Are They At Least Taking The Cheerleaders?

Boston College isn’t taking its 180-piece marching band (a.k.a. the “Screaming Eagles) to the team’s Emerald Bowl showdown with Southern Cal on December 26 in an effort to save some money.

They’re “Bowling on a Budget,” if you will.

Many colleges are skimping (at least a little bit) on their traditional bowl expenditures in an effort to reap a bigger reward from the payoffs they get from the games.

In recent years, colleges have wound up blowing nearly every penny of the revenue they make from the games on travel and lodging expenses – sort of like the University of South Carolina did a year ago.

Oh well … at least BC won’t have to worry about the “Screaming Eagles” jinxing the Eagles on the field – like Michigan’s marching band did three years ago to the Wolverines.

Michigan isn’t going bowling again this year, part of a continuation of the “Stairway to Heaven” curse.

Again FITS you don’t understand how conferences split bowl money. It does not all go to the team who is playing. After expenses it is pooled and split among ALL the schools in the conference. So Duke, for example, is not going to a bowl but will get a check anyway.

Dusty, as I understand the term, they can’t be carpetbaggers unless they move to the South and start trying to tell us natives what to do and how to do it. Thus far they seem to have stayed in the Beantown area. So it would seem the term does not apply. Have you ever noticed that there is no inverse term? That is a Southerner who goes North and tries to tell them how to live, etc.
