Lady Gaga, who purports to be 23 years old, is – I’ll bet my journalistic integrity on this – not younger than 31.
Don’t get me wrong … I positively adore the woman. She’s a sequin of a singer – glossy and sparkly and fun. I mean, I owe her my ass, literally: Her music makes me kill it on the elliptical. She’s my favorite toy – a doll, a distraction – and I can’t get enough of her.
But girlfriend is not 23 years old. Even I, blinded though I am by her dazzle, can see that. She’s plainly lying. Seriously, Madonna looks younger than her. (Madonna, as it were, looks younger than pretty much everyone, which is what happens when you eat like a monk, exercise like a banshee, and screw Jesus).
Anyway, this past July – as my own odometer clicked from 23 to 24 – I contemplated staying put. Twenty-three sounds … I don’t know … just right, somehow, and I could have squeezed age 23 for all its worth for another couple of years, at least, before anyone started doing the math.
So, clearly, I’m not above lying about age.
But Gaga, as usual, is taking it to extremes.
A lie, if it is to succeed, has got to be believable. Which is to say that The Lady could claim to be maybe 27 – that keeps her firmly in her twenties, while staying within the realm of believability – but she can’t claim to be 23. Well, she can . . . but then there are questions, such as the ones I’m raising here.
And preemptively: Yes, bold make-up – like Gaga rocks – does harden and age. . . when you’re 31. No style of make-up can possibly age a 23 year old. Which is one reason we – me, Gaga, and everybody else – pretend to be 23 long after we actually are.

Earlier this year – take Poker Face for example, and her interview on Ellen’s show – she looked younger than 23. One interviewer – Rolling Stone? – wrote how young she looked. Makeup can do wonders, and in Bad Romance she was trying to appear older. She also has those wonderful Roman features that come out more as she matures. And, the skin never lies. She has gorgeous youthful skin. And, as if it were needed, there’s a ton of external validation, from high school classmates to records (including video) of her student days at NYU. PS – I adore Lady Gaga too.

Methinks Lady Gaga is older than 23 but younger than 31. Regardless, Bad Romance is just a flat out good song (and video) which will no doubt top the charts later this week.
But let me take this opportunity to plug (I wish) another fantastic “Lady”. Fits being the worldly site that it is, lets go all the way to Dar es Salaam for that Swahili singing East African beauty, (my) Lady Jay Dee!
