“Impeachment Deck” Stacked In Sanford’s Favor

royal flush

S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford will find a receptive audience of state lawmakers when a resolution calling for his impeachment is heard before a House subcommittee on Tuesday afternoon, sources tell FITS.

The governor – who is facing a separate 37-count ethics complaint – enjoys the support of a majority of the committee members, which will take up an impeachment resolution sponsored by S.C. Rep. Greg Delleney.

This is the same resolution, FITS readers will recall, that S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell ruled out of order during a special session of the S.C. General Assembly last month.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Harrison announced the formation of a six-member ad hoc committee last Friday to consider the resolution, although House Speaker Bobby Harrell is said to have chosen its members.

Of those members, three will reportedly vote to quash the resolution.  They are Reps. Garry Smith (R-Greenville), David Weeks (D-Sumter) and Walt McLeod (D-Newberry).

Two lawmakers, Delleney and Rep. James Smith (D-Columbia), will reportedly vote to move the resolution forward to the full House Judiciary Committee with a “favorable” recommendation.

One lawmaker, freshman Rep. Jenny Horne (RINO-Dorchester), is considered the “swing vote” at Tuesday’s hearing.

Sources tell FITS that Horne wants to vote to in favor of the resolution, but is being pressured by Harrell to vote with Smith, Weeks and McLeod.

Should Horne defy Harrell’s wishes and vote with Delleney and Smith (an unlikely scenario), it would create a 3-3 tie on the subcommittee.  In that case, Judiciary Chairman Jim Harrison himself would then cast the deciding vote – which sources tell FITS would be in favor of moving the resolution forward.

So … it’s all up to Rep. Horne, in other words (send her a message here telling her what you think she should do).

For his part, Delleney sees the hand his impeachment resolution has been dealt and is already lobbying Judiciary Committee members – who will ultimately decide whether or not to move the resolution to the floor of the House.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Impeachment Subcommittee takes place at 1:00 p.m. in the Blatt building on the S.C. State House grounds.

FITS will be in attendance and we look forward to providing you with an update on what (if anything) goes down …

He who casts the first stone…I think we should investigate all of them…..I would bet Bauer has a history that makes these allegations look silly.

Everyone needs to go back and listen to Sanfraud presser after his return from Argentina.
He said his trip was partly based on ” HIS FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITY TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA”.

The Ethics Commission skipped over that part of the puzzle.

Sanfraud must go. Impeach him immediately and get it over with then the state might~ win.

    Exclusive: Sanford booked 10-day getaway

On or around the day his wife asked him to move out, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford booked a ten-day trip to Buenos Aires, a person familiar with the governor’s travel plans told POLITICO.

Sanford booked the trip on Delta Air Lines on June 10, using the company’s SkyMiles program, the source said. He bought a ticket for June 18, returning June 28.

Jenny Sanford said yesterday, June 24, that she’d “asked my husband to leave two weeks ago.”

Sanford’s trip was cut short after the local press raised questions about his absence, but the dates offer a glimpse into both his decision to depart as his marriage frayed, and after months of counseling.

The bookings also cast light on the governor’s recklessness, and his belief, or hope, that he could vanish from the state for well over a week without raising questions about his absence.

He spent his time in Buenos Aires in Palermo, a fashionable residential neighborhood, and was not, reportedly, a recluse: He was seen in the local bar, Guido’s, with Maria Belen Chapur last week.

i hope the committee just names king marshall SC’s Regent for life and we can all get past this little blip on the radar. maria boleyn chapur can then be called to court, the majesty’s marriage to jenny of aragon can be anulled, and then we in SC will all have what we want: king marshall as our divinely ordained sovereign for all his days. sic willie can be sic woolsey, with the same fate. LOL

Come on Mark, I mean Liberty. What did Bauer do to cause this mess? This sounds like how you, I mean Mark (sorry Liberty) explained your plane trips by saying you didn’t mis-use state planes as much as the previous Governors (including Campbell??) did. The pathetic thing is that all of these problems can be traced to being both too cheap to use your own money and being P-Whipped. I can truly understand the latter.

By the way. I’m sure you voted for your so called RINO Bauer in ’02 and ’06. He was better than a Demo then wasn’t he?

Every patriotic cause needs a martyr. Come on Mark (Liberty) step up and take one for the team.

    “Cry for me, Argentina”

    Jun. 26, 2009

Philandering South Carolina governor Mark Sanford has said little about the most beautiful sound he ever heard, “Maria,” his horizontal tango partner from Argentina, so TMZ.com did a little lurking around Buenos Aires night spots.

Carlos Soto, owner of Guido’s Bar, says Governor Mark Sanford and Maria Belen Chapur have stopped in several times over the last few months – most recently last week, while Mark Sanford was – wink, wink – hiking the Appalachian Trail to decompress after a tough legislative session.

Soto says the lovers were “all over each other” last week, “kissing, holding hands and drinking wine.”

As for Maria, Soto said she has green eyes, dirty-blond hair and “un cuerpazo,” which TMZ translated to mean “a banging body.”
