This is an excellent idea- and innovative on his part. It gives many students who are not athletes a place to excel in school instead of just being the “other kids”. Check out the DNR Archery in schools program-it is a huge hit and provides yet another avenue for kids to excel.

DNR already does a program called Take One Make One, that one holds youth hunts all over the state (and has been doing so for many years). The program is already in place and staff is trained and available to be sure of a safe hunt. It also provides a place for youth hunters to interact with Game Wardens-not much different is it, than something like D.A.R.E. huh?

I usually agree with you Willie, but this time, you are screaming over something just because they said the words youth and guns in conjunction-which is a bit of a politically correct knee-jerk reaction. Look into some of these other things before you put the whole idea down!

I went to a South Carolina public school that already does this. You know how many problems we had as a result of it? Zero.

Just proves that Dr. Rex is a little bit more in tune with what is really going on around the state than FITSNews is.

It’s a great idea. I took firearm safety growing up through a school sponsored class. Teaching kids firearm safety and teaching them about hunting is a hell of a lot better than some of the things they are teaching in school.

GEE..how about something really useful like say trade classes???
Do you people realize our schools graduate kids that have NO SKILL AT ALL.
They are illiterate on American history and government and dependant in the long run on government because of lack of skills….sound like a plan for dependency???? wake up people!!

My public school in VA taught a gun safety course. We watched mutliple trigger-tape movies which were quite gory.

And very effective.

Ditto for our driver’s education class.

Best courses I took in school.

Besides typing.
