By FITSNews || Rep. John Spratt … welcome to the next nine months of your life.
South Carolina’s vulnerable Fifth District Congressman is the subject of a new television ad blasting his fiscally irresponsible budget, which the ad says includes a “trillion dollar deficit.”
Funny … we thought the deficit spending in Spratt’s budget was much higher than that. Or maybe that’s this year’s budget …
Anyway, the ad also says that “Spratt is the architect of legislation that Democrats may use to ram through a government takeover of health care,” which isn’t surprising seeing as Spratt voted for Obamacare last year – as well as the failed $787 billion bureaucratic bailout and the controversial “cap and trade” energy tax increase.
On top of all that, Spratt is also leading the fight to raise the U.S. debt limit to a ridiculous $14 trillion, and he voted last month for another $150 billion bailout of state bureaucracies.
Here’s a look at the clip, which is paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC):
Meanwhile, Spratt’s opponent – State Senator Mick Mulvaney – is mounting a ferocious challenge against the fourteen-term incumbent – sparking ongoing rumors that Spratt might still decide to step down.
Spratt has denied those rumors, and filed paperwork to run for a fifteenth term a little over a month ago.
Could he be changing his mind?
Stay tuned …

Wishful thinking, fitkids. Spratt is going to beat that loser like a mule.
By OhNoNotAgain January 26, 2010 at 12:23 pm
Still trumpeting the “Might retire” tune?
Wishful thinking. Try what they did in Peter Pan. Clap real hard and say you believe in fairies and you might bring Tink back to life and make Spratt not run.
I hate this budget myself, but this “ferocious” challenge by Mulvaney is interesting.
Spratt has gone off his safe reservation a little, but he can counter these charges, because he has helped turn a former deficit into a surplus at the end of the Clinton Administration.
And Mick Mulvaney has done …???
We know what he says he’s for, but what has he ever done to accomplish those goals. Gosh. Scratching my head?
What has he done? Anybody? Other than get elected and start planing the jump to the next office up the chain, I mean?
Give us an accomplishment, Will. Anybody? Just one? Please? Pretty prease with sugar on top?

Pelosi wishes she looked that good. Kinda strange that the RNC would use a photo that apparently is years old or air brushed….
By Billy Bob January 26, 2010 at 1:05 pm
The worst thing about the Democrats is … Nancy Pelosi, well, if you don’t count Harry Reid. But it will take more than that to defeat Jack Spratt who brings home the fat (pork)
By BadNewsMulvaney January 26, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Mulvaney is mounting a “ferocious” challenge my ass. I mean this guy doesn’t even realize that the interpretation of the 10th Amendment was settled a little over a hundred and fifty years ago in a little time period known as the Civil War, which I may add he hails from the winning area (Up North). Spratt is going to win and the NRCC should use this money to challenge races they really can win. The good news is that come November, Mulvaney and Sic Willie will have plenty of time to continue there love affair with one another, since he sure as hell wont be heading to Washington.
By 5th Indy January 26, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Wow….whipped dogs yelp, don’t they?
I read Mulvaney had 130 at an event in Lancaster — not York — this weekend. People were mostly from Darlington, Chsterfield, Kershaw and Sumter.
I also read that Spratt inserted language in the budget that allows “reconciliation” on the health care bill. Don’t like the shenanigans in DC? Look to your own congressman.
Sounds like John is in trouble.
By suraj January 26, 2010 at 1:30 pm
All these Spratt supporters probably never would’ve guessed that Teddy Kennedy’s seat would go to a Republican…
By Butler Derrick January 26, 2010 at 1:37 pm
John Spratt is one of the smartist and decent to ever hold office in SC. Any district would be fortunate to have him represent them. He will come though this election with flying colors.
By Anonymous January 26, 2010 at 1:53 pm
Butler:
He has sold your grandchildren into debt slavery. He voted to put you in jail if you don’t buy health care. He gave Wall Street billions while tens of thousands lost textile jobs back home.
Smart and decent? Please, wake up.
By suraj January 26, 2010 at 2:02 pm
Don’t forget that it’s the Democrats who want to throw you in JAIL if you don’t buy health insurance.
Meanwhile, terrorists are tried in NYC at a tune of $400-$600 million in taxpayer’s monies to pay for security.
Liberalism is indeed a mental disorder…
By OhNoNotAgain January 26, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Speaking of mental disorders, suraj. Since you said, on January 26th, 2010 at 1:30 pm, “All these Spratt supporters probably never would’ve guessed that Teddy Kennedy’s seat would go to a Republican…”
I admit I didn’t think Brown could win.
But do you honestly think Brown would have lost had he gone against Teddy Kennedy? That’s the BIG difference in the two races. Mulvaney wants to paint himself as another Brown? Fine?
What’s your honest assessment of what Brown would have done against Kennedy.
He wouldn’t even have filed to run, and he’d be selling his daughters on eBay instead of pimping them ot a campaign event.
Mulvaney isn’t running to succeed Spratt against a weak opponent who probalby would say she likes not Clemson, not Carolina, but is a big Duke or Tar Heel sports fan.
Get it? The races are barely comparable because the issue is, the incumbent liberal in one still has a pulse.
By countryboy January 26, 2010 at 3:15 pm
I will say this, one more time. Without divulging my real name on here, I was one of Spratt’s strongest supporters from the day he announced until just recently. He would absolutely be shocked to know I no longer support him and don’t give a rat’s ass who runs against him, that person has my vote. Now I am just one voter (plus those I might influence here in Chesterfield County) but I have a feeling I am not the only long time strong supporter to have given up on John. And yes, John was a fine and decent man when he went to Washington. Unfortunately the desire to hold on to power at any cost has ruined him. The old saying “he will win unless he is caught in bed with a dead woman or live boy”… is where I’m at with my vote. Absent the dead woman or live boy, Mulvaney gets my vote.
By really???? January 26, 2010 at 3:25 pm
OhNoNotAgain….maybe you don’t get it. Independents are fed up with the Dems and with this healthcare nonsense. I think Kennedy could have lost, unless you really think it was a vote for Brown and not a vote against healthcare.
By suraj January 26, 2010 at 3:37 pm
ONNA,
I honestly have never met Mulvaney or Spratt. However, if people in the Blue state of Massachusetts are willing to vote in a moderate Republican, I suspect that Mulvaney should be able to make a case that Spratt supports Obama’s statist, “progressive” agenda.
As evidenced by Spratt’s support of Obamacare, Spratt is no longer a “Blue Dog”, independently-thinking moderate, but unwaveringly supports the increasingly socialistic and increasingly unpopular Obama agenda.
By BadNewsMulvaney January 26, 2010 at 4:41 pm
Ya’ll go ahead a vote for Mulvaney. See how your local service (aka. rural water, sewer, hospitals, national guard units, Shaw Air Force base, roads) work out. The thing with big bad seniority in a democratic republic is that it works. You might bitch about Spratt not doing everything you want him to do, but if you prefer seeing your tax dollars being enjoyed in New York, California, or Nebraska for that matter, vote ol’ scalwag in.
P.S. 5th Indy. I hope he had 130 in Lancaster, he represents the damn place.
By countryboy January 26, 2010 at 6:00 pm
BadNews- That “pork” thinking (what can I do to get re-elected) is what is wrong with Congress and why we need term limits. The first time Spratt ran for Congress he said one of the most important things Congress needed to do was get rid of the deficit and balance the budget (which I think was something like 250 billion then). Well Mr. Balanced budget ain’t representing us now, that’s for sure.
By Over My Dead Body January 26, 2010 at 6:42 pm
Not that any of you ignorant teabag fucks know how to cite legislative history – but please, show me where in his bill it authorizes people to punish through imprisonment the crime of not buying health care.
Also, if you would, please tell me whether you think those who can pay but aren’t insured shouldn’t pay for medical care considering that like fire trucks, they get medical care in emergencies without wondering: whats your fucking co-pay.
The real crime is I have to support some fundies 5th baby cause its what god would want.
By cmitchz January 26, 2010 at 8:20 pm
Wow, the sodomizers (that’s the left-wing equivalent of a teabagger) sure are mad about Spratt getting challenged, aren’t they?
You sodomizers ought to know by now that, despite all the lying your socialist overlords have to do to get into office in this country, once people see them for what they are, they’re going to be out of a job.
There simply aren’t enough welfare cases or pretentious ‘educated’ sodomizers in the district to drag Spratt to a victory now, and the only reason he’s skated by all of these years was the lack of a decent GOP farm system in the area.
Looks like y’all are out of luck.
By BadNewsMulvaney January 26, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Countryboy,
I agree with you, but I happen to be from up near Chesterfield County. You drink Alligator Rural Water Company. Guess who gets the funds to support most of Alligator Rural Water, which just happens to supply pretty much all the water for Chesterfield, the same man that your running down. Do you think Mr. Mulvaney will be able to get that help for our rural district. HELL NO. In the 80′s, Coco-Cola came out with New Coke, which was suppose to be the greatest thing ever. Well, it wasnt worth a shit. I compare Mr. Mulvaney to new Coke. He sure can say NO, but he has no alternatives except to reassert the 10th Amendment. WOW, what a contribution. NOT! I’ll stick with Spratt.
P.S. Next time you drink a class of that clean Chesterfield water, thank that mean ol’ man John Spratt
By SC Moderate January 26, 2010 at 9:39 pm
Scott Brown winning has virtually nothing to with a “Republican” movement. If Scott Brown ran in a primary in SC, he would be run out of town for being pro-Choice, among other stances.
Mass is one of (if not the) only states in the US that already has universal healthcare (or 98% covered)- which was implemented under Mitt Romney…. this is the reason they have a different view on the healthcare bill.
Brown won because 1) Mass healthcare in place, 2)he ran a better campaign, and 3)some long engrained misgivings with Sen Kennedy’ past (even though they continued to elect him because of what he could do for their state).
It is intellectually dishonest to extrapolate much more from the Mass election.
And although I don’t feel the Dems have been perfect in Washington either… The amount of minipulation of facts being spouted by many right wing talking head, regarding Obama policies relating to the economy are laughable.
By jan blotchsky January 26, 2010 at 11:20 pm
SC Moderate- I suspect that Scott Brown’s victory was as much a declamation against Team Obama’s smash-mouth/Chicago-style gutter politics as it was also a result of a lousy campaign effort by an uninspiring Democrat candidate.
By countryboy January 27, 2010 at 7:46 am
BadNews- You are missing my point. I am voting against Spratt, not necessarily FOR Mulvaney. When Pelosi threatened to take away Spratt’s chairmanship if he didn’t vote for Obamacare and Spratt didn’t have the integrity to vote the way he knew this district wanted him to vote, he lost my support for good.
By Transplant January 27, 2010 at 2:20 pm
Incumbent = no vote.
