Alabama Has Its Priorities Straight
An Alabama attorney has asked a circuit court judge in Bessemer for a continuance of his client’s trial based on “certain monumental events,” namely Alabama’s appearance in the BCS national championship game in Pasadena, California.
“Currently, one of the two great teams in this State are playing for a national championship and has enjoyed an undefeated season and clinched the SEC Title Game,” reads the motion from attorney Jon B. Terry to circuit court judge Dan C. King.
“Most of the attorneys representing all of the named Defendants have tickets and reservations to be in Pasadena on the 6th day of January, 2010, which date would conflict with the trial date as travel times and schedules for the game overlap the trial as currently set,” the request continues.
Ordinarily, things like this get worked out between lawyers, but in this case, there’s a problem …
“Attempts to resolve this conflict directly with the Plaintiffs (have) been unfruitful as the reply has been that they are for the other great team in this State who did not make the playoffs.”
Ruh-roh!
Terry’s closing point to the judge?
“ROLL TIDE!!” (seriously, click the link below) …
Oh, in case anybody cares, Bessemer is home to Bo Jackson, a famous two-sport star (and Heisman Trophy winner) who achieved legend status at Auburn, a.k.a. “the other great team” to which Terry’s motion refers.
The judge is also … wait for it … an Auburn graduate.
Amazingly, the motion was granted …

“did not make the playoffs”
There’s a playoff? I guess Alabama fans really are delusional.

I live in Helena, AL a town over from Bessemer. Judge Dan King, of course would grant the continuance, because he is going to the game as well. Two of my friends are riding with Judge King on a chartered bus from Vegas to the game and back. I am not sure but I think that he is the one that chartered the bus. Not a big fan of the man and he is switching to the democratic party next election, hopefully that will be the end of his stint in Bessemer.
