By FITSNews || The first reviews of S.C. First Lady Jenny Sanford’s book are starting to come in and guess what … they’re not good.
Not even a little bit.
Scheduled to be released later this week, Sanford’s memoir – entitled Staying True – was blasted as bad writing that serves a less-than-useful purpose, namely the promotion of the First Lady at the expense of her husband, disgraced Gov. Mark Sanford. In fact, one reviewer described the volume as “blood-curdling.”
From Newser:
With hardly a moment for self-reflection, or even self-pity, (Sanford has) written (or had written for her) several hundred pages of very bad prose and very willful insistence that she was right-thinking in every way possible and wronged by a pitiful excuse for a husband and father. Her mission is simple: raise herself at her soon-to-be former husband’s expense. This is, for many women (but few men), a worthy and reasonable effort. Let’s not argue that point. Rather, ask the question: Is this what a book is for? Personal branding and repackaging? And people pay for this?
Ouch.
Staying True is being published by Ballantine Books, an imprint of Random House, Inc.
Here’s the book’s cover (click to enlarge) …
Mrs. Sanford publicly exited the Governor’s Mansion in August (with the couple’s four children) after attempts at reconciling her 20-year marriage proved fruitless. She then filed for divorce in December, which the governor has declined to contest.
Again, for those of you wondering about the whole “TM” thing, here’s a refresher …

You know, maybe it being “all about Jenny all the time” is the reason Mark sought a little female comfort elsewhere. I hope her book is a big flop, which it sounds like it will be.

“Staying True” my hairy asshole, if she wants to have any chance that this book sells more than fifty copies, how about a little truth in advertising. Just call it what it is, “Tales Of An Ice Princess”.
By scmB@g jones February 2, 2010 at 6:01 pm
these reviews will only increase her popularity in SC. she is viewed not as a calculating political animal (since she has run all of mark’s campaigns and twisted arm after arm and ran the pr effort to keep him in office after the scandal broke)-which she obviously is-but as the patron saint of motherhood. the fact that she’s been pimping her story- all the while begging the media to leave her alone-says it all. honestly, what kind of person wants to talk about being cheated on and publicly humiliated? and thats her claim to fame. and she’s obviously milking it for every last second and penny she can get out of it. i thought she was rich. what kind of wealthy person needs publicity and book deals and barbara walters interviews? this isnt the way a classy and dignified person acts, its the way paris hilton would handle it. what’s next? a vh1 reality show where she finds a new husband?
By shiya February 2, 2010 at 6:11 pm
Shame on you FITS. this reviewer was venting about celebrities in general having an easy time publishing books…he sounds like someone who has faced numerous rejects by publishers and is simply jealous.
By Mrs. Ethel Krabitz February 2, 2010 at 6:35 pm
boost her “popularity”? Are ya kidding! She’s not popular with this South Carolinian or too many others that I know of. pimping her brand—-DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH rockheads. Why oh WHY can’t they just go away? really, nobody cares about either one of them or their respective sob stories.
By SnakeMD February 2, 2010 at 6:37 pm
The old cliche: “the pen is mightier than the sword” is why she is doing it. This book is her ultimate payback towards Mark. A SC cracker woman would have stabbed his ass or had somebody else do it. This is the “sophisticated” way to get revenge. She needs it in writing for her redemption. All that bull about forgiveness was a crock on her part. One of the first steps to forgiveness is letting go. She has now etched her problems in stone which will forever be there for her boys to dwell upon. Was the marriage worth saving? I have no idea, but she certainly never gave it a chance. IMHO I think she is a phony. Tragic for all parties concerned.

I have worked with Jenny Sanford on and off for several years. I have never seen the ice princess side of her – and there were opportunities. She spent many more hours downstairs at the Governor’s Mansion meeting and greeting than any of the four previous first ladies. She put her heart and soul into her unpaid job. I will read the book.
By CNSYD February 2, 2010 at 6:56 pm
She found out that her only attraction, her money, was not enough to keep ole Markie on the straight and narrow.
By Willow February 2, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Well I don’t care what any of you I definitely will be buying her book! Good for her.
By newzjunkie February 2, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Hate to say it, but it doesn’t surprise me. Her “ice cold” personality is nothing to write home about – more less a book. How many more months we have to endure this ish?
By scooter February 2, 2010 at 9:12 pm
Will not buy or read the book. Will not watch her on TV. I think the whole thing is unlady-like. Don’t think for a minute she is the “weaker” one in this mess. She made Mark what he is. I have no compassion for her and the way she has acted from the very beginning.
By Liberty For Me February 2, 2010 at 9:36 pm
OHH ,now you people understand why he was lonely…
Was he married to a narcissist?
I really don’t know her,but I do know there are always two sides to a story. But does anyone care anymore?I hope not,I am tired of the whole thing.
By Coward February 2, 2010 at 9:45 pm
Funny….. I have a friend who works(ed) for her and he says she’s a royal nasty bitch. She’s nothing like princess some make her out to be.

Have all of you forgotten so quickly what our illustrious LuvGov did to Jenny and the boys and our state!! Didn’t take long for the “good ole boy” network to kick into gear and that means FitsNews too-don’t anyone believe that crap about the book not selling – maybe all you cheating men out there won’t buy it but we women will – we have a voice now – Good Luck Jenny – you will do fine!! The “good little wife” who has to put up with the baloney and never, ever say a word because it will always we “our fault” has a spokeswoman – BUY THE BOOK and do not listen to Fits News!!
By Mrs. Ethel Krabitz February 3, 2010 at 6:48 am
Annie, Willow, I’m sure you girls will trot right down to the bookstore on Sullivan’s Island to pick up a copy! If you’d just wait, you could get it for 3.00 in the bargain bin in about a month!
By Ynotfirst February 3, 2010 at 7:23 am
it’s horrible because it is fake. it’s a cover up for the real problem
By beentook2 February 3, 2010 at 8:40 am
When the Ice Queen’s book goes in for second printing she should seriously consider borrowing that cute little outfit from Alektra Blue. A few candid shots of the Ice Queen selling cookies on the street corner certainly could not damage South Carolina’s image and would probably boost her book sales.
By sclawboy February 3, 2010 at 9:30 am
Apparently when they married, Mark took “faithful” out of the vows. And now she’s shocked that he was unfaithful. That puts a whole new light on these two.

Hey Mrs. Ethel Krabitz – are you one of the LuvGov’s followers – anything he does is OK – cheating, lying,or are you the “good wife” who doesn’t speak up and will criticize those who do (like Jenny Sanford) and will shrink away in the corner like their lying, cheating husbands would have them do! She has every right as all women do (about time) not to have to turn the other cheek – hope you get the book in the 3.00 bin might do you some good and get some backbone to stick up for the right person! Unless you have been in similar circumstance you would never understand-so don’t try to advise me or Willow what to do!!
By Old Yeller February 3, 2010 at 10:58 am
Willie, your bitterness shows again. No matter the reviews, Jenny will earn more this month than you will make in the next 15 years. Agent, book tour, talk shows….and she’s a woman….Dammit.
I propose an experiment to all (males) so critical of Jenny’s current dealings. I propose that I come over and nail your wife/girlfriend/sister. You have to watch and cannot interfere.
Then, we can blog all day about how you should or should not conduct yourself for the rest of your life.
By countryboy February 3, 2010 at 11:11 am
The people who will buy the book are either manhaters, or those women who buy the Enquirer type rags because their own lives are so dull.
By Force4good February 3, 2010 at 11:37 am
Maria Belen Chapur or any woman with sense should steer clear of Mark Sanford the sociopath. Jenny was probably one of the few grounding influences in his life and because she didn’t always tell him what he wanted to hear he repeatedly went to other women who did. The removal of “faithful” from the wedding vows was alarming but then, he is a con man. As they were in their late twenties, did they have many in their circle who went the “fiery romantic” route who later crashed and burned? Maybe she felt her love would change him. We all delude ourselves. Jenny became a convenient utility. A seemingly vulnerable and needy woman like Maria Belen Chapur who had a deceitful, flawed history of her own with a touch of the exotic which he craved, made them a perfect fit. They have a mutual admiration society going on and find a kind of redemption with each other built on their history of misdeeds. Will they ever see the light or remain in their cocoon of malignancy? It is a shame this fraud aligned himself with family and fiscal conservative values. That message is worthy of emulation although the messenger is not. Pray for their children and thank God they have Jenny!
By shiya February 3, 2010 at 12:21 pm
You dont have to be a manhater to hate what Sanford did to his family. You just have to be a decent person.
By callie February 3, 2010 at 12:31 pm
of course there are two sides… but c’mon, if he didn’t like her or her “frostiness”, then LEAVE! And all strong women are labeled bitches, that is really disgusting, Go Jenny, start your new life with this book.
By Pamela February 3, 2010 at 12:58 pm
As a wife who went thru the intense pain & humiliating divorce w/ 2 small sons I understand why she wanted to write her side of the story, but I feel in the long run she will regret it because of her sons. Their peers will not be so understanding. Time heals all wounds if as someone else said just let it go, having a fulling & meaningful life is the best revenge.
By by annie February 3, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Force4Good – wonderful comment – you hit the nail on the head totally unlike some of the nasty, stupid comments coming in – Jenny and the boys need support – they certainly will not get it from selfish Mark. He uses that nasty little smirk when asked about the book – he can’t fool most people anymore -
By colleen February 3, 2010 at 1:58 pm
Force4Good-what a great comment. So glad to know there are people who can see through Mr. Sanford. Am sure Jenny and the boys will be able to move on.
Poor Ynotfirst, he wants to say something and he can’t so he keeps saying there is real problem. What is he going to do when this is all over and no one will listen to him? By the way are you a college student?
By SC Integrity February 3, 2010 at 2:51 pm
Only took a glimpse here but exactly who was staying true? Mark did after all. According to 20/20…
“South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford recalls how she made the “leap of faith” to marry husband Gov. Mark Sanford even though the groom refused to promise to be faithful, insisting that the clause be removed from their wedding vows.
“It bothered me to some extent, but … we were very young, we were in love,” she said in an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters to air on “20/20″ Friday. “I questioned it, but I got past it … along with other doubts that I had.”
Leap of faith or dumbest scum jump? Really, Jenny? You settled for this? Was it low esteem or were you suicidal? What woman would consider uniting with that trash of a man unless he had super digits to offer? Maybe the same woman who would let he hubby go see his love for a few days in NY for closing.
Your boys should be every bit ashamed of you too, no surprise to most of us here.
And you’re going to tell us to vote for Nikki, keep showing off your keen judgment.
Once again my oldest BFF’s proven right, an 88 year old priest who always says he’d happily have a woman perform any surgery on him or fly him anywhere. But he has no faith in that same brilliant woman to make a simple no brain needed decision in the realm of love. His humble opinion is based on a few decades of dealing with ditzy doozies like this.
A ghastly tranny looking pic btw.
By patricia February 3, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Right Jenny is not super hot. But Gov.Sanford? He is too skinny, lacks any tone or muscles that I can locate, looks like he has skin cancer, is cheap and not in any way good looking.
Jenny is thin and rich !
By Mrs. Ethel Krabitz February 3, 2010 at 5:25 pm
Helloooooooooooooo Annie, i so enjoyed your defensive rant. First and foremost, NOT a fan of Mark Sandford, never have been, and did not vote for him.
Secondly, I am under no circumstance a “good wife” who would stand by her cheating man. Au contraire: UNlike Jenny, I would not wait for a PUBLIC humiliation to kick him to the curb. I sure wouldn’t shrink away to the corner for a few months while he asked me for advice about an affair! AWWWW……….. HELL TO THE NO. The very thought of sticking around thru that is laughable.
and since you have no earthly idea what any of my personal experiences are, and especially since I am not the topic of this thread, I will let my advice stand: wait for the book to hit the bargain bins, honey!!
By shiya February 3, 2010 at 6:30 pm
well, the New York Times has a very positive take on the book..along with more titbits on this douche.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/04/books/04book.html
What Jenny has done is to totally bury MS as a wothwhile being…he comes across as odd, aloof,a cheapskate and a total buffoon. Combined with the revelations on plane use, he has been totally unmasked as a poser. Kudos to Jenny for driving the final nail on the coffin.
By Sick of Sanford February 3, 2010 at 8:18 pm
Patricia, I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of Mark Sanford’s looks. Every time I read or hear anything about him I always picture Montgomery Burns from The Simpsons. I can’t imagine what his sleazy little Argentinean home wrecker could possibly see in him other than a bank account with her name on it. Won’t she be surprised…and not in a good way either.
By by annie February 3, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Great review on Jenny’s book from the New York Times – also the Washington Post book review – don’t know where Fits is getting that it is being panned – also thanks for clearing up your comments, Ethel – we could become friends even though we would agree to disagree!
By SC Integrity February 3, 2010 at 11:50 pm
Am I the only one who’s confused by the definition of true? Sanfraud explicitly told Jenny his intentions when he refused to make a fidelity vow. So ahead of his time, maybe even a Making Big Love Buck wannabe… a maverick plotting to legalize polygamy when he becomes king. In the meantime he hooked a willing winner to his wagon.
“We were very young, we were in love, etc…” Most upper 20 something females in love in the late 80s were mature enough to aim higher. If it resulted in divorce at least they could say they thought it was right and holy in the beginning. They didn’t try to transform dung to daisies. They believed they had daisies and maybe it deteriorated to dung.
How the hell will she ever explain her no expectations to the boys?
SANFRAUD was TRUE. Jenny’s the one who tried the change the game and wasn’t true to what she promised to accept.
By ina February 4, 2010 at 6:29 pm
MARK SANFORD, an individual who continually lie to the people of S.C., appears to be suffering from mental illness of some sorts.
Many residents are not pleased that legislators held a posturing kangaroo court, and did NOT impeach Mark Sanford… those individuals who voted NO.. shall be remembered at election time.
By shiya February 5, 2010 at 12:11 pm
Time magazine gives the book raving reviews..HA!
