Yay, “Stimulus”

The federal “stimulus” could be saving or creating a whole different sort of “jobs …”

That’s because $400,000 in “economic recovery” is headed for the hip pockets of a bunch of malt liquor swilling, pot smoking young adults.

The funding went to the University of Buffalo, which is doling a chunk of it out in $45 dollar increments to alcoholics and pot smokers as part of a study into the social habits of young people who like to get drunk and high. Amazingly, part of the study reportedly endeavors to find out if women are more susceptible to amorous advances while they are under the influence of pot and malt liquor.

Hmmm …

As much as we wish this was a joke, it’s not.  In fact, it was part of $7 billion in “stimulus waste” (isn’t it all waste?) identified by U.S. Senators John McCain and Tom Coburn earlier this week.

Not surprisingly, the University of Buffalo – and U.S. Sen Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) – are rushing to defend the expenditure.

“We will save much more money in health care costs and we can promote better economic growth if we can eradicate addiction from our society,” Gillenbrand told a local TV station.

Say huh?

The school is laying it on even thicker.

“Researchers need to understand the social context of these individuals who use alcohol and drugs in order to develop solutions to address this endemic problem in cities in the U.S.,” Buffalo VP for Research Dr. Jorge V. Jose told the local student newspaper.

Dr. R. Lorraine Collins, the researcher who is conducting this ridiculous study, was practically indignant that her research was being called into question.

Collins said that criticism of the study “undermines what I and others at UB and all across the country do in their research … to improve society and to teach students to be critical thinkers.”

Uh-huh.

Incidentally, the school claims that the $400,000 grant “saved” three jobs … or exactly the number of jobs “saved” by a $6 million grant that went to two companies run by Hillary Clinton’s pollster.

Yay, “stimulus!”

Were it not a disbursement by the fed, racketeering comes to mind as a description… malfeasance, graft and corruption being too passe and only real if done by a Republican I guess.

Is anyone really surprised by this? The entire stimulus package was just a way for the democrats to payoff all of the special interests that have supported them for years. We need to demand real accountability from our elected officials and halt the legitimacy of these hairball research schemes.
