Mark Sanford’s Statement On Divorce

mark sanford resignation

S.C. Governor Mark Sanford issued the following statement Friday after his wife, S.C. First Lady Jenny Sanford, announced that she was filing for divorce after twenty years of marriage …

While it is not the course I would have hoped for, or would choose, I want to take full responsibility for the moral failure that led us to this tragic point. Jenny is a great person, and has been a remarkable wife, mother and First Lady. She has been more than gracious these last six months and gone above and beyond in her patience and commitment to put the needs of others in front of her own. While our family structure may change, I know that we will both work earnestly to be the best mom and dad we can be to four of the finest boys on earth.

I will join with her in asking the press to respect our shared desire for privacy as we quietly move forward. We respectively ask for your prayers.

Gov. Sanford mysteriously disappeared from the Palmetto State for five days in late June – Father’s Day weekend, to be precise. He later confessed to having an extramarital affair with his Latin lover, Maria Belen Chapur, a woman he described as his “soul mate.” The governor also admitted to “crossing lines” with other women.

Didn’t he choose to sleep with the homewrecker and then tell the world he loved her more than his wife?

Can’t some reporter get the real story of where Maria really is-Marke has just been waiting for this-who does he think he’s fooling-he threw Jenny and his boys “under the bus” for the Homewrecker-hope he’s happy!! If you believe in fate he never, ever will be!

His public statement on this was sure better than hers. One had a heart in it the other was cold, blue steel.

Throughout this whole ordeal, Jenny has been nearly flawless in how she has handled everything–the press, the Governor, and especially her children. Every step has remarkable in it’s perfection….until now, in my opinion. Certainly, no one can fault her for leaving this man. No woman should have to go through life knowing you are not your husband’s soulmate. ( That still infuriates me!) Her statement on the divorce filing was thoughtfully crafted, but the timing does not work for me. It’s two weeks before Christmas, and while that’s great timing to stick it to her husband, she has four boys who will never forget throughout their lives, that THIS is the time of year that her parents began the divorce process.

I am glad Jenny Sanford is getting a divorce from the Eglomaniac. I know she will (with her families help) get everything including his dreams.

I don’t like Mark Sanford. People know that. But, his statement was classy. If only he could have been as classy when he had that incredible interview last summer. Hopefully, both Sanfords have got their angst against one another out, but somehow I doubt it.

Lifetime will probably have a movie about the evil Governor, and then Spike will answer with a movie about the cold and bitchy wife.

Will we see Jenny pick up the baton that Mark dropped and run with it?

He and Maria will marry w/i months of him leaving office and then he will call these events unfortunate personal times before he seeks a new public paid option

I completely agree with 1+1. People have short memories..he will call himself “imperfect” and slink back into some kind of low key paid job. Even Guiliani was able to make a comeback.
Although he has just half the brains and competence of guiliani. and the latter was never a joke.

no no Mark can’t marry Maria. It’s in the divorce.
The divorce is written vinculo martimonii.
That means Mark can’t marry his paramour.
    How utterly convenient ey?

That law is only in NY – in most states it just means a Final divorce which allows parties to remarry. In some states it also means that the plaintiff retains all properties/possession owned prior to marriage. This means Sanford will get nothing from her fortune.

Mark is rich but illiquidable wealth. I can’t imagine how he is going to support that high maintenance woman from Argentina – I mean look at her bag she was holding in those recent pictures – if I am not mistaken that is a Ferragamo worth a couple grand. She also doesn’t work and is paid alimony from her rich ex-husband so I doubt she will marry. Don’t forget she still has a 14 year old living with her and a 19 year old so how is she going to risk all that to come live on a farm!

Why did Jenny blames gays for her husband’s infidelity? She should serious look at the mirror instead of outsourcing her intra and interpersonal deficiencies with hubby.

I believe he has apologized and done everything he could do to make amends. It takes two to cause a divorce so, I believe if she would have been so “perfect” he would not have strayed. If I were him ,I would just get on with my life. I might even consider seeing if I might have something to pursue in this other relationship. You can’t Unscramble scrambeled eggs ,so, go forward and put things behind.
