In what could become some heady competition for Palmetto State media outlets (including FITS), the S.C. Policy Council is on the verge of launching a new “citizen reporter” website – perhaps as soon as next week.
Reportedly dubbed The Nerve (or something to do with nerves), the top secret project will provide original content from Policy Council writers as well as contributing writers from all corners of the state, sources tell FITS.
The conservative think tank has apparently been gearing up for the project for some time, which may explain its decision to hire two seasoned investigative journalists back in September.
So … is there a niche for The Nerve?
Certainly.
South Carolina has shown a healthy appetite for new media, particularly when it isn’t afraid to challenge all the government bureaucracies that the old media have permitted to run wild (with your money) for all these years. And that’s no doubt what The Nerve will do.
We’re still not entirely sure what form this new entity will take, but we look forward to bringing you more information (and hopefully a launch date) soon …
And, of course, we welcome the new competitors on the block to our little corner of the “marketplace of ideas.”

Hired two seasoned journalists, yet let a seasoned journalist/PR person walk OUT THE DOOR. Go ask Landess why their Director of Communications walked out the door.
I’m sure you’ll find where you have an issue between Principal Conservatism and “Not Harming The Governor’s Image Any Further.”
The only “nerve” here is that people would have the “nerve” to buy into the crap that is sold as “conservatism” by this group.

The old school Council, staffed with actual researchers and focused on long term policy trends and analysis, is MUCH more effective, needed, and unique. Too bad those days have passed.

SSHM — you should have written “Principle,” not “Principal.” Stupid should indeed hurt more.
