Jimmy Merrill Forgot To Consult “The List”

Former S.C. House Majority Leader Jimmy Merrill confirmed to the Charleston (S.C.) Post and Courier on Wednesday that he will indeed not seek the U.S. First Congressional District seat that’s being vacated by U.S. Rep. Henry Brown (RINO -Charleston).

In explaining his rationale for passing on a race that many presumed he would be favored to win, Merrill pulled out the tired old “fish pond” cliché … except with a minty, minnowy twist:

I also don’t know I’d care for going from serving as a medium to larger fish in a small pond to a very small minnow in a big pond.

Wait … a “medium to larger fish?” Really?

Obviously, Merrill neglected to take note of his ranking on the recently-released “Palmetto Power 100” list. Or more to the point, he neglected to take note of the fact that he wasn’t ranked on what everybody at the State House simply (and reverently) refers to as “THE List.”

Seriously, there are House pages who currently have more power than Merrill … particularly if they’re dressed inappropriately. Of course,  House pages dressing inappropriately is something Merrill obviously knows all about (ba doom … hey, where’s our “ching?”) …

Anyway … maybe that’s why he didn’t run!

UPDATE: Stay tuned to FITS as we’ll have a special report later today on why S.C. Senator Chip Campsen backed down from his original decision to run for Congress.

Hope not; after reading excerpts from Game Change, I wonder if there is more than a little St. Elizabeth Edwards in Jenny?
