A Climate Clusterf*ck

copenhagen

The much-ballyhooed U.N. “Climate Change” conference in Copehagen, Denmark ended in a climate clusterf*ck, as no binding agreement was reached and an American accord with Brazil, China, India and South Africa is being unilaterally rejected by smaller nations, environmentalists and American taxpayers who are unwilling to pay tens of billions a year to developing countries.

The deal agreed to in Copenhagen by President Barack Obama – who swept in for the final day of negotiations – will require America to contribute substantively to a fund that would pay $30 billion over the next three years to developing nations, an amount gradually increasing to $100 billion a year by 2020.

This in effect creates a new “global climate tax,” one which will no doubt enrage U.S. taxpayers who are currently struggling to make ends meet during the worst economic recession in eighty years.

Meanwhile, the so-called “Copenhagen Accord” contains no specific targets for greenhouse gas emissions, and the “temperature pledge” (in which developed nations collective promise to keep worldwide temperatures from risingĀ  by less than two degrees Celsius) contains no specifics pertaining to how that goal will be reached.

The lack of specificity on those two key points has environmentalists calling the agreement – and the conference – a total failure.

Still, Obama claimed “a meaningful and unprecedented breakthrough,” although he is now obviously relying exclusively on a “Cap and Tax” plan currently moving through the U.S. Senate to appease the climate change crowd, which has suffered as string of stunning reversals this year.

“That effort at home serves as a foundation for our leadership around the world,” Obama said.

“Cap and Tax” would create an artificial, government controlled “emissions marketplace,” but it’s basically a new tax on energy, one that could cost the average American family up to $4,000 a year in increased energy costs.

This developing nations fund is a crock of $hit. Most of the money will go to leaders of the developing countries. They will probably have a few small projects to show visitors from developed countries, but I guarantee in most cases only a fraction of the money given a developing country will be spent on green projects….It’s just a way to tell the developing countries to shut up, go home, enjoy the money we send you and let the big boys hash this out…

    hillary and obama,

Who is going to pay for the $100 billion-a-year you promised to combat global warming?

No problem. Obama will just print mo’ money until a piece of toilet paper will be worth more than a Ben Franklin.

Cap and Trade, deficit spending, global warming, who cares? With the Anti-Christ now destroying ‘Merica, the immiment return of the Lord (same year USC wins the East) and the coresponding rapture will destroy the unholy alliance of socialists, Nazis, Acorn, Catholics, Welfare mothers and George Soros.

This is one of the largest hoaxes I can remember. I am so embarassed that we have such an ignorant President who would even honor such an event with his presence. This “Fund” woud just end up in tyrannical leaders hands who rule by controlling the flow of food and basic needs.

    Pat,
Do Democrats actually pay taxes? Charlie Rangel, Tim Geitner, E. Rahm all cheated on their taxes, yet hold positions of high authority.

    Does that trouble you?

Does the fact that stimulus monies thus far have been spent on Democratic districts nearly 2:1 over Republican districts trouble you?

Additionally, Catholics don’t belong on your list of unholy alliances (in fact some bishops have refused sacraments to Democrats who embrace baby murder)…

Perhaps you should add Afrocentric racists (van Jones) and homosexual activists —”School Safety Czar ” Jennings-who published a manual of “fisting” techniques to eighth grade boys– to your list…

Get ready because the EPA is about to do what could never happen in Congress, and not a single vote will be taken to make it happen. The EPA is in the early stages of regulating “carbon emissions.” And lest you think that Congress is going to put the breaks on that effort, all that may happen is that Congress will pass Cap and Trade, which everyone will see as the lesser of two evils.

Still think the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, with all of the power that was given to the EPA and the Corps of Engineers, is a good idea? Sic, still think South Carolina’s Administrative Procedures Act is flawed? We are getting screwed with our pants on, and the screwing is the result of 40 years of legislative incrementalism.

The Environmentalists are jumping for joy, and so are the liberal elites. And politicians like Mark Sanford supported them because they could not see past their personal beliefs and understand the long-term effects of the various incremental bills that they supported.

What is happening now is the result of the longest, most patient legislative strategy in the history of the world. It would be a thing of beauty if the results were not so bad.
