A study scheduled to be released Wednesday by the S.C. Manufacturers’ Alliance will highlight the huge role the manufacturing industry continues to play in the state economy – despite recent job losses.
Specifically, the study will show a total economic impact on the state of nearly $150 billion – as well as hundreds of thousands of jobs created both directly and indirectly by the industry.
The impact of the manufacturing industry has come into focus in recent weeks thanks to a major jobs announcement by Boeing, which revealed in October that it was building its 787 Dreamliner in North Charleston.
Boeing says the new facility will create 3,800 new jobs, while spin-off estimates range from 8,000 – 10,000 additional jobs.
The study will be released Wednesday by Manufacturers’ Alliance Chairman Bobby Hitt at a press conference at BMW North America’s headquarters in Greer, S.C.
Check FITS tomorrow for specific numbers from the report, which was prepared by the Columbia consulting firm of Miley, Gallo & Associates.

We need MORE..MORE incentives for these people to come here….
What are these idiots in the capital doing????…worrying about what Sanford if doing….

More incentives? We can’t afford them, Liberty. We’ll never have enough to buy our way into a good economy.
I feel like an old schoolteacher teaching the same lesson to a bunch of remedial students, but here goes: comprehensive tax relief is the only way to push the whole state forward – just giving it to a few companies does not work long-term! Want proof? Look at our economy. Right now. Today. How’s that whole politicians-deciding-economics plan looking for you guys if you don’t happen to work inside the political system?

Anyone who believes any of these blown out of proportion impact estimates pulled out of thin air created by a self-serving interest group deserves to have his hard earned money wasted by the government.
Anytime a study has to talk about “indirect jobs” being created is a flashing red light that someone is trying to steal taxpayer money by over-inflating their importance.
If paying companies millions of dollars to locate in our state is a liberal Democrat’s answer to all our state’s economic woes, then let’s give away a trillion dollars next year and see what the long term impact really is.

Marvin..I totally agree. But if they wont reduce our taxes at least bringing in jobs will help. For sure the only real growing sector is government…..I got your back

You’re all wrong. Incentivize the worthy and highest paying industries. Tracking these down and courting them is the job of business the business development group. That they let our textile industry and supporting indirect jobs go is a crime also.
