Rusty DePass, Meet Alanis Morisette

What members of South Carolina’s rotting political kleptocracy do after we ruin their careers (always righteously, we might add) is completely up to them.

Some take it in stride, others flee to Canada. It’s a personal thing, we suppose.

For example, after our careers were ruined (the first time) we drank a lot.  And wore hoodies.  The second time our careers were ruined we developed an odd (and enduring) fetish for the Wu Tang Clan.

Then there’s former Republican has-been (you read that right) Rusty DePass, whose best days were behind him long before he took to the Facebook page of S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster’s Chief of Staff last summer to compare U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama to a gorilla that briefly escaped from its cage at a local zoo.

How has Rusty handled the public evisceration we administered to him (and milked for every story it was worth)?

Not well …

Accordingly, we’ve taken steps wherever possible to keep Rusty in the news – even though he clearly no longer belongs there.

Familiar with our love for the occasional Rusty “non-news” item, a source  recently forwarded us a pic of one of Rusty’s new commercial real estate signs – which just so happened to be parked right out in front of the old (non-LEED certified) S.C. Republican Party headquarters.

Yup … that’s right – a disgraced GOP operative is trying to sell the former headquarters of an utterly worthless political party in the worst real estate environment in history.

Oh well, Rusty does have a spiffy website for his new company … so there’s that …

Rusty is not a bad guy, Sic. He cracked a stupid joke and his punishment has far exceeded the crime. I saw him during the holidays and he is doing great. He remains remorseful. I am hopeful others will see and learn – from you as well as from him – that people can move on after a mistake and contribute to South Carolina in a positive way.

Rusty’s punishment did exceed the crime, we grant you that.
