Dear Ben Nelson:
Stop the showboating, Senator Nelson. To hell with the will of the party leadership, to hell with the marathon negotiating sessions, and to hell with maneuverability and leverage.
Take a red-eye out of Washington, and go home to Nebraska to convene a spur-of-the-moment town hall meeting for your constituents. Take a vote – a simple show of hands. Look around, count the hands in the air. Write the results on a piece of paper, fly back to D.C., and hand that piece of paper to Senator Harry Reid.
That will be revolutionary. That will mark a “change,” and that will inspire “hope.”
At last, the U.S. will resemble a representative democracy – a system by which the people (remember them?) elect an ambassador to execute the people’s will. That ambassador (that’s you) ought to be but a figurehead, a mere formality. Why? Because that’s the way a representative democracy works! True, this will be a demotion . . . but you needn’t take it personally. Because that’s the way a representative democracy works!
Speaking of demotions: Remember that piece of paper you’re going to hand to Senator Reid? For effect, make it a pink piece of paper – a “pink slip” for your colleagues, and for yourself. You’re firing yourself, and rehiring the American people.
Whether you ultimately kill the bill or save it, you will have revolutionized the whole of American politics. Quite a legacy that would be . . .

I agree with you 100%.” OUR REPRESENTATIVES ” are our employees. It’s “WE THE PEOPLE” and our constitution that our representatives should abide by. They don’t care about the oath they took under god.

Unfortunately we will have to live with the vote of a spineless, socialist, liberal who would rather follow meekly with Reid and Pelosi than express the wishes of the majority of his constituents.
