Gresham Barrett’s “Deportation Nation”

spelling with gresham barrett

Let it be said from the outset of this article that we oppose the shuttering of Guantanamo Bay, that we could give a rat’s rear end if enemy combatants are detained indefinitely and we unilaterally oppose to extension of American justice to America-hating murderers.

Seriously … when did we decide that we were going to start treating these animals like human beings?

In fact, we’ve always believed that the best deterrent to terrorism was to strap foreign nationals convicted in military tribunals to American-made weapons of mass destruction – and then drop those weapons on their hometowns.

That should get foreign governments cracking down on their “Jihad problems.”

Anyway, as nutty (perfectly sensible?) as our foreign policy views may be, U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett (who seems to think fear-mongering has something to do with running for governor in South Carolina) is taking crazy to a “whole new level.”

From Raw Story:

The Stop Terrorists Entry Program Act (STEP) was first introduced by Rep. J. Gresham Barrett (R-SC) in 2003 [PDF link]. The updated version, he explained in a media advisory, would bar citizens of Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Yemen and Syria from entry into the United States. It would further require citizens of those nations who are legally visiting or residing in the United States to be deported within 60 days.

And he’s doing this as a response to an American who killed 12 other soldiers at Fort Hood, and a Nigerian who allegedly attempted to blow up an airplane on Christmas Day …

“Twice in the past two months, radical Islamic terrorists have attacked our nation and the Administration has failed to adapt its national security and immigration policies to counter the renewed resolve of those who seek to harm our citizens,” Barrett opined.

Good Lord.

At least the rest of the country is finally figuring out what a worthless windbag this sanctimonious, sensationalistic redneck boob is …

Look, this highlights just one of the many problems with our government’s ridiculously nonsensical “War on Terror(ism),” which is looking like it’s going to be even less successful than its “War on Drugs,” “War on Poverty” or even its “War on the Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations.”

Kicking people out of the country who have done nothing wrong, who – in fact – might even be helping create jobs or bringing investment into this country is stupid.  Obviously, if someone is here illegally, fine … deport them. Hell, deport them six ways from Sunday. But that’s not what Barrett is saying.

He’s trying to propose some over-the-top, knee-jerk legislation simply to get press clips, not to actually solve a problem, which is one of the major reasons we have such a large, totally ineffective government in the first place.

Necessity may be the mother of invention (thanks, Plato), but in America – crisis is the mother of stupidity.

Maybe we should think about strapping our politicians onto those weapons of mass destruction along with the convicted terrorists …

Nah, let’s just deport them …

UPDATE: Barrett’s campaign tells FITS that the Raw Story report on the Congressman’s proposal is inaccurate and that the legislation (which will be formally filed on Wednesday) does not provide for the deportation anyone. Barrett’s campaign also tells FITS that his legislation includes safeguards for “people seeking religious or political asylum.”

“Seriously … when did we decide that we were going to start treating these animals like human beings?”

I dunno. When I decided we were better than them. When I decided we didn’t need to get in their moral sewer. When I decided that for every decision we make in response to our fear, to make us a little bit safer but give up a little bit more of our freedom, that that is when they win.

I’m not saying don’t fight the war as hard as possible. But fight the war the way civilized nations have agreed to fight it, for as long as it takes.

As a brown bastard myself I kind of find this offensive and retarded. What’s next does he want to eject homosexuals into outerspace. Besides last I remembered, most of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, but Barrett makes no mention of them. As for some reason most of the politicians prefer to lick the taint of the Saudis in order to stay in their favor. But then again kudos to Barrett to show up and propose something since he can’t make it to vote that often. And WTF have the Cubans done to us? Can we please drop this whole embargo shit, I want some cigars dammit.

“… and the Administration has failed to adapt its national security and immigration policies…”

In other words, Barrett thinks the Bush policies failed and need to be changed?

re: weapons of mass destruction…I think more and more about Jimmy Carter’s neutron bombs as an excellent solution for a variety of problems.

If you’re courting tea-bagger votes, you have to prove that you’re a nut, too.

All right!! If he made Olberman’s worst person list, I’m FOR him.
Gresham Barrett has been a good, conservative Congressman. I will proudly vote for him for governor!
