Republican Jill Kelso – who narrowly missed defeating democratic incumbent Rep. Vida Miller in 2008 – will not run against the seven-term incumbent in 2010.
Kelso said that “changes in (her) family and business interests” drove her decision not to seek the GOP nomination for S.C. House District 108 – which stretches for miles along the S.C. coast between the heavily populated Charleston and Myrtle Beach metropolitan areas.
As the GOP nominee in 2008, Kelso earned 47% of the vote against Miller.
“This decision in no way affects my active role in politics,” Kelso said in a statement. “I will continue to serve on the Executive Committees of the Georgetown County and South Carolina Republican Parties, and I will work to support the nominee of our Party against Miller and her liberal voting record. I will also continue to serve on the committee that oversees the evaluator of the State’s First Steps program.”
Since we don’t spend a lot of time focused on the “Fightin’ 108th” (which is odd considering we’ve spent several summers vacationing there) we were unaware of two key points …
First, Vida Miller’s husband, James Miller, died over the Christmas holidays – so obviously our condolences go out to her.
Second, there is already a Republican running for this seat. His name is Kevin Ryan, and you can read more about him by clicking here …

I hate to be the one to mention it, but it’s worth noting that Vida’s husband recently passed away from pancreatic cancer. Now the only person running against Vida is a 22 or 23 year-old Sanford intern.

Jill, we hardly knew you… However, Howie Rich and friends did. Bye Bye.

I heard Ron Charlton was looking at the race as well.
