The SCGOP’s Whiney McWhinerson Poll
The 2010 South Carolina GOP gubernatorial primary is more than six months away, but already the race has turned into one of the whiniest we’ve ever seen – which is saying something in a state full of notoriously thin-skinned politicians.
Seriously, if the GOP contenders in this race- U.S Rep. Gresham Barrett, S.C. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster, State Rep. Nikki Haley and State Sen. Larry Grooms – spent as much time formulating concrete policy as they do formulating contrived petulance, then we might actually have something to write about.
Well, other than the latest whine fest between rival campaigns.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon. This intellectually incurious fivesome seems content to tinker around the edges of South Carolina’s chronic problems (which have gotten worse in the recent economic downturn) while devoting the majority of their attention to petty sniping at their rivals.
It’s like a campaign for student body president … except the candidates aren’t as attractive as Tracy Flick was in Election. Or Summer Wheatley was in Napoleon Dynamite.
Accordingly, every story we write about the 2010 race quickly devolves into an intramural spitball fight between campaigns as warring political operatives (who apparently get paid to post comments on blogs) rush to attack rival candidates who – in many cases – weren’t even mentioned in the story.
Sheesh … nobody told us five women were in this race!
Anyway, we figured with all this whining going on, we would offer the opportunity for a purge … namely a poll that allows all of those operatives to vote on which campaign is the whiniest.
We’ll even present the whiner … err, winning campaign manager with our official “Whiney McWhinerson” award – a really, really large pacifier.
Our vote, incidentally, is for the campaign of U.S Rep. Gresham Barrett.

Mr. Smith II – should we “read between the lines” on that comment?

It seems to me the only person who is doing the winning is FITS news. Go back and look at the stories. You are writing about every detail of the campaigns that no one cares about. It is just gossip and back channel stuff. You are the one who is actually promoting campaigns to dig up dirt on each other.

Billy Bob-
Please do continue because you’ll only be making our point. These morons come out with policy statements that are nothing but generic statements of intent (i.e. I’ll make our port system the best in the nation) but God forbid anybody ask them specific questions. Like “How?”
THEY DON’T KNOW HOW … which is why their campaigns consist almost entirely of touting their “inbredorsements” i.e. the endorsements of other inbred politicians who share their non-vision for state government. Meanwhile their campaign staffers basically exist for no other reason than to dig and peddle dirt on their opponents.
Also, God forbid anybody actually land a blow because then they turn into paid whiners (particularly Gresham Barrett’s people) who think that their candidates are entitled to have their asses kissed 24/7 even when they get caught with their pants down.
Don’t get us wrong, we’ll print it all (it’s our job), we’ve just never seen such a pathetic field of candidates in our lives, and we felt the “Whiney McWhinerson” poll was an opportunity to showcase that.

Where do I get in line for my paycheck for doing this?
No one has hired me and, as acerbic as I usually am, I doubt anyone ever will–not for this stuff, at least.
Nikki has specific proposals that are key to saving money and having less corruption in government. With such fundamental reform measures in place, I can’t see how we can lose in the long run when determining what the state can do and cannot do legally in specific measures when approaching other objectives:
http://sc.statehouseblogs.com/2009/12/16/press-release-nikki-haley-pre-files-state-government-reform-bills/
Nikki Haley also seems to have more specifics about other issues as well. IMHO, she’d be the only one writing up specifics and leading the pack instead of following the pack it as the lazy good ol’ boys would be doing. NONE of the others match her high energy level nor her high intelligence.
The big three symbiotic candidate (bauerbarrettmcmastah) DOES have millions of dollars from their political careers/corruption, however. They’ve obviously learned from Lindsey Graham that all you have to do is sell your votes and influence and you can stay in office forever.
