The Freezing And Warming Of Barack Obama

Plus, we’ve got nothing against “The Politician Formerly Known As ‘The One’” (at least not personally), we just can’t stand his bankrupt ideas, which in case you haven’t noticed are bankrupting this country.

No, we’re actually referring to a different sort of freeze … namely the so-called “spending freeze” that Obama has proposed in his latest knee-jerk reaction to the outright revulsion America is expressing toward his socialist agenda.

First of all, Obama’s “freeze” on discretionary spending isn’t a spending cut at all.  Nor is it even a deficit reduction (despite what the Obamaphiles in the Politbureau Budget Office are saying). It’s transparent desperation.  It’s doing the absolute least possible in an effort to fool people into thinking you take their concerns seriously.

Vintage Obama, in other words.

In fact, just three months into his administration, Obama played this same card in an effort to “get right” with centrist voters who were concerned about the country’s soaring spending, deficit and debt.

Anyway, Obama’s “freeze” applies to less than one-sixth of the federal budget.  From the Wall Street Journal:

The freeze would affect $447 billion in spending, or 17% of the total federal budget, and would likely be overtaken by growth in the untouched areas of discretionary spending. It’s designed to save $250 billion over the coming decade, compared with what would have been spent had this area been allowed to rise along with inflation.

Untouched by the freeze? Soaring entitlement programs like Social Security or Medicaid. Oh, and “economic development” programs. And of course the hundreds of billions we shell out in interest each year on our skyrocketing debt.

Needless to say, the public is hyperskeptical of Obama’s intentions.  Seriously … when even the Communist News Network runs a story speculating about whether the move is “prudence or posturing,” you know that your trustworthiness is on the wane.

Of course, one of the little ironies in this “freeze” is that much of its so-called “deficit reduction” would be eaten up if Obama gets his way on “climate change” payments made to third world countries in an effort to combat … wait for it … global warming.

That means an already nonexistent “freeze” would be eaten up by payments made to combat nonexistent “warming.”

Sheesh … what the hell happened to this country?

In fact, a nice cryogenic freeze (for us) is sounding more appealing by the minute.
