Obama To America: Spend Yo Money

Barack Obama is rooting for “the audacity of hope,” but it’s looking increasingly as if the American economy is plagued by his predecessor’s oft-regurgitated pablum … err, problem, the “soft bigotry of low expectations.”

Either way, the bottom line is that America isn’t opening its wallets and pocketbooks with the frequency that “The One” would like, and so the snake oil Salesman-in-Chief is hitting the road to boost consumer confidence.

According to the latest Gallup data, consumer spending last week was down 21% from the same point a year ago – which bodes ill for the economy when you consider that last year was the worst holiday shopping season in decades.

From Gallup:

Consumer Spending continued to disappoint last week, as self-reported daily spending in stores, restaurants, gas stations, and online averaged $75 — up $6 from the previous week. Given that last week included a pay period, this increase in spending was minimal at best. More importantly, it was down 21% from last year’s comparable, when average spending was $95 per day. Still, the average spending for the week was at one of its highest levels of the year and it is not entirely clear how the 2008-2009 spending decrease will affect Christmas gift expenditures versus other discretionary spending such as eating out, traveling, or going to the movies. Regardless, it appears as though there will need to be a major surge in consumer discretionary spending during the next couple of weeks if this year’s holiday expenditures are going to come anywhere close to matching last year’s dismal performance.

A big part of America’s reticence to spend?

Concern over the irrational fiscal policies being pushed by Obama and his Congressional allies in Washington … and the failure of Obama to deliver on substantive middle class tax relief.

This stuff isn’t rocket science people.  When government sucks up all the money, consumers have less of it to spend and are less inclined to spend what they do have.

Obama’s statist policies are achieving exactly what he engineered them to achieve: the collapse of America’s capitalistic economy.

Give the man a chance. Obama could come out with an identical plan to George W. Bush and you would crap all over that. It is amazing. The problem here, people, is it doesn’t matter what is proposed by Obama or any democratic politician, you’ll bash it because its coming from the ‘other’ party.

I can not make my self write your screen name you know who you are though, a lot of us despise Obama because we see him as Bushs 3rd term. What has he done that Bush did not other than bomb Pakastain?

Obama is great!

I’m not bashing Obama ’cause he’s from the other party.

I’m lamenting his statist policies which are litterally flushing my children’s future down the drain.

Laney – when you say, “Flushing my kids future down the drain,” that’s the same thing people we saying 25 years ago when Reagan was president.

All administrations have added to the Federal Deficit and it will continue that way until congress realizes that need to more responsible. We can blame whom-ever is president for our problems but there is still a Congress that needs to step up to the plate and stop it from happening.

I don’t know anyone except hard-core socialists who thought Reagan was “flushing” their kids future down the toilet.

My middle-class parents applauded Reagan’s tax-cutting, Big-Government-reducing agenda.

Obama is the most miserable failure of a president we have seen to date. I really had to think before putting him ahead of Carter, but he has earned it.

Senate Democrats today rejected restrictions on federally funded abortion.

So it appears the Democrats plan to take tax-dollars from hard-working Americans like me and spend it to murder innocent babies.

Now I know why the Democrats hate Sarah Palin–she defends innocent life.

Don’t worry your little head, theo. Money will also continue to be used with no restrictions to kill little babies that have already been born in Iraq and Afghanistan. There. Feel better?

Some saw that by cutting taxes and not really reining spending, even if you want to blame Congress for that, the deficit ballooned so big during the Reagan years that it took until Bill Clinton’s last year in office for it to be relieved and we had a tiny little surplus.
Which Bush destroyed in his first year, even before 9/11.

By dirtbogger on December 10th, 2009 at 2:27 pm

OhNoNotAgain, you are right about that, however it seems the so called Right speaks of smaller government and cutting spending they never actually do it. Its just their speaking point to get into get elected. It was Bushs Bailout before it was Obamas.
