A plainclothes police detective in Washington D.C. brandished his gun at a crowd of college students after his Hummer sport utility vehicle was struck by a snowball Saturday.

The detective, Michael Baylor, later shoved a student.

Here’s one of several videos of the incident which has gone viral on the internet …

No word yet on when President Obama will invite Officer Baylor and the snowball thrower to the White House to discuss race relations …

UPDATE: Baylor has been assigned to desk duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation …

I thought snowballs were outlawed in DC. On second thought, only CONCEALED snowballs are banned. Is that his personal Hummer or is it “duty issue”?

That’s a little nuts- no pistol necessary for those girlie granola-eaters. I would have just grabbed the first one I could get my mitts on and hit him with a few special snowballs up close and personal to see if any of the others wanted some of that action…

Warren Bolton ought to be outraged. This is as big as the news of his sunday school christmas party, no doubt the subject of his latest big news scoop. This should be front page above the fold at The State.

Bet if he had fired into the air those little Democrats would have “Pelosied” in their pants.

I’m torn. On the one hand, the cop clearly overreacted and should never have drawn a weapon. He needs to suffer some kind of discipline at his job over this. But on the other hand, there sure were a lot of douchebags in that crowd. Loud, obnoxious, hipster douchebags. Hard to feel real sorry for some of them.

Black cop pulls a gun on a crowd of mostly white kids over a snowball fight–no racism involved; a white officer questions a black man about his presence at the scene of a break in–and the officer is a racist. Is it me or is there something wrong here??

But let’s take this a step further, exactly what law was broken that caused a off duty officer to stop his vehicle in the middle of what has been termed by the media as a friendly snowball fight?? The reports of the presence of “weapons” has no been discredited as the only ones with guns were law enforcement. Further local officals tried to down play the incident stating there was no confrontation, until the tapes showed up of the officer shoving a student in the face, the officer walking around brandishing his service weapon, the responding officers responding with their weapons drawn (until they realized it was one of their own with a gun).

It does cause a person to stop, pause and wonder how close we came to media event where a law enforcement person killed a student(s)?? Every day thousands of men and women get up,put on their uniforms and go out and risk their lives to protect us,our property, our children, that which we hold most dearest. Then one of them comes along and does something that just makes you wonder…

The actual incident, a tempest in a teapot. Hot-headed cop got mad his car was hit with a snowball.
Bigger issue is, good lord, look how MANY cameras are going here. I think a TV crew showed up before it was over.
Imagine if Rodney King happened today. There’s be like 50 angles of it and we’d probably have heard every word the cops said as they hit him again. And again.
I think most cops are great folks and want to help. Then there are hot heads. Some of those get a rush off the authori-tye. Some have drop pieces.
Gonna have to be extra careful with those drop pieces these days if everyone and their uncle has a camera or a cellphone video.

He should have shot those dirty hippies.

If I had been there, and he pulled his gun on me, I would have been in a life threatening situation and shot him dead leaving red blood in the white snow.
Don’t go pulling your gun without expecting that you might get shot.
People will start to take matters in their own hands if justice is not respected.

You are defacing an innocent man’s character “Elmer Baylor”. He is NOT the detective that performed this act. It is MICHAEL BAYLOR! If diligent research was performed you would have realized there are two detectives on the department.

I don’t know of any sensible grown folk who would plan to go to a busy intersection and hurl snowballs at unsuspecting motorists, or assault/batter anyone with a snowball who is not a confirmed participant in the fiasco. Is the detective in trouble because he is African American and the snowball hurling mob is Caucasian? Double standards! A Caucasian police officer can shoot African Americans in the back and it’s ok! A mob of non hood wearing police officers can beat an African American almost to death and it’s ok. If the mob refused to adhere to the officer’s warning to stop and hit him in the face with snowball(s), what was he supposed to do?
The police should have arrested the entire mob.
