Obama Accepts Nobel Peace Prize
U.S. President Barack Obama accepted perhaps the most controversially-awarded Nobel peace prize in history on Thursday at a ceremony in Oslo, Norway.
“It is now, today, we have the opportunity to support President Obama’s ideas,” said Nobel Committee Chairman Thorbjorn Jagland. “This year’s prize is a call to action for all of us.”
The decision by the Nobel Committee to honor Obama – who by all accounts did nothing to earn the award – was met with a torrent of criticism in America and around the world.
After all, the deadline for nominations for the award came just 12 days after Obama was inaugurated, meaning that the award was given to “The One” based on his U.S. presidential campaign – which focused almost exclusively on (unfulfilled) domestic promises.
Critics also pointed out that Obama was receiving an award that had been denied to iconic figures like Pope John Paul II or Mahatma Gandhi.
Even the most left-leaning liberals (i.e. those who may have been initially inclined to support the decision to grant Obama the Nobel prize) have become disenchanted following his decision to send 30,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, conservative new media empress Michelle Malkin had a funny take on Obama’s acceptance of this award.
“In honour of President Barack Obama’s acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think we should declare today Happy National Post-Achievement Day,” Malkin writes. “What award or honour don’t you deserve? Claim it. What unearned prize for unmet aspirations would you like to give yourself? Declare it.”
Clive Crook of The Atlantic, however, praised Obama for “rediscovering his oratorical touch in Oslo.”
“There’s nothing wrong with making people purr,” Crook wrote.
So … what’s your take?

I don’t know how to react the first time I heard that he had the award. He had not done anything yet for the people of America. But I can’t blame the committee for that , they know what they are doing and hopefully they won’t regret it.

First, I am awaiting Cooter Brown’s comments on this. Second, our negro president has won an award for doing absolutely nothing. If this is not social promotion of the negro, I cannot explain it. Our society is being ruined by this type of negro promotion. Don’t get me wrong, there are some very qualified and deserving African Americans. Obama is just not one of them. It is sad when African American patients will not see an African American physician because they feel these guys have been socially promoted and were not of the same quality as their peers.

It used to be that in order to win the Nobel, you had to have accomplished something. How does making more war and killing more people–? Oh. Maybe the prize is for “pacifying” areas like they did in Vietnam. Peace was brought to an area because everyone within stated area were killed. In that sense, I guess he may have earned the Peace Prize. Kill enough people and there won’t be anyone left to fight. Peace is declared!
