James Cameron’s futuristic enviro-epic Avatar ruled a blizzard buried box office last weekend, taking in $73 million in the United States and Canada en route to a whopping $232.2 million total worldwide.
The 3-D sci-fi action movie – which cost an estimated $300 million to produce – is Cameron’s first feature flic since 1997′s Titanic. He was reportedly waiting for movie-making technology to catch up with his creative vision.
Avatar follows the story of a disabled ex-Marine (played by Sam Worthington) who is tasked with infiltrating an alien race of ten foot tall blue people.
