Former Solicitor’s Office Shot Up

solicitor's office shot up

Can it get any crazier in Cheraw, S.C.?

Seriously, we’re surprised that reality TV producers aren’t flocking to this tiny, um, “hamlet” in droves to document all the crazy redneck drama that’s perpetually going down.

In fact, ever since we broke the story of a major scandal involving an ethically-challenged local Solicitor back in May, this entire town has literally come unglued.

The latest drama?

According to the Cheraw Chronicle, an unknown assailant took a pellet gun to a property owned by the former Solicitor, Jay Hodge, over the Thanksgiving holiday.

For those of you who haven’t been following this ongoing local government soap opera, Hodge and several of his cronies are in some serious hot water over the alleged misappropriation of public funds – except that’s only the beginning of this salacious tale.

The allegations regarding the Fourth Circuit Solicitor’s scandal have boiled over into people’s personal lives, as efforts to “follow the taxpayer money” have uncovered a host of seedy alleged abuses. Add to the mix rumors of previous cover-ups and fresh allegations of intimidation against prospective witnesses and this ranks right up there in terms of the craziest stories that we’ve ever covered.

It’s also been one of the most popular on our comment boards.

Anyway, from the Chronicle:

The building, owned by Jay Hodge, said that he heard about the incident on Thanksgiving evening. He also added that the building was a historical property that was constructed in 1916.

Police reports reflect that shots were allegedly fired at the front window, front door and also the back door of the property, which resulted in damage to the historical building.

First of all, buildings can’t talk, people. Or hear.  And furthermore, how did this reporter deduce that the building in question was a “he?”

Sheesh.  We know they can’t count in Cheraw, but c’mon …

Anyway, count on FITS to keep you updated on the latest as this town’s crazy train rolls on …

UPDATE: Given that we so rarely get to write about pellet guns, we figured this song was appropriate under the circumstances …

The irony of this case is that it appears on the day that there are stories in the main stream media about how the Legislature’s Judicial Merit Selection Committee is having to discipline a Charleston Family Court judge because the present South Carolina judicial discipline process is simply run at the arbitrary whim of the Queen Jean. If these allegations against Hodge are even remotely true and he had been a Republican, he would have been slammed onto interim suspension with no hearing, no publicity and no due process. Hodge has been smart enough to play politics with the Queen to keep on keeping on. Was Vincent Sheheen his contact to the Queen? Or Robert Stewart?

By OhNoNotAgain on December 3rd, 2009 at 9:52 am

You know, linking back to relavent things is always nice. But the “they can’t count” reference just stretches way beyond any reasonableness.
It’s crazy what’s going on there, though. No doubt.

Wrote in one of the posted, appropriate linked stories — “I used to live in Cheraw a long time ago. Believed in Jay Hodge and believe it or not, he ran against a boob of a solicitor that truly had to go. But Hodge didn’t make all the changes promised.
“I knew Barbara Bullard and Safrona Finch and a couple of others mentioned in all this.
“Based on what B.B. did then, based on how Jay Hodge turned out right before I moved away, I’d put my money on Barbara. Shame too. Really had hopes for Jay.”

By Lured on December 3rd, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Well, we know that Bullard, Michael, Joyner, and Rowell had nothing to do with this because they are all innocent.

“I’d put my money on Barbara.”

Yeah, thats what you do. Put it on Michael, Joyner, and Rowell while you’re at it, gambling individual.

There has been no doubt in my mind from day one how this entire investigation will conclude, and what will proceed. Hey, but what do I know.

It’s gotten really ugly up here. D.C. Justice needs to come on down to this crazy town cause it’s corrupt to the bone.

I’m afraid someone is really going to get hurt, as in murdered, as one poster said, “Thrown in the Pee Dee River wearing concrete boots”. The river and local swamp here need to be dredged.

Oh, and Sheehen lost my vote and some others’ votes regarding this. He was called to help on this and basically ignored the call. Same with Spratt. Stewart lost respect because he had to know about this & lots of other issues in this past concerning this area. After all, he’s from here.

By Freddie Guy on December 3rd, 2009 at 6:37 pm

What is the hell does being a State Senator or Congressman have to do with enforcing the laws. Sounds like something that Law Enforcement should handle.

…and yes, most/all of the law enforcement in the area is under the jurisdiction of the Solicitors office, so they wouldn’t touch it.

…so the Feds would be the ones who have jurisdiction and come in and make a case.

…and this is what happened.

Where is the big cover-up? If Jay is as guilty as everyone says he is, the Feds WILL get their man!!! and justice will be served.

By Sad, Sad, Sad on December 3rd, 2009 at 10:23 pm

The problem was the FBI was called & nothing happened, years ago. People climbed the chain of command ladder.

Besides, FBI has one of their own in law enforcement here. Wonder if that’s posing a problem.

Bad thing about it is funds are pretty far down the list on what people should be worried about. Read the posts and accusations.

I did not accuse/would not know, but a child sexual abuse allegation was outright placed with the official’s name on one post. That would qualify as slander and FBI, I would imagine, could subpoena that.

I’m beginning to wonder if the ones in law enforcement are the bad guys. Yes, some need to go, no question, but I could see someone in law enforcement knowing things, but be unable to do anything about it because a certain someone has money and ties to cover it up. Perhaps they beat the crap out of the guy, people felt sorry for the poor little rich boy, and the cops end up looking like the bad guys. This entire thing is mindboggling.

By Todd on December 3rd, 2009 at 10:24 pm

Freddie Guy: Read my first post. It appears good ole Democrat Sheheen exerted a little power and got to Queen Jean and put the brakes on any honest investigation of Hodge by the South Carolina Office of Disciplinary Counsel. The other agencies are now way behind. Corrupt liars.

By LOL on December 4th, 2009 at 9:31 am

Well it couldn’t have happen to a nicer guy.. hell, he probably staged it himself to draw pity.

By Freddie Guy on December 4th, 2009 at 11:04 am

I’m on the same side with all of you. Nonetheless, I have a VERY hard time believing that the FBI guys in Washington are even remotely swayed by a small-time local official.

If Sheheen or any other city/county/state elected official ignored a caller that said that “Jay is dirty”, its because they have NO control or say over Federal investigators.

Now if they seriously called Toal (or any others) to ask that an investigation NOT take place that is a completely different story…

…but show me where that has happened
(besides in Will Folks fat balding head!)

In time, justice will be served. If the FEDS find out that justice was obstructed, again, justice will be served…

Fred

By Sad, Sad, Sad on December 5th, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I fully disagree with you there, Fred. The accused people in this have not relented one bit. There will be no real justice here. Maybe 1 or 2 people sit in a federal prison for awhile, but look at the charges. The official ones, on paper. All it addresses is money, misuse of funds.

Now the same damned person that is accused of this has also been accused of molesting boy scouts. I didn’t make the accusation, I don’t know if it’s true or false, but it’s there. It was posted on another article on this site. That’s one hell of an accusation, but no word of it.

This surprises me none at all. I, however, will continue to push for justice actively concerning these folks, through legal means, of course, and for the addressing of the truly important issues here. Money is at the bottom of the list. Apparently, Fred, you have not dealt with these folks or lost, really lost, anything due to their actions or been harrassed or threatened. Perhaps if you did you’d feel differently.

By Sad, Sad, Sad on December 7th, 2009 at 12:27 pm

Something is definitely up. No one is talking anymore & you could hear a pin drop concerning this issue.

By Sad, Sad, Sad on December 7th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

P.S. Meant to add that one local paper’s explanation of their lack of coverage concerning certain individuals is, and this was stated to me personally, their fear of being sued. I can accept that, even though I’d do differently. Put it under the editorials and list no specific names, if nothing else.

By Word2Wise on December 7th, 2009 at 7:48 pm

The Bojangles grapevine yields new information. Word now is that the accused is planning an attack on a few of the supposed whistle blowers.. the plan is to attack their character, their business, their family members and to “teach them a lesson”. What the accused doesn’t take into consideration is that a couple of the targets are die hards. I know two of them and they will spend every waking hour and use every angle and tool at their disposal to engage in battle. These guys are no push over they have the resources, energy, skills, connections, and intellict to go into “hand to hand” with whatever the accused care to throw. While i don’t want it to sound like i’m in love with these guys, i do know that if he accused are looking for a worthy adversary, then if what i hear at Bojangles is true the sparks are fixing to fly. Ladies and gentlemen get out the microwave popcorn.. this is fixing to get interesting.

Well, well. Another great day in this lovely area. A C’fld Deputy arrested for meth-related charges and local schools received a series of bomb threats.

Lovely. What a great area, no wonder it’s booming and have all the serious issues like child abuse, heavy drug abuse and sells, rape, murder, and the likes under control.

I pray, literally & honestly, for God to deliver me from this area. I’m not joking. I pray to financially be able to move, soon, so very soon. I would not recommend this area to a cockroach. Though cockroaches and the like seem to thrive here. Sure other states and areas have their issues and problems, but dear God what is wrong with SC? What is so very wrong with Chesterfield County? I must say there is plenty of religion here but very little of anything resembling kindness, decency, honesty, brotherly love, and the likes. Especially tolerance. You know, what Christ really taught and believed in.

If folks want to attack me for what I’ve posted, fine, but I’m not the only one saying it.

By not surprised on December 9th, 2009 at 7:47 pm

WhosWise, don’t think hodge is just a butt man, he’ll eat the occasional breast or thigh {chicken only of course so there’s no confusion on his sexual preference} and he loves biscuits, steals them in napkins from County Kithcen when he eats there. Just look at his belly and that’s not hard to figure out. Although, i’ll have to say he has shed a few lbs recently. Don’t know if it’s worry or the dreaded alphabet virus, you know FBI.
With all that’s gone on in this community, county and district, why would any citizen not be up in arms against the politico’s in our area? Leave it to good ole Cheraw to keep their heads stuck in the sand until the storm passes over.

No attack on your post from me. I totally agree with everythng that you have said including to be delivered from this place. A lot of back scratching is going on. There are a lot of people with the same opinion as yours. Pick me up on your way out of town.

Saw a CNN bus in Cheraw this afternoon, could it be that this scandal has finally hit the mainstream media? Lets hope so, would be a nice gift to the community. Keep hearing what these hooligans are doing to intimidate the “accusers” and what their plans are for them, seems a little stifling is in order to curtail these scandalous officials and bring this thing to an end and glue our communities back together. From what i can gather, SLED has had information for more than two years and hasn’t done s***. So CNN, its your turn.

By JUST 4 YOUR 411 on December 14th, 2009 at 7:48 pm

Sorry no reporting the scandals in Chesterfield County! Oops CNN you missed a good story right under your nose!!!

By Laura Campbell on December 14th, 2009 at 8:16 pm

I don’t really know who “accusers” entails, but let it be known that my family has endured all that it is going to endure from these folks.

It’s just me and my child now and I intend to live peacefully until I am fortunate enough to be able to relocate.

As for The Link, I appreciate the enlightening article about my ex-spouse. While true, the implied connotation about him could be the furthest thing from the truth.

I suppose some folks are upset about embarrassing information put on this site by me and others, but it was the truth and about job performance, not a personal attack on anyone’s family. I realize some posters have gone too far commenting on people’s personal lives, but I never did. I’d like for the detective who worked my case to know that, as well as the fact that I would never outright set out to ruin people’s families as he and some others have done.

Then again, that is the crux of the issue, isn’t it? How many people’s lives have been ruined by corrupt individuals who are capable of just about anything, with complete disregard for children or anyone else.

Just remember who started this bonfire while yall are exacting your revenge. Understand too that folks have had enough.

I have had an interesting couple of days but really feel like my efforts will pay off. News bus was in Cheraw and on a whim, i drove over from “marlboro” and stopped by and got the opportunity to speak with some very nice people and while they’re questions of me pertained mostly about the economy, they did ask if there was anything of interest going on in the area.. two hours later i emerged from a very deep conversation with an organization that could send tremors around America. Sometimes we place our confidence in people or agencies who fail us or let us down, but if you keep pushing forward sooner or later, you’ll stumble on someone who can help. It’s in their hands now and if all goes as discussed.. it will get interesting.

By JUST 4 YOUR 411 on December 15th, 2009 at 3:15 pm

BLITZER: All right. Let’s bring in our chief business correspondent, Ali Velshi.

Ali is with the CNN Express in South Carolina right now.

These mixed messages — one economic adviser saying the recession is over, the other economic adviser saying it’s not over.

What are folks out there saying — Ali? ALI VELSHI, CNN CHIEF BUSINESS CORRESPONDENT: Wolf, if — when I ask people, they seem to be mixed, as well.

Some people were asking me, you tell me, is the recession over?

It is not, however, if they’re not prompted to have that discussion — it’s not the discussion that’s taking place where we are in — in South Carolina. It wasn’t the discussion taking place last night in North Carolina.

That discussion is more about jobs, it’s about lending to individuals and lending to small businesses, and it’s about taxes, about health care. People are not having sort of what comes across as a bit of an academic discussion about technically whether the recession is over or it’s not.

That said, it’s a little perplexing that the White House wouldn’t be on the same page about this. Most economists do believe that this recession is over. But, of course, a recession isn’t over until the organization that is charged with saying so does. And usually that’s a rearview mirror look.

So the chances are this recession is over. But at this point in America, it looks like a jobless recovery at the moment. And that’s of greater concern than the technicality of whether we’re in a recession or not.

BLITZER: Yes. As Jack Cafferty said, for a lot of these people who are unemployed or underemployed, the country is clearly in recession.

VELSHI: Right.

BLITZER: What are folks out there doing to deal with this tough economy, because you’re speaking to a lot of them as you go across the country?

VELSHI: Yes. Yes. And particularly, as you know, we’ve done a number of these trips, Wolf. And we’re a year into a holiday season that was very, very rough a year ago. We’re talking to people about how this holiday season is different and what they’re thinking.

A lot of creativity out there. I met a woman last night who had worked at the North Carolina Zoo for 25 years, lost her job and is now retraining to be a teacher and thinks that it’s a — it’s a fantastic experience.

We’re meeting people here in Cheraw, South Carolina — we met a drugstore owner who’s having a tough time, but they’re actually expanding their business. They’re focusing and deciding what works and trying to grow their business. So people are getting much more creative. They’re past the resignation and the blame. They’re — they’re trying to figure out how they’re going to make 2010 a lot different for them. And I’m — I’m getting a real sense of that as we — as we begin this trip — Wolf.

BLITZER: Ali, you’re in what town?

Pronounce the name of the city that you are in right now.

VELSHI: Cheraw, South Carolina. It is the birthplace of Dizzy Gillespie.

BLITZER: Wow! All right. Good to know.

VELSHI: Yes.

BLITZER: Ali is in Cheraw, South Carolina.

VELSHI: Yes.
CNN N CHERAW!!!

BLITZER: It looks like it’s on the border between South Carolina and North Carolina. A nice place, I am sure.

VELSHI: Yes. Just below the — just before the — below the state line.

BLITZER: All right, Ali.

We’ll be checking in with you tomorrow, as well.

Thank you.

I agree with you Deep Throat, CNN got an ear full. I bet they were burnig rubber trying to get out of one of Stephen King’s “real life” fictinal stories. I heard they got lots of tips from people in the shadows, so much so that the interview with our mayor was difficult to keep a straight face. All of our privileged ones downtown poking their chests out with pride and they were bombarded with all the dirt and corruption that abounds here. I guess if we could figure out how to let that boost our economy, we’d all be fine. That’s right, it only goes to the chosen few. I spoke with them myself and passed along as much info as I could. I only hope that it finds itself in front of the right person. But, as I told him, there are other news outlets and I’m sure someone outside this click will listen.

By Another Opinion on December 16th, 2009 at 1:53 pm

They have listened. They are waiting. I would imagine when the FEDS tell you to shut up, you do it. Just my opinion, but I’d suggest everybody bunker down. This things gonna take a long time. Or will it? Or maybe the FEDS have left. Maybe they don’t care what goes on here. Or maybe they’re giving people enough rope to hang themselves. Maybe they’ve planted some agents around here. Maybe they’re symapathetic to law enforcement and our officials. Maybe they’re waiting on more folks to come foward. Who really knows?

Have I gotten it about right about what spins around in the heads of those accused? Must be hell to think about this several times a day, not knowing what will happen, covering up things, hoping folks won’t talk, wondering. Glad I’m not in their position.

By Fan The Flames on December 17th, 2009 at 7:46 am

Well they have finally hit the sore spot, the accused that is. If you intimidate the right people, you have sent an open invitation for attention. I got a telephone call this morning from an individual in Cheraw… all I can say is that “you ain’t seen nothing yet”.

It was truly I sight to be seen. The Cheraw PD had to come escort her out. This is what kind of people y’all are dealing with.

I’ve one thing on my mind: RELOCATION. Unless I’ve died and gone to hell and Chesterfield County is it and I just don’t know it yet. It would qualify. Seriously, the cops cooking meth thing was the icing on the cake.

By Intense Observer on December 21st, 2009 at 7:22 am

Well “too funny”, if your posts doesn’t smell like a former insider, then my nose ain’t working. First, you address Mr. Michael as “Kenny”, secondly, only an insider would use the description “worthless check unit”.. most refer to it as “bad check”, and you make reference “It was truly I sight”, meaning, if this did in fact happen, you were there. So Mr. or Mrs. Insider, I hope you realize how you’ve pointed your finger, cause some “will be a calling”.

I think most of the ugly stuff written about folks here, including the comments about people’s kids and families and vicious personal attacks come mostly from one person. They are juvenile and suggest someone immature.

If I were that person I would try to realize that Hodge’s office was shot up, people have been threatened, and most don’t take personal attacks, especially on their families, lightly.

I heard the school bomb threat was also against the courthouse and one person’s family specifically. It’s a shame because they have a small child. Whatever issues folks have with others should not involve attacks on people’s families. This is just another example of how dangerous and serious this all is. There are some seriously dangerous folks retaliating and at the heart of this investigation. Folks may think this is humorous but I’m sure not laughing. No one in this county should be.

This is what happens when political corruption on a level such as this occurs and law enforcement and officials over them are thugs and criminals.

By Obtuse Observer on December 21st, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Intense Observer, are you serious? I’m sure a few other people besides those present may be aware of the events “too funny” described, not that they’re relevant. Cheraw is a small town, people talk, people are well aware of things that go on behind closed doors. Almost every comment in this ongoing series is evidence of the fact that a lot of people know a lot more than the accused are comfortable with.

What did you say on the other article, “People, you know it’s bad when the cops are cooking meth”. 10, give or take, words have never rung more true. The gravy is that the cop was in uniform and carrying his weapon at the time. Read local paper article.

Could be-may not be, I do not know. I would hate for the innocent family members to read this. I am sorry that this family has been discussed like this IF THEY ARE INNOCENT. I will say this, there are a lot of issues in this county that needs to be addressed. You have heard of the “trickle down” effect. I wonder if the there was a “trickle up” effect, just who would be involved. When the number of people have the same issues, to discuss, that has appeared on this Fits News article, one has to think that “where there is smoke there must be fire.”

By Telling The Truth on December 23rd, 2009 at 10:32 am

Lot of truth in “where there’s smoke there’s fire” and boy it has been a smoking around you know who? More than smoke. We’ve got a full-blown bonfire going.

Think about it. The bomb threat to schools and courthouse last week was supposedly directed at a top law enforcement official and his family. That’s what I was told. Then Hodge’s office. Someone on another article openly accused him of molesting boy scouts. On and on.

If nothing else, do you know what it takes to get FEDS to investigate a small town like this and its officials? Yeah, this county is on fire.

Was at my grandpa’s yesterday on Third Street and saw one of the people mentioned on this website at the home of another who grandpa says use to be a lawyer, but not around here. Grandpa mumbled that they “must be running together now”, he went on to tell me the story behind both of them. He also told me about this website and so I spent two hours reading and am now disgusted. If a percentage of it is true, its enough to warrant some house cleaning. But its like grandpa says, most of these people are too well connected and will probably never see anything come from the investigations, if in fact there are any. It is enough to make me ashamed to tell anyone I’m from this town… I can’t wait to get back to Colorado and be far removed from the arm pit of the south.

I firmly believe if this area could return in a bigger way to agriculture and attracting more of the fine arts, plus put in a movie theatre, skating rink, some kid’s things, this area could be up and doing alright. It could use a big dose of tolerance as well.

I must admit I have a place in my heart for this area, from many of its citizens to the land itself. I hope to see change.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but for the last several months the disgraced ex-solicitor has been at his office bright and early on a consistent basis. Now I know that to us regular people that shouldn’t seem out of the ordinary but according to former solicitor employee’s that worked in that office with him, this is quite news worthy. I think the comment made to me was that this is the first case he’s worked on in the past 12 years preparing for his defense. Thank goodness for us taxpayers that some dead weight is no longer taking advantage of our tax dollars. I’m sure he feels very comfortable with his actions because his right hand woman Safrona has been there with him on a regular basis. I bet the copy machines and receipt books have been getting quite the workout. Good luck to both of them. The one person I feel sorry for is his roommate/boyfriend/girlfriend Bill. He’s stayed here with him anticipating his grand inheritance all this time and the sad part is that all that hard work is going to be swept away when the IRS takes everything. Oops, I forgot, he might be in the graybar motel himself for the PTI scam. Good luck to you as well.

Sorry, I forgot to mention some more dead weight lifted from around the good citizens of our county, Safrona Finch. She is no longer getting that freebie of a paycheck that shes been drawing for some time now. Guess all those stories she spread about going back to work really weren’t true. Oh well, I’m sure she’ll land on her feet especially with her network of friends like Hodge, Anderson, and Charles. For all I know, she’s probably been employed by Hodge to work for Mercy Ministries. She’s certainly experienced in spending someone else’s money, namely money set up to help people of this county.

By Pageland Native on January 6th, 2010 at 10:11 am

Or maybe Mrs. Finch can get her old job back at the bank that she used to work at.

By Cheraw native on January 6th, 2010 at 12:03 pm

Pageland native…I don’t think she would qualify for another “loan” from Carolina Bank. Besides, from what I hear, she’s pretty much worn out her welcome with everybody from Pageland all the way to Dillon. I’m sure Hodge wants to keep her close to him, he needs to keep her on his side because she did so much “dirty” work for him and he needs to keep coaching and practicing with her on what to say to the FBI. The fact that she has a hard time getting along with people because of her abrassive personality doesn’t help either.

By in the know on January 6th, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I’ve noticed all the activity around the ex-solicitor’s office but just figured he was getting ready for his new business venture as a real estate company. I guess it’s nothing new to him because of all the elderly people he’s screwed out of their’s while handling their estate. I’m not sure who is involved with him but I heard Rebecca Lewis Clark was going to be one of his salespeople. I guess he and Mryteen Lee couldn’t agree on how to split commissions.

By hwy 9 traveler on January 6th, 2010 at 12:27 pm

Pageland native…I’m sure the she would not qualify for another “loan” from Carolina Bank like the last time she was an employee. Besides, Hodge is keeping her close to him coaching and practicing their stories for when the Feds come. I’m sure he’s convinced his board members at Mercy Ministries that she would be an asset to them and put her on the payroll since she lost her paycheck according to a post above. She’s really worn out her welocme with most people. I guess her charming personality and strong work ethic she exhibited will with the solicitor’s office isn’t going to pay off for her. That last statement was made with a strong hint of sarcasim. She graduated from the Jay Hodge school of taking credit from others hard work just like the master himself does.

I have not read the blogs placed on this web-site for quite some time now because of its content. Frankly, I have been so saddened by the content. This site has proven to be very judgemental and full of malicious gossip. I wish it did not exist. When the FBI investigates the postings and the originators of some of the vicious postings, the authors may find themselves under some serious investigation and face serious consequences.

Let the darkness come to light. God will reveal the truth and many will discover that the attempts to try and convict on this site are malicious attempts to cover their own wickedness in this whole thing. Judge not that ye might be judged. As for the spirituality of our area, you are reaping what you are sowing. If you that complained of our town being religious and not spiritual would actually grace the doors of a church, get on your knees and truly pray for all involved in the investigation, the accusers and the accused instead of posting continuous attacks against the accused, the matter would be resolved and God can reveal to you the truth instead of what you think is the truth. You need to repent and ask for forgiveness.

As for the person or persons that have attacked Safrona Finch, you do not even know her. Many lives have been changed for the better because of her work and her love for young people. Unlike you, she prays for those that falsely accuse and persecute her. That is what God commands us to do in HIS word. She prays that God will have mercy on you. You know God hates a liar. Liars will be cast into the lake of fire. God is her Father and that means she is his daughter. Fathers are very protective of their daughters. You better watch out, “vengence is mine saith the Lord”.

As for Jay Hodge, isn’t it interesting that after probably 40 years of working with scouts, no charges have ever been filed against him for misconduct. Parents trust him so much that they have allowed him to take their children out of the country. He encouraged many boys to go on and become Eagle Scouts and since have grown into men of great integrity. He has also opened his home every year for a formal dinner for students before the prom. No one talks of his kindness and generosity. Why do we not hear of these good things??? because you have a hidden agenda.

You know King David made mistakes … adultery and murder. He repented and God forgave him and used him greatly in the work of the Kingdom. Jesus even came from the line of David. Forgiveness is key. As for the teachings of Jesus so badly represented, HE taught love and forgiveness. He even said love your enemies as you would yourself. Some of you really love yourselves a lot. You need to share some of that love and follow the teachings of Jesus. He even asked God to forgive the ones responsible for hanging him on a cross because according to him they didn’t know what they were doing. I think many of you that post here, don’t know what you are doing either.

As for the originators of the post on this site, I believe many of the post are from the same person using different pseudonyms. This person is evil with an agenda more wicked than any politician. You may have have political aspirations yourself or maybe you wanted Safrona’s job. I perceive jealousy, revenge and maliciousness in so many of these postings.

Repent this day. God is quickly to forgive. Pray that God will resolve this with HIS wisdom, mercy and grace. Forgive others. God’s forgiveness is dependent on how you forgive. God cannot work on your behalf if you have anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness in your heart. God hates strife. Quit stirring up strife.

If you cannot find it in your heart to do the things I mentioned above, I like Safrona will pray that God has mercy on you. HIS judgement is true and can be hard.

I submitted my comments and got a message that my comment is awaiting moderation. Are you fair? Do you publish comments that are from a different viewpoint or is this just a “SMEAR SITE”?? If I see my comments posted, I will know….I hope I this is truly a fair site.

By Pageland Native on January 7th, 2010 at 2:13 pm

Welcome to the conversation Rev. Charles. I have a question though. Why would anyone want Safronas old job just driving around in a old red van doing whatever Jay told her to?

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 7th, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Thanks for the compliment of calling me Rev! I am just a good spiritual christian that believes strongly in prayer and justice “Mr. or Ms. Pageland Native”. Perhaps it is time for you to pull your head out of the sand. There is a motive behind the attacks on Safrona. To say that there isn’t a hidden agenda, is a lie in itself. Perhaps you are not the one that wants her job, however, you may be jealous of the job she did. Check with some of the parents that had children in hopeless situations that have turned their lives around because of her intercession. To belittle her position is comparable to saying a good preacher only works three hours a week. You really are clueless. I know for a fact that my preacher puts in more hours than the majority of people with secular jobs. Safrona put in hours that were way beyond the call of duty. This does not include the hours of prayer for the young people in trouble.

Perhaps, if one of these young people had been your child, you would have prayed for a person such as Safrona Finch that was not just doing a job, but looking for alternatives, showing love and mercy, not seeing a hopeless situation, but looking for a window of hope. Perhaps she drove a van that you would not have been caught dead driving, but she believes in making a difference in the lives of children and she would have driven a rusty old truck if she could spare a young person and turn their life around.

She has sown a seed of hope in the lives of many. Sure some seed may have been eaten by the enemy, but most of her seed was sown on very fertile gound and is now producing good fruit. What about you? You are sowing seeds of discord, evil, gossip, lies and negative thoughts and deeds. She will reap hope for the seeds of hope she has sown. What do you think you will be reaping????? May God have mercy on you!

I’ll say this in response to Darkness Will Come to Light: I hope it does. The truly dark things.

Those accused have had no problem running smear campaigns and far worse things.

Don’t forget about that little thing called justice in this salacious drama.

No one need be too surprised or too upset by what may come next. It’s been a long time coming. Too many blind eyes have been turned. Too many people have lost too much.

By Light Will Expose Darkness on January 7th, 2010 at 5:14 pm

to: Darkness Will Come To Light,

Mighty profound observation you have there.. and as for people using pseudonyms.. did you not just do the same thing yourself? And why? Because you are not so sure that the accused is innocent are you? But anyway, it is clear that you have fallen victim to the propaganda that the accused(s) camp is putting out. So be it, whomever you are. You can hide behind the curtain of religion if you want, but it ain’t gonna keep’em out of jail.

By Private Eyes on January 7th, 2010 at 5:18 pm

Just who is “Darkness Will Come To Light”? Whomever it is must be madly in love with the aforementioned. Safrona… is that you?

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 7th, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Please accept my sympathy for your personal loss. I sense your extreme bitterness. Bitterness is like a cancer in your heart that can destroy you. The only cure is forgiveness. Please pray every day that God will teach you to forgive.

Let me give you a word of caution. If you know something first hand (seeing or hearing it yourself)it is fact. If you repeat information that you have only heard or read from another, there is a strong possibility that it could be fiction. Sharing negative information whether fact or fiction is gossip. Gossip is a sin. People have tried to share gossip with me. As they start saying the things they have heard or made up, I stop them by grasping their hand and say let’s say no more … instead let’s pray about it. Reluctantly, they went through the motions of praying but they were not happy about it and never came to me again with gossip because they did not want to pray … they wanted to gossip … to destroy someone (murder by tongue). The answer to rid yourself of this sin is prayer. You ask God to change you, to open your eyes and your heart about the situation. I repeat this only because it is critical to you. Again, ask HIM to teach you to forgive.

If you are called as a witness, then of course you must tell the UNBIASED truth. If you need someone to vent your frustrations or just to listen, talk to God. HE can handle it and you will not be guilty of destruction by your tongue. The only thing we are required to do is pray for our enemy … those that persecute us and to love them as ourselves. HE will fight your battles.

The tongue can be a wicked thing. The Bible tells us that we can use it to speak life or death. What if you discover there is very little truth in the things that have been said, you have killed (destroyed)reputations, names, relationships and in some cases families by your words. Again, you are guilty of murder. Their life has been taken away because of what you have said. The Bible tells us that the tongue is like a two-edge sword. Do not let your tongue cut you off from God. Remember one thing, Jesus can resurrect the dead. He is the restorer of life. The righteous(the forgiven)shall rise and be restored. You will find examples of this all through the Bible.

By in the know on January 7th, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Darkness..after reading your posts it is obvious that you believe in Safrona and her version of the story. That is your right. Let me point out some things from the other side of the coin. I can assure you that if her past co-workers could speak regarding her work ethic and history you would get a much different opinion regarding her dedication. Did she pray for young people? If she says so then I will not doubt but to elevate her to sainthood is a little premature. Safrona has been involved in lots of underhanded things. If she truly is the Christian you claim her to be then let her come forward, tell the truth, and ask the people of this county for our forgiveness as taxpayers. Let her explain the silverware, the trip to Europe and early return, the home renovation…this is just the tip of the iceberg all paid out of solicitor funds. She knows the truth and God knows the truth. If she can parade around and proclaim innocence, HE will deal with that at a later date.

As for Hodge and his goodness, you really crossed the line there. To say he had dinner guests out of generosity, the solicitor’s office paid those tabs. Just another way to insure votes by smoozing the next generation. He is an evil man, a man who laughed regarding the little girl from Marlboro Cty who was being molested by the church deacons and never prosecuted. His comment was she must have liked it because she kept coming back. Do some research on the Boy Scout deal and you will be surprised. The person who was convicted ended up committing suicide before he could implicate anyone else. Why would the charter be moved from the Presbyterian to Methodist? Do you really belive that all these comments would be made and actions taken if there weren’t reasonable doubt. For that matter, the complaints would have had to go through the solicitor’s office and who do you think controlled there dispositions.

Again, if you want to believe in them, that’s your right. Just be prepared because anyone with any kind of common sense would be able reason that with all these outcry’s something isn’t right. No offense to your pray instead of talk method but I think not enough talking has been going on around here for to long. The people of this county need to be more vocal and bring underhanded deals into the light. Only then will fairness and justice be for every citizen

By Kershaw Street Native on January 7th, 2010 at 9:46 pm

Things are really starting to get heated on this here website again. I know one thing, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, why else would people keep leaving comments after all this time. I have another question too for Darkness, when is the last time you saw Mr. Hodge in a church on Sunday morning? I might not be a preacher like you but I know my bible too and Mr. Hodge has done his best to cause conflict among the people of this county, like Isiah 19:2 says, And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians, and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbor, city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

By Laura Campbell on January 7th, 2010 at 10:56 pm

If someone has molested children, I hope they get the justice they deserve. If caught in the act, they should receive the death penalty. I don’t know if the above mentioned person is guilty, but last year a Marlboro County top law enforcement person confessed to the molestation of young boys training in a jr. law enforcement program. Confessed. By having such a position, he made it very possible for many other child molesters and sex offenders to flourish in the area. How many people knew that about him and used it to their benefit?

Anyone not believe it’s a horrible crime deserving such punishment? Go ask the kids in psychiatric hospitals and counseling centers about it. Ask the survivors.

I do have to wonder about the incident all those years ago at a certain local establishment. What was the assault truly for?

Certain people are risking a lot by stating outright the specific crime and specific name. One would be inclined to believe that the peron/persons knew well that the FBI, and anyone in the entire world, could read it.

By Been There on January 8th, 2010 at 8:23 am

Darkness:

You are very blinded and naive or involved with the alleged. The word of the Bible is true and should be accepted with awe and wonder. As stated above “where there is smoke there is fire.” As a victim myself of being molested, as a child by a homosexual pedophile, there is a shame involved. This shame is produced by the thoughts of how a vile human garbage chose to please himself and leave a child feeling full of guilt over a very un-natural wicked sex act. Most violated people are too ashamed to share this act. If Mr. Hodges is guilty of this, I really have no idea of guilt or innocence, then I hope that one brave person will come forth and state the facts. Then others may come forth and then we will get to see his face on the SC Sex Offender website. As far as real names not being used, do not be dumb enough to think that retribution will not occur. As far as the FBI investigating these blogs, there is no reason to unless a threat is made and then they should be investigated. Enough said from me.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 10:26 am

Darkness – You are not the only one that has ever been molested. Now I understand your anger and bitterness. I have been there personally. Now, I have been healed of the hurt and shame by the very methods I have been telling you about … prayer, forgiveness and love. God is the only one that can help you to be free again. I left the fate of my abuser in the hands of God.

Again, unless you have first-hand knowledge of the abuse, you are slandering a man’s name and reputation. Slander is illegal and those guilty of slander can be prosecuted. Slander is also a sin. As for Mr. Hodge, I am not sure he would know me if he saw me, but I believe in the principle of our legal system that we are innocent until proven guilty. I believe trials should be conducted in a courtroom – not the press or on a web site. How else can we say justice has been served? If you have the evidence to be a witness for the prosecution, present it to the authorities and save your testimony for the courtroom.

You flatter me by calling me a preacher, I am just a christian living by the grace of a forgiving and loving God. I have a friend that was falsely accused. The friend lost everything … job, family, home and respect in the community. Sixteen years later, the one that accused him confessed that it was all a lie that the mother made them do. The confession will not restore all that was lost, but God can and has. Those that believed and persecuted this friend (just as so many are doing on this site) are ashamed to ask forgiveness of my friend for the rumors that were told by them. My friend is a great Christian and forgave them without their asking. GOD brought the restoration and now my friend owns a business that is extremely prosperous, has respect within the community, and is very happy. I have watched some of the accusers and gossip mongers – some of them have lost their home, their jobs and their families. Some of them are addicted to drugs and some of them have children that are out of control and on drugs. Are they reaping what they sowed??? My friend was innocent and the truth is now well known.

Jesus was falsely accused and put to death. He rose again and forgave them. What about Saul who was later renamed Paul. He had the blood of the innocent on his hands. He repented, was forgiven and authored many of the books of the New Testament. Darkness – step into the light. Read all through the Bible examples of forgiveness and love. God is the healer and restorer. God loves you and wants to heal your hurt.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 10:52 am

To: In The Know – If you go back and read what you have submitted, you will find that you have admitted to gossip. You are repeating what you or someone else heard from a co-worker. You do not even know if this is true unless you are the co-worker. Unless you were on the Presbyterian Board or the Boy Scout Council, you most likely do not have all the facts regarding the transition from one church to another. Here is another fact for you, the dinners held by Mr. Hodge were being held before he ever became a solicitor. Did you ever think to ask if parents were involved with these dinners? Did you ever think to ask if some may have helped pay for the food? Mr. Hodge opened his home freely and unconditionally. Oh you are so quick to judge. Maybe you should be JUDGE THINKS HE KNOWS.

I have not been to Safrona’s home and so I have not seen any renovations or silver. In my experience, one invites close friends into their home. If you have been there and seen these things then I can only guess that you were once a friend that has now become a vindictive and/or jealous enemy. If you were not a close friend, then you either have privy to invoices and cancelled checks proving your accusations (which would place you in that office as a co-worker)or you are just spreading gossip that may not be true at all. If you have facts or proof, save it for a courtroom. If not, you could be guilty of slander which is against the law and a SIN.

As for sainthood, according to the Bible all that have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are saints. So you see, you can become a saint too. Just repent of your sins, ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 11:21 am

Cheraw Native – Who is Charles? Private Eyes – no I am not Safrona? I cannot imagine her ever entering anything on this site. When you hear from her, it will be within a proper setting. She relies on Jesus Christ to be her defender. Why should she step into a den of vipers?

As for Safrona’s association with Mr. Hodge, a true friend is there for you even in times of trouble. The enemy flees like a coward. The only reason I ventured here was to see how many true Christians are here. You know, we are known by the fruit that we bear … but maybe you are not familiar with the fruits of the Spirit in God’s word. Anyway, I think that some of the fruit here is just rotten and in deep need of the salvation of Jesus Christ.

By Been There on January 8th, 2010 at 11:29 am

Darkness Will Come To Light:

I am not angry, hurt or bitter, it is something that I have accepted that occured due to the vile nature of such mentally unstable people. It was not aimed at me personally. The act was to satisfy a “sick mind” that craved such needs. There is forgiveness and then there is justice. I did not accuse Mr. Hodge. I am just stating, as others, that “where there is smoke, there is a fire.” This type of adverse sexual behavior needs to be addressed swiftly and justly; either by psychiatric care or imprisonment for the crime against the very core of nature and the God of our creation. Too many innocent children have been abused and left to deal with it alone. I have not referred to you as a preacher or anything else. You are just another person venting your thoughts. I will give you a thought-I have seen so many, like yourself, brow beat people with the word of God to appease themselves and flaunt their knowledge of the inspired word of God. I have also seen the victim of such browbeating turn away from our Creator and Father and refused a relationship with Him. So as you address issues and “toss out” scripture–be sure that you are doing it as God inspires you.

By Private Eyes on January 8th, 2010 at 11:39 am

It is you… how you doing? Haven’t seen you in a while, hear you been hanging with the same friends. Haven’t learned a thing have you. Well, I for one have enjoyed your posts.. I really get a lot out of the “biblical information” you’ve posted. Its funny how life can deal us a blow and suddenly we are looking to Jesus or Buddha for inspiration and guidance. Enough small talk, anyway, what are you doing now? Where you working?

By Laura Campbell on January 8th, 2010 at 1:16 pm

You left the fate of your abuser in God’s hands? Well, let’s just shut down the entire justice system and let folks rape kids, murder, whatever it is they’d like to do and just pray. Let’s build more prisons and hospitals while we’re at it, because with your approach, they’ll be needed.

Besides, it’s not what Jesus, since you mention him, ultimately did anyway. He went into the temple and angrily addressed the corrupt leaders. He turned over tables. He got thrown into jail. He was nailed to a tree. He thought it was that important.

While I do not plan on any violent action, I will address this through the legal system. Two kids don’t have a mother or father because of corrupt individuals in local government. Doing nothing is not an option.

By in the know on January 8th, 2010 at 2:45 pm

Darkness…I applaud you for being such a friend, you seem to have a lot of anger as well. I have friends that are involved with all this mess, worked around and with Safrona. My accusations, as you call them, come from people who know first hand not from a booth at Bojangles.

All I can tell you is that if Safrona can look you in the eye and tell you she has done no wrong while with the solicitor’s office, her judgement will come later from someone much greater than our legal system.

Jealousy and vindictiveness are not motives here, bringing darkness into the light is. Corruption has been at the heart of the political arena in this area for to long. You of all people should use your influence to bring about the truth that will lead to forgiveness, unless your stature has been afforded to you by allegence to Hodge and protecting him protects you. How would you know such intimate details regarding the dinners if you weren’t a close friend? Are you sure you aren’t the person that Hodge used to quip- he’s known you so long that the only job women llke her had was changing babies diapers.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Laura Campbell – I did not say that the abuser was not punished. I am saying that I prayed for God to take care of it and I let go of it instead of allowing it to eat at me and turn me into a bitter person. The system will work if you will allow it to work. You cannot be the victim, the judge, jury and carry out the sentence as well.

As for as Jesus getting angry at the temple, you need to read that story again. There were theives set up in the church, exchanging money with the people for less that its true value so that the people could pay their tithes and offerings (the 10 percent that belongs to the Lord). He was mad because the people were being cheated in the house of God.

You also missed the whole purpose of Jesus’s death and resurrection. He died that ALL might be saved. The first person in heaven was the theif that was beside him on the cross. GOD’S love and mercy is just that great.

As for as I know, the main parties being condemned so much on this site are not responsible for taking a mother or father away from their children. Neither have I heard of a mother or father losing their lives because of any of these individuals. That does not validate or negate your accusation. It just means, I do not have first-hand knowledge of any such charges and to discuss this would be gossip.

I commend you for not planning any violent action and your plan to allow the system to work in your situation. Thus said, I assume you will no longer contaminate the case with postings on this site that might prove
to be prejudicial to your case. I commend your wisdom.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 3:22 pm

Been There – I apologize sincerely if you think that I have been “brow-beating” anyone. I should have asked you if you were there and witnessed the events first hand. If so, that would explain so much of your frustration. If not, I find it hard to comprehend your feelings about something that may be totally or partially false. What do think you will do or how will you feel if you discover this was all just a political game of destruction masterminded by people that just don’t like these people. Just because you don’t like someone or disagree with someone is no reason to destroy their lives. What if this was you? What if no matter what the truth happened to be, people chose to believe the lies. If you were in this situation, I believe that you would cry out to God as well.

My purpose in entering comments on this site is to make you think. What has happened to you personally that you have allowed such hatred, bitterness and anger to enter into your heart? What effect is this having on you? Are you seeking justice and truth or a vendetta?

You don’t know where I have been. I have been filled with bitterness to the point that no one wanted to be around me. My personality and even my appearance changed. My joy was torn right out of me. Bitterness and anger can destroy you. I know this because it almost destroyed me. As for turning back, by God’s grace that will never happen. I owe the very breath I breathe to the God I serve. He has spared my life four times – of that I am absolutely sure. I owe HIM everything.

The scriptures are my life-line to my GOD of love, mercy, grace and forgiveness. It lives within me because HIS word is life and power. My heart has been changed by HIM. My desire is for everyone to have this inside of them…to be like HIM …loving, merciful, gracious and forgiving. I am still growing in my walk with the Lord, but I try to share what I learn along the way.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Private Eyes – I feel quite sure you have never laid eyes on me … nor I you. You see, I don’t know a lot of people that Safrona of Jay know. I have never moved in the same circles. My political experience ended in 1971 while working for a state elected official. It was in that person’s office that I heard the elected official joke about some of the nasty and wrong things that he took part in to destroy another candidate. Never would I have suspected such underhanded acts to be done by a candidate that I supported and believed in with my whole heart. That was the end of politics for me.

I am glad you have enjoyed the scriptures. God tells us that HIS WORD will not come back void. Perhaps I will hear from you someday how some of it touched your heart and changed your life. Working in the ministry has allowed me to rejoice when hearts and lives have been changed.

As far as my pseudonym – you seemed to be enjoying the anonymity so I thought I would give it a try…it is quite entertaining. As for as propaganda … I hear the pot calling the kettle black. Of one thing I am sure, I am a light in the darkness. That is what each of us should try to be. To become a light, you must draw closer to the SON. A light does not have to speak, but shine and the things hidden in the dark will be revealed.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 5:16 pm

In The Know – Jay has been doing the prom thing for years. I know children that are now adults that have been dinner guest. Some of them are now lawyers, teachers and leaders in the communities where they live. You can tell about someone by the fruit he bears. I know the children that he has influenced. I see and hear from them the impact he made in their lives. Am I his friend, no … but I think I would like to be. I know there is goodness in the man just as I know there is goodness in Safrona. I have seen some of her fruit – children that have become wonderful husbands and fathers – some that have grown into awesome men and women.

Speaking well of someone is a good thing. The Bible teaches us that we are to lift up and encourage one another. My Grandmother used to say “if you can’t say something good about someone, keep your mouth shut.” This is something I try to practice. Gossip by any other name is still the same. If you are talking negatively about someone to others instead of prayerfully to God, you are a gossip. What you are saying would never be allowed in a courtroom because it is heresay. You do not have first hand knowledge. Be real and let the justice system run its course.

As for corruption in politics, it exist everywhere and you can see evidence of this in the Bible. That does not make it right, but that is why we have a system to bring about accountability. It may not be perfect, but if allowed, it can work. My allegiance is to God and truth. Even murderers are entitled to a fair trial. There is such bias here that a fair trial and judgement will have difficulty prevailing in the situation. Angry, not me … heartbroken for what this is doing to our town and those involved. The smoke that everyone says is coming from a fire is actually from the firy darts your have released on this site and by gossips. My heart breaks for those being accused so publicly and denied the rights of a fair trial. It reminds me so much of Jesus … his accusers knew how to work the crowd and keep things stirred up to a fevered pitch.

Here is something for you to think about … the Plege of Allegiance to the Flag …where it says one nation under God with liberty and justice for ALL. Where is this justice? You see one side —your side as justice … it says justice for ALL! Allow the system to work.

To Darkness Will Come To Light,

WTF? Sounds like you be needing some celebrity rehab cause of some of the things you saying. I don’t know how they do things on the east side of Chesterfield, but down here when people start talking like you are, men in white suits show up. By the way, whatever you’re smoking… its working. Your plan to posts your religious ramblings on this blog are only enciting responses. If you think for a moment you’ll silence people, you are badly mistaken. You are only giving reason for more to watch and post. It is obvious that you are not working (wonder why), because of the amount of time you are spending on this website. So my suggestion, for what its worth, is to maybe hit the unemployment line. So long.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Private Eyes – You need a new GPS System. I am far from Chesterfield. You are so silly! Well PTL (Praise The Lord!), I pegged you right. Your intro let me know that you do need Jesus. I know your Mama taught you better. If you are who I think you are, your Mother and I have been friends for years. We have prayed together many times. She is an awesome woman that did her best to bring you up in church just as her Mother brought her up in church. Her mother was so strict. Yes, I knew your Grandma quite well too. She has been with the Lord for quite some time now. I know your intro would break her heart. In fact, if you are who I think you are, I was acquainted with your dad’s Mother too.

As for smoking – never have had the desire to do that … I was around too many people that smoked when I was a child. You might can identify with that. I never saw your Mama smoke but if I remember correctly, your Grandma on your daddy’s side smoked a right good bit.

I believe I must type and think much faster than you because I can post in a just a couple of minutes and get right back to work. You know what else … when you are attacking me, it gives someone else a break. Oh, by the way, I am not religious … I am spiritual and my comments are complete – not incoherent ramblings. I have no need of unemployment – PTLA (PRAISE THE LORD AGAIN!). GOD IS SO GOOD TO ME!!! I have a job that glorifies the God I serve. I just love HIM so much! You couldn’t ask for a better boss.

I do so enjoy posting to this “Blog” because you are quite entertaining. Oh well, I have had enough fun for today. Get your sunshades out …Darkness is coming to light! The SON is shining. PTLA! (Just in case you forgot, that means PRAISE THE LORD AGAIN!)

By Private Eyes on January 8th, 2010 at 7:18 pm

To Darkness Will Come To Light,

Speaking of grandmas, If I remember correctly, it was your grandmother that had an affair with the preacher, and oh yes… the SON was shining back then. Anyway enough on that subject, let the dead rest. You appear to have a great deal of confidence in yourself so that tells us a few things about you and from the content of your posts, you have a certain level of intelligence or either somebody is telling you what to post, in which case I take back the confidence comment. One more thing, I think its great that you and my mother have been friends for years, but wait a minute, how could that be? My mother has been dead for over 3 years now. Oh yeah, tell your daughter I can’t make it tonight, I’m on call. MMLA.. just in case you don’t know that is, its an acronym for Make Me Laugh A**hole.

Darkness Will Come To Light:

You are obviously reading and understanding just what suits you. I think that my prior entry was explicit in saying that I was not angry or bitter about past events. Every entry that you have posted above is using the Bible to bash. Once again, you will turn folks away from our Creator. I am out of this conversation and interpret this blog anyway that you want. I want to see justice and fairness return to Chesterfield county for all of the good citizens.

By Private Eyes on January 8th, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Well, it never ceases to amaze me at the minute level of intelligence displayed on this blog. While I fought against my inner self to withhold any comment, I can no longer resist. I will say this, there is certainly an amount of truth to some of the comments made on this blog, otherwise, the FBI would not be wasting their valuable time to pursue an investigation, given the huge amount of crime we have in our nation. Secondly, it never fails.. the persons against whom an investigation is conducted usually put up a screen to take the attention away from themselves, furthermore, they will say anything to enrage the accusers or anyone cooperating in an investigation in an effort to make them “slip up” or “out” some information, IE: the “Darkness Will Come To Light” author. It is their thought process that by doing so, it will throw the “feds” off their trail. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows that only works in the movies. To Private Eyes, don’t engage conversation with “Darkness Will Come To Light”, rise above it. If they find out who you are, you’ll be subjected to their vicious attacks on yourself, your family and anything your’e associated with, believe me, I know, my friend is battling a similar situation in Lamar with people of the same mentality. Their adversary had been in power for years and done much of anything they desired. Only one day his manipulations were tried on a worthy opponent, and then a battle ensued and while my good friend is being subjected to childish and questionable actions from the adversary, it will be through his persistence that will bring, if I may use the expression, “will bring darkness to light”. I know the inter workings of matters surrounding the subjects of these posts and you can rest assured, their spirits will be quietened very soon.

By Been There on January 8th, 2010 at 8:21 pm

By Private Eyes:

Great thought and excellent content my dear friend, whomever you are. I could have not expressed your entry any better. I totally agree. ‘Nuff said from me

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 8th, 2010 at 8:30 pm

Let me think … is it love, mercy or forgiveness that will turn people away from the Lord? NO NOT THAT. Perhaps it is truth or justice? NOT THAT … if they are honest with themselves. Perhaps those being accused are not the only ones being investigated. Oh be careful little mouths what you say and tread softly little fingers on that keyboard.

This “investigating” propaganda is starting to get very old. No one is going to investigate anyone else on this or any other blog site unless a serious threat is made and then it should be. Anyone that makes such statements are using scare tactics to “hush” the truth, ideas or thoughts. To all bloggers, “KEEP STIRRING THE POT”. There may be some ill conceived ideas posted BUT there are a lot of post that is truth inspired. There is strength in numbers and unity. If you feel more comfortable using a pseudonym – then do so. It is better to a pseudonym than become an “outlaw” because of you thoughts and ideas. Just remember the guilty can enter blogs on this site and may try to cause disunity among the truth seekers. We are all bringing “Darkness To Light”. When the Light doe shine, I hope that it is swift and just. Great blog and hats off to you “Suddenly Sassy”

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 11th, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Just keep on stirring and cooking. You should be super chefs at cooking up stuff by now. You know if you cook stuff too long it tends to burn. By the way Sassy, I live no where near Jackson Road or Chesterfield. I am living in temporary quarters while I am doing what I have to do. Are you getting paranoid or something? The Lord’s work keeps me quite busy.

By An Observer on January 11th, 2010 at 9:52 pm

I have noticed some contradictory or confusing statements by “Darkness Will Come To Light”. Example, he/she leads us to believe that she is fortunate to not have to work, yet, most of her comments on this website are during business hours, Monday thru Friday? He/She also wants us to believe that he/she is not connected to the accused, with statements like “i’m not sure he would know me if i walked past” but in other comments, he/she gives so many specifics about them, you would think he/she is forever in their presence. He/She further states that “the Lord’s work keeps me quite busy”, yet, he/she is spending quite a bit of time on this website. And whats with all the religious verbage? Your comments are so laced with bitterness and spite, that the religious tone is almost comical. Not that any of it matters to me. Its amusing that small towns are not immune to these type scandals, here in Charlotte, we are witness to them over and over again. They blow up and fizzle out and leave lots of damage in their wake. Maybe I should seek a job like “Darkness Will Come To Light” has… spending all my time on the internet during business hours and justifying it with “religious propaganda”.

okay!

Reverend Dianna Charles can kiss my white ass. If there is anyone that deserves to be fudgepacked by Jay Hodge it is her. Only while Jackie Ellerbe video tapes it. What is really amusing is that people constantly slandar individuals on here, who are irrivellant to the investigation. The facts are that everyone in leadership here suck at their jobs. You have Cpt. Keith Thomas knocking up half-nigger chicks who sell and distribute his crack for him. Also, the Chief of police isn’t much to brag on either. He sleeps around for favors as well. We can’t forget the 4th circuit group…. Hodge is a piece of shit, that packs the fudge with fudgefatass Rev. Charles. He also gives legal advice to sluts, whores, and hoes whom uses people for anything that benefits themselves. I am so sick of the faggots here too. Why don’t you all just pack up your shit and move to San Fran. No one wants you here, in fact why don’t all you high school graduates only club, trying to be high class get a damn life. I love to see all these low shit people, trying to be high class. Half you bounce checks all the time, can’t pay your damn bills. Laura Campbell you should start your own blog, that would be awesome.

Mr. Baskins,

Were you being sincere or should I take your suggestion as an insult? It’s so hard to tell the difference around here.

By Oh My!!!!! on January 13th, 2010 at 7:31 am

I do appreciate this blog site regardless of the correctness in accusations. But, I must admit that the blog that was entered yesterday, at 6:54 p.m.is too much. Sure we are all entitled to our thoughts and ideas, right or wrong. However, for someone to write such a foul languaged blog, he/she must be very illiterate or using someone else’s name to make vile statements, regardless of correctiveness or accuracy. This crude type of entry does take the spotlight off of the subject at hand. I probably should not have stooped “so low” as to even respond to such trash, but this has to be stated.

By My Oh on January 13th, 2010 at 8:24 am

to “OH MY!!!!!”,

Funny, I see Calvin Baskins as someone who is very frustrated real life, made for tv drama that has unfolded. But, just as we all have rump holes, you are entitled to your opinion and I mine.

By Darkness Will Come To Light on January 13th, 2010 at 9:44 am

Baskins – no class whatsoever. Who could take anyone serious that uses such vile language. I’ve always been told that use of such language is a sign of ignorance. While this has been entertaining for a time, I am bored and moving on to other things. Be sure that “Darkness Will Come To Light” and some are going to be surprised by the turn of events.

By Oh My on January 14th, 2010 at 7:36 am

My Oh:

You are absolutely correct about frustration. I think that it is apparent, from the entries on this website, that there are a lot of frustrated people in this area. This is related to high unemployement, low or no education and a small entourage of people that are self consumed in their own desires and needs. THIS HAS GOT TO CHANGE. The only change that can happen is when this small “coven” is removed from power, regardless of their position. A vision is needed, from someone, to improve this oppressed community, with out self gain. The only problem that I have with Calvin/Charles Baskin’s entry is the foul approach. How can anyone take such a vile worded entry serious? If this person represented all of the wonderful people in this county, he would make a laughing stock out of all of us. As stated above, this type of language is indicative of ignorance.

BEST POEM IN THE WORLD

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven’s door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, ‘What’s the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake.

‘And why is everyone so quiet,
So somber – give me a clue.’
‘Hush, child,’ He said, ‘they’re all in shock.
No one thought they’d be seeing you.’

JUDGE NOT!!

Remember…Just going to church doesn’t make you a
Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

Every saint has a PAST…
Every sinner has a FUTURE!

By Another Opinion on January 14th, 2010 at 9:51 am

I heard an individual state that he fully supports one of the accused in law enforcement because the accused had helped him get out of trouble.

This type of attitude is as big a problem as anything else. What is the accused engaging in while allowing folks to get away with god knows what?
Great way to stay in office, though.

I suppose, per the above statement, that lots of people are beyond frustrated.

By in the know on January 14th, 2010 at 7:49 pm

Darkness, put down the pipe and step away. You truly don’t believe that Hodge will come out of this smelling like a rose do you? If so, then you have been smoking to long. If nothing else good comes of this whole mess it will be that his reputation is ruined around this district. Wait and see how his political allies begin to distance themselves from him. Just like “another opinion” said above, the only ones that are hanging on are ones that have something to hide in all of this.

Be careful getting to involved with him. His promises of greater things to come will never be. How has your blonde house mother been treating you lately?

By Another Opinion on January 17th, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Perhaps the state will consider building a psychiatric hospital in area. The jails are full. By the time folks are done dealing with the crooks, aka Chesterfield County Government, they’ll need at least a short stay.

To one local official with hopes of political gain and moving up the ladder: Is about everyone who has dirt on you in prison by now? You really need to do something about the folks “you’ve helped out of trouble”, though. One was at a local hotspot not too long ago babbling away. Real winner, they were. Too bad they couldn’t stay out of trouble with everyone, though.

Guess the house of cards can’t stand anymore weight.

It sickens me the number of people supporting corrupt government around here because it works for them. The above slime worked with kids, of all things. Thanks for keeping em on the street. At least they were forced to resign their position. Maybe someday soon others will too.

By Charlie Baskins on January 17th, 2010 at 5:28 pm

I can’t help but notice of the comments that everyone condemns my free speech. Well, I have you all know I don’t give a shit. I say what is the true facts and what is the truth. If you have a problem with it, let me know. Jay Hodge and his followers who are under the spell of the red koolaide. I mean think of it this way……. these people really are a damage to society. Dianna Charles is a nigger that believes she has rights….. Please you have a damn right to remain silent….Jay Hodge no longer has his notary, his law profession is basically over. He might have a few clients on Chesterfield Hwy. The point is this…. This shit is getting old.

By Another Opinion on January 17th, 2010 at 9:59 pm

The sh*t has been old. What is so amazing to me is that people care more about what is on this blog than what the accused individuals have done.

Then again, it is impossible to tell truth from lies regarding this investigation. But there are those who know what has happened and what certain individuals are capable of.

What I want to know the facts about, and I certainly did not accuse him of this because I simply would not know, are the allegations about Hodge. If anything on this site should be investigated by FBI or any agency, it would seem that would be it.

That said, Charlie Baskins, you do have some awful strong language without specifically stating why you are so angry. Care to share?

By Cheraw native on January 20th, 2010 at 3:28 pm

One would have to wonder if Rep. Doug Jennings alledged involvement with Hodge in the I-95 prostitute sting a few years ago which has been exposed with all this scandel was some of the motivation for him to step aside.

By Another Opinion on January 20th, 2010 at 5:49 pm

I wonder if Spratt and Sheheen had involvement in getting some of this swept under the rug. That’s been mentioned on this site as well.

By Cheraw native on January 20th, 2010 at 8:56 pm

That might be a good question for them to answer directly. You know it is election time. Maybe you should call their campaign offices. I called Spratt’s office to question his involvement with the potential cover-up of Hodge’s situation and the response I got was shocking. They spoke of him as if he had the plague. I guess even politicans draw the line somewhere!

By Cheraw native on January 21st, 2010 at 8:11 pm

I forgot to ask last night, what’s up with Mercy Ministries? I have heard from several people that Hodge had a different marketing scheme with the property across from the armory. Something to do with Lee and Hunter regarding some type of retirement village. If so, that’s quite a change from the intended use of funds set up to help women and children in this area. I guess he does whatever he wants with all that money since you know that Mary Anderson and Rev. Charles aren’t going to stop him. Why don’t they announce their meetings so we in the community can see what they are all about? Anyone has the right to attend since they are a public charity.

By Another Opinion on January 22nd, 2010 at 9:14 pm

There is a reason there is practically no transparency with MM or anything else around here in respective areas. It’s all run by crooks, in my opinion and as evidenced in reporting, and people who support those crooks to further their own agenda or keep themselves out of trouble.

There is an interesting, if not appalling, story floating around about an individual in the higher eschelons of law enforcement and a certain woman he is/was involved with husband’s death (the rumor is staged murder). I would name names but I’ve heard most of the accused have threatened to sue, hence the lack of info. in local media, to a large degree. If the story is factual, I would be terrified to even whisper the name. If the story is factual, there is at least one psycopath in law enforcement, enough to concern me greatly.

Is Jay Hodge still a practicing lawyer?

By Cheraw native on January 29th, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I did some asking around and found out that Hodge was up to his old tricks again. The audacity he has is amazing, and not in a good way. It seems that several checks have been issued to workers lately that are written on Mercy Ministries account. The only problem is that the work wasn’t performed on MM property. Work is being performed on his personal property, something that the men in black are already investigating! I guess he’s just that stupid to think that if nothing has been done so far, he’ll just get back to business as usual. Besides, he knows that none of his board members are actually going to question him. For all we know, MM may be funding projects at their homes as well. Shame that the family that started that foundation did so to help people, not give Hodge and his cronies a personal expense account.

By long time, ex-friend on January 30th, 2010 at 1:29 pm

Jay Hodge is nothing more than a bully and a thug. He was the same now as he was in high school.
He has been able to toss around the money his father made performing thousands of illegal abortions and other underhanded dealings, for his entire life time.
He is a con. Was a good one. Finally someone has been strong enough to out him. No pun intended.
Fell sorry for the people who are doing the right thing by bringing his corruption out into the open. I have heard some of the “Stories” he has been spinning. His Lawyer should tell him to shut up! You sound crazy! Or, maybe that will be his defense!
I hope they put him under the jail.

By Henry Jenkins on February 1st, 2010 at 7:52 am

Does it get any more bizarre than this. My sister and I were having dinner at the Japanese restaurant last week and part of the Michael family, Matt Rivers, and Jay Hodge were also. From what I hear around town, Hodge hates Michael because he thinks he is the one that rolled on him. And my cousin just told me that Hodge eats his own, that he helped Rebecca Clark open her real estate company, so makes one wonder if he and Lee Real Estate’s relationship is now strained and where does Michael fit in? And if Mr. Rivers is cuddling with Mr. Hodge, what does that say about his re-election possibilities cause votes certainly are going to consider his relationships? People, something is just not right around here, and if I hadn’t seen this with my own eyes, I wouldn’t believe it, but come to think of it, what do you believe?

By SIck of it all on February 1st, 2010 at 10:24 am

The reason Matt Rivers is still nursing on Hodges tit- Matt Rivers has A LOT TO HIDE! The same reason Ted Vick still meets with the disgraced, ex-solicitor.Vick must be a little smarter, more ashamed of the association or he just wants to retain his office, a least he is smart enough to meet him in out of the way areas.
As for Rebecca-Lewis Clark. Don’t confuse her for being honest! Or moral!

By Henry Jenkins on February 2nd, 2010 at 5:53 pm

Does it not strike you odd that Michael, Hodge, and Rivers are seen together in restaurant? It defies most everything that has be posted on this website. I have heard that Hodge was gonna put Michael out of business and that Rivers has nothing to do with Hodge anymore and then to hear that the three are going out to eat.. what to believe? It really is confusing.

By Not confused!!!! on February 3rd, 2010 at 7:24 am

Mr. Jenkins:

Do not be confused. Have you noticed how vultures gather together to eat carnage or fight over it? Birds of the same feather, or nature, do flock together. Do be aware, also, that carnivores will eat their own when hungry.

By Henry Jenkins on February 3rd, 2010 at 11:10 am

It keeps getting better, if you want to know anything about what is going on in this town, go to Bojangles in the mornings. I found out today that the former Solicitor is now in private practice and now representing criminals, a sharp contract to his former professional life, so much for believing and trusting in him.

By SIck of it all on February 3rd, 2010 at 3:27 pm

Hodge and Rivers were eating together, behind the curtains, out of sight. Mr. Michaels (senior) was eating at a different table. This is a clear case of how some things said, can be misunderstood.
Yes, it is true vultures are amoung us. I saw it myself, today, at The Hodge Law Firm.

By Cheraw native on February 4th, 2010 at 7:32 pm

I heard today that Hodge has retained high powered atty Dick Harpootlian. If that is true, I have two questions. One, how in the world did he pay the retainer ($100,000) because everyone around here knows that he is almost broke and two, if he has done nothing wrong then why does he have a high dollar mouthpiece?
I also wonder if he and Safona got the package deal since she is now on the Mercy Ministry payroll. Wonder what happened with her return to the solicitor’s office as she had promised her fellow church members? What could she possible be doing for an organization that has nothing going on? What a great group of board members with a keen sense of checks and balances!

By henry jenkins on February 5th, 2010 at 9:31 am

Well if thats the case, then i would say that the general public should be in an outrage. If this non-profit has no source of income and no purpose, why would they have payroll. Wouldn’t their records be available to the public? Or better yet, why doesn’t the public get engaged and call the non-profit demanding accountability.

By Another Opinion on February 5th, 2010 at 10:44 am

People are outraged. They are more concerned and confused about the fact that many of the accused here are walking around as if they have no problem in the world.

The local papers report what they can but at least one of them is concerned over a possible lawsuit if they don’t report anything but facts.

If one goes to the courthouse trying to find documents, it’s difficult to say the least. If I were in the accused’s shoes and had done no wrong, I would be making all documents available to the public.

The FEDS are at least doing something, else the meth-cooking cop would never have been arrested. You know, Parker just missed that one.

All I can reckon is that everyone should just sit back and get comfortable because this is going to take awhile.

As far as government locally, statewide, or nationally, folks need to attend council meeting, write letters, whatever, and hold them accountable.

By Cheraw native on February 5th, 2010 at 12:31 pm

henry, they don’t need a source of income. they have a major bankroll (1.5 million plus) left behind to them from the trust the Locke-Little family setup. only problem is that hodge has the controlling interest with anderson and charles as board members to keep him in check. do you really think thats going to happen? safrona’s just sucking on that fund as well and i’m sure hodge lets her because he needs to keep her close to keep her away from the feds. she knows as much about the corruption as anyone and stands to go down with him! i feel certain he has his boyfriend on the payroll as well, why else would his car be seen almost everyday at the disgraced ex-solicitors office? i guess hodge supporters would say that out of the goodness of his heart he has kept overcash employed since the solicitors office fired him and he has no place else to go. what a good person this hodge fellow is, good at spending someone else’s money!!

Folks ought to lay off the Michaels. They are good people, they’re just willing to fight fire with fire, suprisingly without lowering their standards to those with whom they stand toe-to-toe. They are devoutly Christian, but still are willing to be steamrolled. That’s admirable.

By Hwy 9 traveler on February 10th, 2010 at 1:25 pm

I can’t help but believe “jay fudge” is an alias for Bill Overcash. The language and statements certainly fit his character. He’s probably mad with Hodge since his allowance has understandably been reduced. For all we know, Hodge may even be charging him rent these days. One things for certain, the solicitor’s office isn’t paying for his tech school fees as Hodge did when he was in office. Oh, and by the way, don’t insult tree frogs like that. They don’t get to make choices regarding their associations, Anderson does.

I just read the article in the Link regarding the lady facing eviction and do hope there will be a resolution that benefits everyone. The part of the story that made me sick to my stomach was Hodge and his comments. In my opinion, your actions over the past 12 years signify you don’t believe in life without zero tolerance. As a matter of fact, it looks as though you have lived your life with no tolerance at all taking advantage of many people along the way and shamefully enough some with similar situations as this lady. The majority of the community knows your self-centered, egotistical nature but for you to grandstand and pander to the public under the pretense of helping someone in need is far above your previous milestones. Here’s a suggestion, if you truly want to help this woman why not let your organization Mercy Ministries provide her shelter. After all, that is what your group is supposed to do with all that money is it not!

By Hwy 9 traveler on February 10th, 2010 at 9:17 pm

To In defence of Overcash, it is so cavalier of you to cum to his rescue. I’m sure it will earn u sum of that good stuff!!! Anyone that has ever been around Overcash knows just how inarticulate he is, excluding his expansive usage of curse words. Don’t forget to tuck him in and give him a kiss goodnight Romeo and by the way, DUKE suxxx!!!

p.s. goodnight to you as well jay

By In defence of Overcash on February 11th, 2010 at 11:47 am

Screw you Hwy 9 traveler! And by the way Duke rules! Also, seems that trouble lingers at a particular former office of which i am familiar, word is that another person has resigned due to some scandal.

By Hwy 9 traveler on February 11th, 2010 at 5:05 pm

In defence of Overcash,

Unusual spelling of defence reminds me of a barrister wanna be I know. Just like something he would do to draw attention to himself much like owning a machine that makes farting noises. Real class, pure and simple.

Undoubtedly one of Hodges’ flunkies that current solicitor will not tolerate. Good for Rogers, noticed the article in the Pageland paper that shows changes being made under his control. Looks as if we have a man in office that is trying to do things the right way, unlike the last administration.

By nquiring mind on February 11th, 2010 at 6:07 pm

not so fast there hwy 9 traveler, from what i’ve been told, this person was well liked by both present and past solicitors. time will show who it was just by recognizing who is showing up at the office.. or not. i can see in chesterfield. not that its really that important, but as the days go by, more people will be talking about it and the grapevine will reveal who and what happened.

By just asking on February 15th, 2010 at 2:26 pm

It appears Mr. Hodge just does not think he is accountable for anything he does. Or that he will not have to face the consequences of his actions.
He and a person I struck up a deal to use Mercy Ministries equipment in a private job opportunity. The deal, as a [presented by Mr. Hodge goes as follows….you use MM equipment (all uninsured or licensed by the state) and He (Hodge) will split the proceeds from the work done with the heavy equipment. He also stated, Hodge told him this was to be “Just between us”! One can only assume, the board is unaware of his newest way to steal from the non-profit!

aw shucks, they wuz just horsin’ around. after all, thats what the ex-solicitor and Safrona Finch did with that very same program (screw people over) and nobody fired them. just another example of the poor standards set forth by the Hodge years, including PTI under Overcash(what a joke). NEWS FLASH TO ALL THOSE WHO AIN’T PAYIN’ ATTENTION. there’s a new sheriff in town and his name is Will Rogers and at least he’s doing his best to clean up the mess that Hodge left him!!

P.S. i think there is some more news getting ready to unfold, wonder when the bojangles crowd will release? maybe it’s coming from that bank just down the street, i heard that he had reliable sources inside Mercy Ministries. i know, that is bizarre to see “reliable” and “mercy ministries” in the same sentence. after all, what do they do in the community besides starve some horses out near the armory.

By Private Eyes on February 17th, 2010 at 2:09 pm

By Isaac Steen on February 17th, 2010 at 6:45 pm

OMG where does this end? Is there no oversight or control within the Solicitor’s offices? First to hear of all the things that the former Solicitor is accused of, and believe me I can see where some of that is very possible, and now under the newly elected Solicitor the sh** keeps piling up, I just left the Japanese restaurant and overheard two gentlemen talking about a Solicitor office employee engaging in some activity not becoming of a lady with the actual prisoners or whatever they are considered. Makes you wonder if this agency has any hope and to think that we the citizens are paying for and enabling this behavior. No wonder we are the arm pit of the state.

By Hwy 9 traveler on February 17th, 2010 at 7:52 pm

Issac, don’t hang this on the current solicitor’s administration. Sometimes it takes a while to find the bad apples in the barrel, they don’t always show their bruises right away. I think our current solicitor has that office moving in the right direction by weeding out these people (and I here another will be following this month). He is choosing to remove employee’s from the solicitor’s offices that seem to be morally and ethically challenged. Good for him, step in the right direction to put faith and trust back into that position. These situations coming up now are ones that your former solicitor(Hodge) and his head of staff (Finch) organized and hired. All Rogers is doing is trying to control and clean up a mess dropped in his lap. Give him credit, he’s making changes as fast as he can. As I said above, he inherited a cluster f*** thanks to Hodge!!! Can you imagine? Your first year in office and here come the FBI investigating the office in which you were just elected. And the ex-solicitor conveniently bows out of the way. Come on people, it doesn’t take an idiot to read between these lines.

By Dripping Faucet on February 22nd, 2010 at 7:40 pm

This “scandal” is like a leaky faucet… it just keeps dripping and dripping and dripping… and the drip is annoying, but apparently not enough to do anything about. Which leads me to this question.. what will it take? There have been accusations of misuse of funds, abuse of power, sexual liaisons, etc. Just what is serious enough for whomever is above the Solicitor’s office and this “ministry” that has been mentioned? Or, is there any truth to it all, is all this just a smokescreen for something else? Either way, it is sad that whomever is in charge to not address these matters whether true or not. If they’re true, then let the public know that something is being done. If they’re not true then DEMAND that this website and others put a halt to this “dripping faucet”. I have a better idea FITS NEWS, why don’t you send one of your reporters to Cheraw and interview some of the past & present board members of the ministry and Solicitor’s office. That way, you get information that is a little more direct from the source instead of some of the sources mentioned above, ie: Bojangles, etc.

By Another Opinion on February 22nd, 2010 at 10:14 pm

Rogers stated he can’t comment on an ongoing investigation. Is there even an investigation anymore? Is it Bojangles in Chesterfield or Cheraw? Nothing but questions and rumors.

By Dripping Faucet on February 23rd, 2010 at 7:08 am

And I therefore refer back to my original post. If there is an investigation or not, there should be someone in leadership to step up and either confirm its existence or silence the murmurs. Meanwhile, this continues to fester and destroy any belief that we the citizens have in our leaders.

By Another Opinion on February 24th, 2010 at 10:28 pm

The Hanky-Panky spoken of on the above posts, the women in question is Carrie Champbell. Too bad, her husband is a great guy.

By Another Opinion on February 25th, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Really? If it’s Kerry, not Carrie, Campbell, I will be very, very surprised. She’s highly educated, not from this county, and I just don’t see her doing this.

However, I have heard from at least one person in drug court that they partied with another female working for solicitor’s office and drug court.

I could be wrong, but I think the facts should be re-checked in this case. I apologize beforehand if I’m wrong.

I will say I could see her being the target of rumors and lies, especially if she’s upset the mighty Campbell family and one of Parker’s guys.

I’m so sick of rumors and lies involving all of this. The local newspapers won’t report anything except for what they’re told by certain individuals. I don’t even bother reading them anymore.

Also, why is there so many rumors to the contrary of what happened the other night when the officer was shot? Is there a 2nd suspect around the age of 18? Were there any eyewitnesses at the scene other than law enforcement? It’s a shame it happned to this particular officer. He wasn’t from here and was probably hired as part of an attempt to clean up CPD. From all appearances, he appears to be a good guy and I’m sorry it happened to him. He and his family are in my prayers.

To any new officers coming into this area, be careful. You’re walking into a snakepit of a department and town. All the way to the top. The dealers and informants around here enjoy a great deal of freedom as well, and I’m not talking about those selling a little bit of weed, I’m talking about those selling the hard stuff.

By just telling on February 26th, 2010 at 11:45 am

We have our ex-solicitor to thank for that guy even being on the streets. He was allowed to plead to an involuntary manslaughter charge for a death over in Bennetsville in which he shot and killed someone. I think he served 4 years and what happens next, he’s riding around our town in a stolen vehicle with drugs and a gun and almost kills one of our officers. Thanks again Mr. Hodge, wonder how you benefited from making that deal with him.

By stop the lies on February 27th, 2010 at 2:17 pm

if our “ex-solicitor” is all that bad then why is he all over the front page of the link this week doing good deeds and helping out that poor lady keep her house? a false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape. proverbs 19:9.

By same ole' thing on February 27th, 2010 at 2:33 pm

First of all, we do not have leaders in this community. We have people who were selected and placed into seats of power, so the power and control could be manipulated for the use of certain individuals; most of all, high ranking law enforcement. Past and present.
Second, you are correct about the local newspapers. They are trash. The main concern of the publisher, sell newspapers. Forget about the truth. The reporters don’t have clue how to properly investigate a story. Even if all parties concerned are interviewed, the reporters still are incapable of relating the story to the readers in the correct manner. I know this for a fact. Been on the receiving side of misinformation printed by both local rags! Once it is printed, it is there for all to consume, even when you get the “correction” printed by the papers, it is so botched, if the readers are more confused than ever. Assuming a person does read the correction. Most often, they do not. Whoever was misquoted, misrepresented, maligned or otherwise just basically lied about, is left being talked about, whispered about, often, their lives are too damaged to be repaired. People love to read tabloid type gossip. Just look at the news stands.

Lastly, education is not a litmus test for fidelity.

It is Ms.Cambell, muliple times.

By justice on February 27th, 2010 at 2:50 pm

People need to remember, in a case such as this, it can takes years to compile the case and present before the court. Folks need to remind them selves, a grand jury has convened and inditments were issued. The courts do not issue inditments unless conclusive evidence was presented to the jury. Arrests are imminent.

Plus, freedom of speech is important and should not be supressed, just because you don’t like what is being said!

By Another Opinion on February 28th, 2010 at 9:33 pm

If what you say is true, justice, why could neither local rag carry this news?

By Cheraw native on March 1st, 2010 at 12:30 pm

stop the lies, the reason is to promote himself. You of all people should know how he panders given your long work history with him. The people deserving credit should be the ones who have helped her all along. It’s just like him to try and bend the rules though. If those dogs could be considered service dogs, then they would have already been registered as such. Besides, I think they are missing their calling according to Roger Owens. Any animal that can run and get help on multiple occasions needs their own TV series (i.e. Lassie). Hodge is really missing a chance to ring up some serious cash for this lady. To bad he’s up to his usual antics of just trying to look out for himself.

Stop the lies, what other good deeds? I refer you to Proverbs 15:7-9. The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. The Lord detests the sacrific of the wicked but the prayer of the upright pleases him. The Lord detests the way of the wicked but he loves those who pursue righteousness.

Indictments can be issued, as in this case, but not served. The governing body (holding the indictments) has the privilege of service when deemed most valuable for the case.

He does deeds for betterment of himself only.
The ONLY reason he goes to church is try to procure votes. Mainly in the African American churches. Of course he attends the other churches for the same reason. Oh, almost forgot, he goes to St. David’s during the BBQ, fund raiser, so he can get all the chicken he can eat for free. He does nothing but grip and grin and eat. Even the church member’s comment that is must be election time for something or someone.

Even he knows he is damaged goods.

“When deemed most valuable for the case”. Or is it “when all accused have had time to cover their rear ends and get rid of evidence”?

Seems to me a lot of people are being attacked personally as a smokescreen to hide what others are doing, as with Kerry Campbell.

I honestly don’t know if she’s been fired or not, or if what has been said above about her is true, but I don’t believe it. It’s not the name I heard. The name I heard, specifically from a drug court client, is the name of an individual who was in the paper a year or 2 ago for CDV. Since when does someone listed in the police reports get a well-paying job with the solicitor’s office?

I’m sure Mrs. Campbell did not realize what she was stepping into. I believe the rumors about her to be false, based on what I know.

More disturbing to me than anything else is the fact that those in the higher escelons of politics around are walking around like this is water off a duck’s back. They know they will be protected by many others they provide favors to, I suppose.

Since there is no crime in speculation, I will go ahead and say that something about the officer being shot doesn’t sit well. I’ve heard rumors of a 17 or 18 yr. old being involved. When was the last time an officer was shot, or even fired at, in this area? Perhaps the shooter expected the same freedom to deal freely in Cheraw, stolen car or not, they had probably enjoyed for a long time. Were there drugs found at the scene? I don’t recall any being reported. This one guy just decides to shoot a cop, one who happens to be new to the area? No, I smell a rat, just like with everything else happening in the area. I’m sure some folks are worried, what with the new influx of officers. Someone might get nosy and find some dirt others have managed to hide. Once again, hope the officer and his family is doing well.

To any new folks coming to this area, careful where you step. It’s so easy to become involved in other’s sinister motives before you even know anything.

By Another Opinion on March 3rd, 2010 at 8:39 pm

Did take the time to read The Link’s article about officer shooting.

Right beside it another article that 2 individuals had been arrested as a result of the shooting. Quote: “Officer Maurice Merritt was shot after stopping a vehicle that had reportedly stopped in front of a home at 126 Godfrey St. where officers have received NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS about drug transactions”.

Numerous complaints, huh? It takes an officer, and, from all appearances, a decent one, getting shot to arrest these folks? One was arrested for crack cocaine. The other individual had “outstanding drug warrants”. Guess it was something that was “missed”, just like they missed the cop cooking up meth.

I guess some folks in law enforcement may have been busy covering their butts. Or perhaps they were wasting money flying over the county looking for weed they could chop down, burn, and arrest people for.

If they’re selling meth, crack, AND weed, or selling weed to kids, by all means, arrest them. Otherwise leave them alone. You’re wasting tax payers money and I did not vote or authorize the tax money I pay to be used in this manner.

Our own government is growing and prescribing medicinal marijuana and at the same time locking people up for growing and using it?

We have had 2 presidents now who openly admitted using it, although one “didn’t inhale”. Why didn’t someone lock them up?

If our local and state leaders would focus on cleaning up their personal lives and stop making us look like fools, then perhaps some decent jobs would come to the area and folks wouldn’t have to sell anything at all.

As for the gubernatorial candidate in the area last week, are you sure you want the support of at least one person in the photo with you, much less having him speak on your behalf? Don’t be fooled into thinking the upper crust in this town will guarentee you votes. There are a lot of “undesirables” like myself in this town who vote and we’re very tired of the status quo. Associate yourself with them and you’ll be surprised how many votes you WON’T receive.

Now it’s wonderful you’re focusing on education and economic development. Some issues I would like to hear addressed are more specific: dirty politicos and dirty cops and judges, child abuse and neglect, our military folks getting the assistance they need, and fiscal responsibility. Since our local government can’t seem to get the crack and meth off the streets around here, perhaps you could address that as well.

By you must be jokin' on March 4th, 2010 at 11:57 am

To Anothe Opinion
I agree with EVERY thing you stated.
I too, will probably vote very differently, than in the past, because of the ELECTED folks in the photo.
Jackie Ellerbe most of all. She was allowed to remain in power when she does not reside in our district. Of course the two questionable voted were certified by Diana Charles. A person who has a LOT of hate in her heart, has openly stated Jay Hodge is a racest but continues to hold onto his coat tail.
Ms. Charles knew this offical did not reside in the district, but she supported the lie. Myself and many other lost all respect for Rev. Charles when she cast that decision. Some Rev. Again if these are the Christians in our community, leave me out!
This community is begging for true leaders with a backbone.

What has happened to you Hodge supporters?? Do you feel the net closing around you?? I guess I really don’t blame you for not using your real names because of the disgrace that will be bestowed upon our ex-solicitor. With all that being said, think about the new lease on life our community will have once this dark cloud is removed. My one wish is that the people who have supported his lie’s will do all humanly possible to heal this community and the innocent people involved!!
p.s. that’s not you Safrona, you know what you have done.

My personal theiories on what is happening:

1)The investigation was never taken seriously, was seen as a fued inside a non-profit organization, and the FEDS have left town.

2)Lack of evidence was found and FEDS left.

3)FEDS have pretended to leave in order to give certain folks enough rope to hang themselves, thinking the heat is off.

4)Political connections in Columbia and perhaps D.C. intervened.

5)Witnesses were silenced, and again, lack of evidence.

6)The accused cleaned up their acts and were given another chance.

7)This is much bigger than anyone imagined and the investigation will continue for much longer than expected.

8)The FEDS don’t have time for such small fish.

This is pure speculation. I really have no idea what is going on. One thing for sure: the same old folks doing the same old thing and living life large, seemingly without a care in the world.

Watched an interesting discussion last nite concerning an author’s book entitled “Snitches”. Was about the use of informants and the problems with them. Informants don’t have to testify in court. A person accused is often convinced by their overworked public defenders that they will lose a jury trial and often simply take a short sentence instead of defending themselves in court.Informants often enjoy a lot of freedom to do as they please, often lie and accuse those who are innocent they have a beef with, are drug distributors and users themselves. Seems to be a lot of those in this area.

Just my thoughts.

I hope number 7 is the answer.
It seems at least the new solicitor is cleaning house. He finally fired Mary Anderson, the only remaining fan Hodge had in the solicitors office.

I can not image trying to cunduct an office with so many snitches for Jay. Gotta give him some applause he has fired Bill Overcash, Jay Hodge, Mary Anderson, and a couple others who weren”t fans of the disgraced ex-solicitor.

Anyway, my hat is off to Will. He has cleaned up Drug Court and the Pretrial Intervention Program. When Hodge was in charge, it was as big of a joke as he is now.

Bbig Bubba, please come back!

By Another Opinion on March 21st, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Heard nothing bad about new solicitor. Hope that number 7 is the real deal.

By justice on March 22nd, 2010 at 8:52 am

You will not hear anything bad about Will Rogers. He is a good boss, and a strong solicitor. Unlike the last one we had! Thank goodness for some honesty in office.

By Not confused!!!! on March 22nd, 2010 at 10:24 am

One more needs to go!!!!!!!!!!!!Time will tell!!!!!

By chesterfield resident on March 22nd, 2010 at 7:02 pm

Not to worry people, i think the pressure cooker is gettin’ ready to blow. I heard Hodge has really been ordering people around like he was still the one with the fuzzies. News flash, he’s starting to smell like three day old fish to the power in the community and I think they are ready for him to go away. Just like him to still try to throw his weight around.
One person that was left out in the above list is Safrona Finch. I heard she landed on her feet with Hodge and is working for Mercy Ministries. If that’s true, one would have to wonder if any of that money is left that is supposed to help people in need around here. I would imagine that she and Hodge feel like they hit the lottery because no person on their board would ever question their expenditures

By just telling on March 23rd, 2010 at 9:41 am

Heard that Jay Hodge was going to run for solicitor again!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!! Heard straight out of his mouth!

True about the Mercy Ministries gig for Safronia. Talk about the foxes guarding the hen house. I guess Hodge put her in place just like he did Bullard and Michael, so he could deny everything by placing the blame on them.

I am not sure who is the most delusional, Hodge or Finch!

By Jackson Road Native on March 23rd, 2010 at 9:52 am

Heard Hodge was going to England again. Sure hope they watch him closely. He could live high on the hog in England, with the money from MM.

Heard some lie Safronia was promoting just this week. Seem she maybe “forgiving” to those who speak the TRUTH about her but she sure ain’t changing her ways.

Giving credit where it’s due. Kudos to new Cheraw Pol. Dept. officer who is brave enough to return to work after being shot twice.

Glad to see Link front page and meth lab bust. Kudos to Sheriff Parker & his guys on this.

Its not like Safrona is going back to work at the bank or something, now that would be a fox guarding the henhouse!!

I wish the real Big Bubba would come back because he knew how to really get things going instead of the fake Big Bubba above.

By Big Bubba on March 23rd, 2010 at 4:21 pm

Cheraw Dad!!!!!

I is the real Big Bubba. Doesn’t know what you mean but I is he. Think what you wishes!!!!! I has no dog in this fight, just wanting to has a liberation pig pickin’. Mildred is fat and ready for the pickin’
