By FITSNews || We don’t particularly care about the SCGOP’s controversial new voter ID bill, but a lot of people who read our website do … and those people made some serious noise Thursday after we exposed the failure of South Carolina’s so-called “majority party” to get this bill through its own GOP-controlled Senate.
In fact, our story Wednesday evening about the apparent death of the voter ID bill sparked an uproar in Palmetto Republican circles, prompting some serious horse-trading in the S.C. Senate to get the legislation revived … and ultimately passed.
Democrats did earn some major concessions in the process, however, a direct result of Republicans not being able to rely on the votes of four Senators to break a filibuster.
For starters, registered voters who do not currently possess a valid S.C. drivers’ license or photo identification card will be contacted by the State Election Commission in an effort to notify them of the new requirement. In fact, taxpayers will be on the hook for new “photo voter ID’s” for people who are not currently in possession of another valid photo ID.
Also, the new photo ID requirement will not … we repeat, will not … go into effect until January of 2012.
That’s a big deal, obviously, as it gives Democrats (a.k.a. ACORN) time to print up a bunch of fake IDs before the next statewide election. Nonetheless, SCGOP Chairwoman Karen Floyd – who had been dodging our inquiries on this subject all day – was jubilant.
“A secure and accessible voting process is the hallmark of our democracy, and this bill is one key to making that voting process as secure as possible,” Floyd said in a statement. “This bill is incredibly important to the state Party and our Executive Committee, and we are proud that our Republican majority in the Senate made it a priority so early in the session.”
Blah blah blah.
Needless to say, our founding editor had a different take on the situation.
“The Senate Republican Caucus in South Carolina has bowed down to the power of FITSNews.com,” Sic Willie said in his own statement. “They have bowed down to my ‘bow wow’ – or at least the ‘bow wow’ of the thousands of devoted South Carolina political activists who read this website.”
Sic then raised his arms in the air, swung them like he “just don’t care” and led his people as follows.
“Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay bow wow yippie yo yippee yay …”
Oh yeah … wait till you see us rise up on an issue we actually do care about …

Congratulations, Mr. Folks! Have you considered a dark horse run for governor?

sic(k) willie would be more impressive if he would come clean about his old claim that a Midlands’ elected official has a Strom problem. That’s always going to be the standard of sic(k) willie’s credibility.
Actually, his lack of credibility.

A bill passed by idiots full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
To quote the Gentleman from Richland, “this will never pass Constitutional mustard.”
The federal courts will strike it down before it ever takes effect. If we weren’t a Voting Rights Act state, it might fly. But, we is and it ain’t.

It might have been from your article, but I told some people about it after I found out, and I am “kind of a big deal” so it was probably the fact that I told some people I knew that meant it got passed, or because I named my dog veto – at least these theories are just as likely as your for the reason the vote happened. Maybe your first article was just misinformed bullshit too though???

Why is LUKE RANKIN such a sell out. He never records a vote in the journal and probably has the worst attendance next to Clementa Pinkney. He is the Bastard child of the Republican party and still votes like a Democrat. This is no way to mount a campaign for the future 7th Congressional District.

No, no, no. Folks for Lt. Governor. Then, as in Stripes, the Fits Girls could wrestle Ard consultant “Spanky” for the nomination. Spanky’s bonnies would end up blue indeed.

Somewhere, clearly, someone is dispensing “up the butt” sticks. While real and especially sustained real arrogance can be pretty obnoxious, playful arrogance is, well just playful. Even serial offenses. It’s not as if the headline and photo don’t label it as plainly as day. I have noticed here and elsewhere on the Net that playful posing, satire, whimsy, hyperbole, allusion and the like often go unrecognized no matter how obvious. When a site or poster revels in being quirky, read and enjoy (or grimace) in that light. Imagine having read Strom’s Daughter’s posts (I still miss her) literally and at face value, as if they were official press releases from a stogy Secretary of States office.

Jake “Porky” Knottzi is going down at the next election. We’ve already got a candidate lined up to replace him who will take the primary in a landslide.

Will is the accidental victor. He does not understand the legislative process, prematurely declares a bill dead, then when the bill passes, which it was destined to do, he declares that he made it happen.

Masterfully done, Sire.

Before you even posted your story, the so called RINOS you were kicking were already talking about why they were holding it up and that they would vote for it with a change they wanted. They got the change and voted for it. You give yourself way too much credit.

People, people, people … we keeed, we keeed, we keeed.
Our taunting of the S.C. Senate is for entertainment purposes only.
Here’s the real story on this legislation:

I was thinking for a minute that the statue in the photo was Ben Tillman, but of course it’s not. (who is it, by the way?) Nevertheless, I’m sure “Ole Pitchfork” must be smiling from the grave and nodding his approval. Over a century ago he was able to discourage and suppress Black voting in the state through the use of literacy tests, grandfather clauses, eight-box laws, and the poll tax. Now modern-day like-thinkers of Tillman in the Republican Party are using the Voter-ID bill to do the same. I’m sure Democrat Ben would have enjoyed the irony.
By political hack January 29, 2010 at 11:08 am
Yeah because everyone in this state is a dirty racist, thats why we need laws mandating voter ID cards, right Gillon? Everyone also knows that every poverty stricken minority or special interest group, along with the black belt plantation trust fund elites vote Democrat because they are ignorant, or love the feeling of racial superiority and keeping those that put them in office in perpetual poverty. Fight fire with fire, if one party is going to commit voter fraud, might as well have a law to make the fraud tougher to commit. This isn’t the mortgage industry, where they wrote laws that ultimately PROMOTED fraud, and now we are paying the banks for it. The race issue is overrated anyway, it’s all about money, and how much debt we are in, and who will step up to represent the ponzi scheme next to keep it going until it is finally exposed. The wheels are close to coming off….
By OhNoNotAgain January 29, 2010 at 11:54 am
BIN, how about chastising SIC for the “strom problem” issue once a week and in a relavent thread?
Frankly, I’m sick of you posting it.
By Gillon January 29, 2010 at 12:21 pm
“political hack”–It is very hard to distinguish between your sarcasm and your ignorance. Your point is…?
By Soft Sigh From Hell January 29, 2010 at 9:23 pm
No, not Pitchfork Ben of course. I at first thought maybe Enver Hoxha, as the bright dress and the shawl looked a bit Albanian. But even better, Kim Il Sung.

Dear Ms. Soft Sigh:
It is so rare that we find such a learned editor to grace these posts. Such classical rhetoric that you mention will hardly be recognized here. Dare not use metaphor, simile, or personification here because the USC Law School does not teach the four operations of quadripartita ratio. I once posted a response using a mixed metaphor with a little circumlocution thrown in and I was lambasted as a “crack whore” along with a few other epithets. I was wondering just how soft your sigh is when you type. Does your dove-white breast heave?
Kind personal regards,
SnakeMD
