“Big Ole Cock”
Unranked South Carolina will (mercifully) end its 2009 regular season on Nov. 28 at Williams-Brice Stadium against arch-rival Clemson, a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN at 12:00 noon EST.
We’ll have several stories on the so-called “rivalry” (which Clemson leads 65-37-4, including a 21-8-1 advantage over the last three decades), but in the meantime we were forwarded a funny song
It’s called “Big Ole Cock,” and it’s performed by aspiring country musician Patrick Davis.
First, here’s the song …
And here are the lyrics to the song, courtesy of a commenter on the website Cockytalk …
Well I barely slept a wink last night
‘Cause I could hardly wait
To wake up this morning on gameday
So as soon as I heard that ROOSTER CROW
I set off on the road
Straight down I-20 to the Capital City
Where the pretty Carolina Girls grow…‘Cause I heard all the stories
Of the great GEORGE ROGERS
And how back in 1980
he made the whole Nation holler
And I seen that photograph
of young STEVE TANEYHILL
UP IN OLE DEATH VALLEY
Signing his name on the field
And I love to hear “2001″
And feel WILLIAMS-BRICE rockOh what else can I say?
I’M JUST A BIG OLE COCKWell you know I come from
A long line of COCKS just like me
Who never stopped believing
In spite our history
‘Cause oh though we’ve had heartbreak
And oh so many tears
I know one day I wont have to say
“Wait until NEXT YEAR”‘Cause I’ve heard all the stories of 1984
And how if we’d have just beat Navy
We’d of won IT ALL for sure
And I’ve cheered for Todd Ellis
Duce Staley and Lou Holtz
And even at 0-11
I NEVER GAVE UP HOPE
Yeah I hate those Georgia Bulldogs
Florida Gators and Rocky TopOh what else can I say
I’M JUST A BIG OLE COCKYes and when I die
I have just one request
So if you could
Would you promise me this?Put a keg on my coffin
Inside the State Fairgrounds
Serve chicken and biscuits with all the fixins
Gather everyone around
Have the Ol Ball Coach
Say some words
In his golf shirt and his VISOR
And then send the boys off
TO DESTROY THEM DAMN OLD CLEM(P)SON TIGERS!‘Cause I heard all the stories
Of the great GEORGE ROGERS
And how back in 1980
he made the whole Nation holler
And I seen that photograph
of young STEVE TANEYHILL
UP IN OLE DEATH VALLEY
Signing his name on the field
And I love to hear “2001″
And feel WILLIAMS-BRICE rockYeah what else can I say?
UNTIL MY DYING DAY!
I’LL BE A SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCK
(Yes I will!)(Cheering)
GAME!
COCKS!
For a country song, that’s actually not half bad!
Also, in the interest of preempting a whiny, shrill comment from Wolfe Reports founder Wes Wolfe, his website did write about this song last week.

Exactly how many touchdowns did Rodgers score against Clemson?

Patrick Davis is a little more than an aspiring country artist. He’s a fairly big time writer who has singles sang by Jason Michael Carroll and Pat Green. Ever heard of “Where I’m From” or “Dixie Lullaby”?

hey man-
we actually live in a house without wheels under it, so no, we haven’t heard of either of those songs.

CNSYD, I know the answer. The same as Herchel Walker.
By Stumpy on November 17th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
Oops, that’s Herschel.
By CNSYD on November 17th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
FITS, you should never take the wheels off from under your house. You may need to leave town in a hurry.

George Rogers didn’t score against Clemtech but had another 100yd plus game. Maybe Big George will let Spiller get a photo with his trophy sometime…

CNSYD – what year did you graduate from Clemson?
FITS – I recommend that you adopt a new policy. No comments from “sidewalk alumni”.
By CNSYD on November 17th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
Clemsux, tell me again why there are no white lines on George Rodgers Blvd.? BTW, who cares how many yards an opposing back gains as long as he doesn’t cross the “alumni line”.

Fits..so you pulled the wheels off, cant you figure how to get the brake and tail lights off the end?

Sir Big Spur, 1967 and when did you graduate from USC? If a ban was put on sidewalk alumni by the media, sports call in shows would cease to exist. Listen to the Duke “fans” who call in during basketball season and tell me they have even been on the campus much less graduated. As regards gamecock sidewalk alumni, you should hear “Gamecock Will” who calls into upstate call in shows.

CNSYD:
Oh, you attended Clemson when it was an all boys school?
You couldn’t get into The Citadel?
Graduated in the 80’s from USC. USC was great. Lots of good looking girls.

To use a line from No Country for Old Men, an attempt at humor I suppose. You need to check your facts. Women had been going to Clemson for decades before I got there. Now days they have the majority. In my day the vast majority of students were in science related studies which required labs and manys hour of study. There were no play majors like those at USC where you have a few classes and then have the rest of the day to goof off as apparently you did. Ben Tillman rules!

CNSYD -
You need to lighten up.
I’m the one working in management. You are the retired fart living on a union pension plan and social security.
I’d say my USC degree stacks up well with your Clemson degree.
By CNSYD on November 18th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Sir Big Spur, what union pension and what social security? Have you been stealing checks from my mailbox?
By CNSYD on November 18th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Sir Big Spur, I forgot to ask. Which gas station do you manage? How many pumps does it have? Have you ever filled up Lane Kiffin’s auto?
By Sir Big Spur on November 18th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
CNSYD – no, I do not need to steal your checks because I have a private sector job.
Only union thugs do those sort of things.
By CNSYD on November 18th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Sir Big Spur, well someone must be getting these checks you say I am entitled to recieve. I never knew I was supposed to get them. I would have saved my stock accounts had I known. What public sector is it that I am working for? I am self employed. Is that what self employed means?
By Sir Big Spur on November 18th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
CNSYD – In previous posts you stated you were in a union. Don’t try to deny it.
Be proud union man.
By CNSYD on November 18th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
Never said I was in a union. Never have been. I have worked at locales that had unions but since I was in upper management I was not a member. I did say that management failures are the biggest cause of the rise of unions. Managers who used to be blue collar and are former union members are the worst offenders. I did refer to the Teamsters as I worked loading and unloading trucks while a college student. I enjoyed union wages but was not a member of the Teamsters as I was not a full time employee. So what is it I am denying?
