Vandals Strike USC Stadium

Vandals with spray paint cans broke into Williams-Brice Stadium on the University of South Carolina campus Tuesday night and put some “orange in the end zone,” mimicking the catchphrase of arch-rival Clemson University’s radio announcer.

The story of the vandalism – which had been widely-discussed on college football message boards across the state of South Carolina throughout the day Wednesday- was finally confirmed by Joe Person of The (Columbia, S.C.) State, although Person described the internet rumors as “greatly exaggerated” compared to the actual damage.

From Person’s story:

Whenever Clemson scores a touchdown, Tigers play-by-play announcer Pete Yanity makes his signature call, “There’s orange in the end zone.”

A week and a half before the Clemson-USC game, vandals painted orange in the south end zone at Williams-Brice Stadium overnight Tuesday.

USC equipment manager Chris Matlock saw an aerosol can and “a little orange paint” on the field Wednesday morning. Matlock said the damage was minimal and would not require workers to re-sod the grass before the rivalry game Nov. 28.

Matlock said the graffiti message, which included a ‘C,’ appeared to be incomplete.

“It looked like either they got caught or ran out of paint,” Matlock said.

First of all, “There’s orange in the end zone” sounds pretty like a pretty gay signature call to us – and reminds us why we don’t ever listen to football games (or any other sporting events) on the radio.

Of course Yanity is no doubt a better announcer than USC’s worthless play-by-play man, who only has his job because … you know what?

You can read all about that right here

Anyway, Carolina and Clemson square off Nov. 28 at 12:00 p.m. EST in the latest installment of the South’s longest uninterrupted rivalry.

The Tigers enjoy a 65-37-4 advantage in the series, including a 21-8-1 mark over the last three decades …

Speaking of douchebag play by play announcers, this quote is someone’s signature on one of the message boards. “Professional play-by-play announcers paint a rich tapestry with words – Todd Ellis scribbles a couple of stick figures and yells a lot.”

Even the people on Gamecock Central said that these rumors were out of control and that nothing too damaging happened. People on Gamecock Central were saying the field had to be resodded.

FITS…sounds like you hate radio. Is because radio trumps blogs? Is it because they have actual proof before they air stories? Or did a radio fall on your head when you were young?

Clempson and Carolina could all stand to make a change in the radio booth.Pistol Pete and Will “landscape” Merritt are just awful along with Todd “Mr. Interception” Ellis and Tommy “hello to Mr.and Mrs.San So from BFE” Suckass all need to take a Smart car out of SC.

When the vandals were in the USC stadium, I’m guessing that was the most crowded the stadium’s been all year.

Toyota, I don’t care for any of those announcers either but do find that your behavior is consistent. Just like when you threatened FITS that you were coming after him at a game, FITS gave you his seat location. I understand you were a no show. I would like to see you tell Merritt face to face what you think of him. We could probably sell tickets to that one.

We were definitely Clemson vandals. Didn’t our orange paint give us away?
We were going to paint a REAL big Clemson in there.
We got up our “C”. But Jimmy Earl forgot to bring the encyclopedia, and we fergot what letter comz next, so we had to leave.
Shudda knowed it was an L, but we forgot. We’ll be back.

Dabo’s DaMan, at least they were not as dumb as the USC east vandals who years ago hit John C Calhoun’s home at Clemson. They ran into a nasty little deal. Seems it is on the National Register which made their act a Federal crime and all of a sudden they had the FBI up their ass.

Word on the street is that Shane Beamer actually arranged for this to try and motivate our team based on a similar incident that occurred while he was at VA Tech.

CNSTD one more game to go!!! Next time you and Will are racing cockroaches and talking to the ghost of Coach Howard at sloan street tavern ask him about getting his ass cut in central some years back. The hell with you and Will(landscape)Merritt!!!

By CNSYD on November 20th, 2009 at 10:06 am

Toyota, Were you the perpetrator of the alleged ass cutting? I seriously doubt it. I also suggest that you visit said establishment and make remarks about Frank Howard to the owner. BTW since you seem to love all things Jap, when economic times get worse you can always eat your Jap car.
