It’s still ridiculously friggin’ cold across the United States as a record cold snap refuses to relinquish its grip on the nation for the second consecutive week.
And while the cold snap is good because the global warming crowd is taking it a little further up the yin-yang with each additional day of freezing temperatures, it’s bad because energy costs are increasing (although not as much as President Barack Obama wants them to increase).
That means people who are already struggling to make ends meet are facing additional costs they can’t afford – and unlike government they can’t keep borrowing when the money runs out.
Anyway, in Miami temperatures plunged to 35 degrees on Saturday night – a record low. In Orlando, there were snow flurries.
In Columbia, S.C. it was 19 degrees Monday morning, although temperatures are expected to warm up a bit this week.

Old Al Gore will soon be charging a hundred grand a speech to warn us about the coming ice age if this keeps up.

Explain to me again how because it is so hot its cold??….

I drove through Enoree this morning, the result of the really excellent detour because DOT closed I-385. The thermometer on the truck dropped to 13 degrees in that area. I think global cooling is in the future. I am old enough to remember the 1970s when the scientists were predicting the coming of the next ice age.

Its not the cold….its the humidity

The “It’s Cold Here So Global Warming is bunk” argument is a statement to the inadequacies of primary school education.
I just checked some temps.
It’s 48.5 degrees in Columbia according to WeatherUnderground as I write this.
Not freezing, but not warm. Global warming must be wrong, right?
Well, another temperature to consider is the 25 degrees in Darwin, Australia. Or the 32.5 in Melbourne.
Frigid, right?
Nope. They’re on the Celsius scale.
It’s a sunny 77 degrees in Darwin. It’s actually 90.5 in Melbourne.
What? How can this be?
If you had gotten a basic education, you’d realize that it is cold here now not because Global Warming is Wrong. it is cold here NOW because it is WINTER. The earth is tilted so that the SOUTHERN hemisphere is incrementally closer to the sun than the northern hemisphere.
It’s SUMMER there. WINTER here.
I don’t know if I buy the science and the theory.I have no idea how you test for it. It’s probably just a hypothesis according to what I learned. A premise.
But you can’t shoot it down with something so moronic as, “it’s cold.”
It’s winter. It’s supposed to be cold.

Remember, these will be Celsius –

It was 9 degrees crossing Lynches River this morning near Bethune.

OhNoNotAgain…I dont think our knuckles are draging that bad, even though you seem to think you are smarter than everyone else.I believe the point is the fact its a colder winter than it has been for tweenty years and if our overall temps did trend a 1 degree upswing in hundred years.Who gives a shit.To take from one of your heros “its the economy stupid”…a tax on energy does nothing but push forward the biggest scam in history.

The statists should schedule hearings on cap -and -trade in late July.
That way it will pass, especially if Obama has his people cut off the air conditioner at the Capitol building.

I hear you. USC beat the #4 team in the country this year. Must mean we’re an historic powerhouse. Same logic.
Let me ask you people, do you still believe the sun revolves around the earth?
By T4 January 11, 2010 at 10:43 pm
Hey Liberty, a one-degree shift is still a shift.
By Sam January 12, 2010 at 10:33 am
Ohnonotagain and T4, points taken. Meanwhile, it’s winter and who’s that lovely girl?
By OhNoNotAgain January 12, 2010 at 11:41 am
Liberty For Me, he ain’t one of my heroes. I don’t believe Cap & Trade is good policy, because it will hurt the economy and won’t achieve it’s desired effect.
Just because I think the argument used by the knee jerk jerks against global warming doesn’t mean I’m for Kyoto or Copenhagen or any such.
I don’t think I’m smarter than everyone else, but I do think it’s apparent that my parochial school education touched on something the knee jerks missed out on.
The proper name, btw, for the hypothesis is climate change.
Since we have the opposite weather trends of the other hemisphere, if it is the coldest winter here in record, what, do you think might be happening on the other side of the globe? I haven’t got a clue, but if they are having heat waves parallel to our cold spell, it’s freaking hot down there.

On a sports board, got a guy who is a USC fan. He’s from Australia.
Wrote this post the other day.
“Always at this time of the year when I see complaints about how cold it has been and I am always dealing with the opposite. The night before was the highest minimum on record, with the temperature at midnight a ridiculous 98.6 degrees (37 celsius). It had been up to 113 degrees that day and fortunately didn’t get to 117 degrees which last year caused what is now known as ‘Black Saturday’ when nearly 200 people were killed by wilfires near where I live. Bring on the cool weather!!”
98.6 AT NIGHT.
Get it?
