SC House: Quinn’s In
Former S.C. Majority Leader Rick Quinn made it official this week, sending a letter to constituents in Lexington County announcing his candidacy for the S.C. House of Representatives.
Quinn previously served sixteen years in the House from 1989-2005, including a six-year stint as Majority Leader.
“I feel like I can make an impact,” Quinn told FITS, “especially on the issue of comprehensive tax reform.”
Quinn says South Carolina has “unfinished business” on the tax front, citing a disastrous 2006 bill that has resulted a rash of unintended consequences for local businesses.
In his final two years in office, Quinn pushed for a major overhaul of the tax code – including sizable an income tax cut.
Quinn’s provisions, had they been adopted, would have alleviated many of the issues currently facing the state in the wake of the ill-conceived 2006 measure, which did nothing but implement a sales tax for property tax “swap.”
We’ve butted heads with Quinn on numerous occasions in the past – particularly during our founding editor’s time in the governor’s office – and it goes without saying that there are issues where we are not in complete agreement.
Of course, there is absolutely no denying that the S.C. House of Representatives under the leadership of Quinn and Speaker David Wilkins was a dramatically more conservative place that it is now – with RINOs like Bobby Harrell, Danny Cooper and Jimmy Merrill running the show.
Plus, Quinn’s opponent in this race – a local Gomer by the name of Danny Frazier – is a tax-and-spend RINO to the core, making our endorsement of Quinn a no-brainer.

“No brainer” is an ample metaphor for you and Quinn.
Congratulate yourselves for the fact that South Carolina couldn’t serve as the nation’s cartoon of an outhouse without the likes of either of you.

Gary Taylor and Ernie Peagler are also candidates. Gary Taylor will do a great job for the district.

quinn is running against danny frazier. How about instead of a vote to determine the winner, have a sumo wrestling contest, or a hot dog eating contest or see which one of these guys can actually look down and see his dick below those bloated guts.

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing which doesn’t work over and over and over again and expecting a different result.
Can’t we just try something other than recycled conservative, no-vision, business-as-usual Republicans to lead our state?

“Quinn says South Carolina has “unfinished business” on the tax front, citing a disastrous 2006 bill that has resulted a rash of unintended consequences for local businesses.”
Quinn was one of the primary proponents of the tax shift. Don’t give me this BS about unintended consequences as HE WAS TOLD WHAT WOULD HAPPEN.

This is a BIG deal. Quinn is LARGE on the hill. This could be MASSIVE. His vote carries a TON.

Jeffy,
quickie quinn is a big large larva. A (really) massive misfit. He’s full of it; a metric ton of it. The last thing SC needs is q.q. elected again. He’s a poster child for what needs to happen to political pimps. Vote them out.
By Stumpy on November 13th, 2009 at 9:42 am
He got voted out last time for not listening to his constituents, what makes you think he has changed?
By American Patriot on November 13th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
I am voting new blood in 100% of the elections 100% of the time.
As far as Frazier, I have known him for 15 or so years, know his temperment, ability to to misrepresent the truth, his proclivity to skate on the edge with the law and ethics. I would not vote for him under any circumstances.

Rick Quinn was a fighter in the House, especially when he was younger. Rick was one of a handful of conservatives who fought even Gov. Campbell’s “moderate” plans. If I remember right, he was always against tax increases and fee increases and government handouts back in the nineties. He never used to compromise back then, and I remember respecting him. He had a lot of fire and he was pretty stubborn. Which you want in a politician, no matter what all these “go along and meet in the middle” people think.
I think Mr. Fits is right that the House was better under our former speaker than our current one. That would seem true given the big spending increases. Our taxes are going up, including property taxes. They said that wouldn’t happen after they passed that plan, but it did. Surprise. They lied about tax increases.
