Where I live, December temperatures were below normal for the month, so even taking into account an apparently mistaken concept that winter starts on December 1, it's been colder, so we are having a very cold winter. How’s that “not having a very cold winter” thing working out for you, Sarah? Tis' definitely not winter there now. More locally, when the national weather service calulates a winter temperature for a station in our region, it will average all daily temps during December, January, and February.
