South Carolina: We’re No. 1!!!
Our citizens are broke and out of work, our kids can’t read, our government is stuck in friggin’ 1895 and our state is a perpetual punch line for the late night talk shows, but dammit if South Carolina doesn’t lead the nation in … wait for it … clean hospital hands.
In fact, South Carolina’s Hospital Association has been selected by the World Health Organization to lead a national “hand-washing” initiative, according to SCNow.com.
The association has been tapped for this prestigious honor (cough) due to the fact that a recent hand-washing campaign in our state’s medical facilities “has shown a significant drop in the spread of infectious diseases within these institutions.”
Um, not to pour cold water on what is obviously a rare positive headline for the Palmetto State, but isn’t hand-washing in hospitals pretty much standard operating procedure?
Seriously, are there actually states (Mississippi?) where hospital staffers don’t wash their hands?
Anyway, three cheers for South Carolina … “Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!”
Or, “Hip Hop Hooray,” if you’re so inclined …
UPDATE: We’d like to point out that while our hospital employees may lead the nation in clean hands, our politicians clearly lead the nation in dirty thoughts.

Some surgeons and scrub nurses on a surgical team were suspended from Roper St. Francis in Charleston for staph infections they got and gave to patients by not hand washing. Well it beats the press we got for locking up pregnant coke whore mothers at MUSC.

I really hope this “award” will lead to an increase in hand-jobs for South Carolina.

I heard about this like five, six months ago.
