SC First Lady Endorses Haley For Governor

With S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford having become a political liability, State Rep. Nikki Haley has turned to the one Sanford that South Carolinians still adore to jump-start her flagging gubernatorial campaign – First Lady Jenny Sanford.

In a letter released Wednesday by the Haley campaign, the First Lady endorsed Haley’s bid to succeed her husband in 2010, calling the Lexington Republican a “real conservative” who has “shown uncommon courage in her willingness to take on the political bosses and not back down from the fight.”

Indeed, of all the Republicans seeking the 2010 nomination, Haley’s fiscal conservative voting record is easily the strongest in the field.

Mrs. Sanford’s letter praised Haley for that conservative record, as well as her efforts to force state lawmakers to cast more of their votes “on the record.”

“Nikki Haley took it upon herself to stop this corrupt system and fought to have each and every vote put on the record so taxpayers could see all the special-interest deals and the wasteful spending,” the First Lady writes.

Haley, perceived as the “Sanford candidate” in the 2010 election, has struggled to gain traction owing to the unexpected “Summer of Scandals” that have followed the governor’s secret getaway to visit his Latin lover, Maria Belen Chapur.

As a result of the Sanford scandals, Haley’s fundraising efforts have badly trailed the three establishment candidates in the race, although Mrs. Sanford’s endorsement could help her significantly in that regard.

Mrs. Sanford, who worked on Wall Street prior to managing her husband’s political career, is the keeper of Sanford’s political database – which contains literally thousands of big-dollar conservative campaign donors.

The First Lady’s family, which founded the Skil power tool corporation, could also throw its financial support behind Haley.

Ever since the Sanford scandals broke, the First Lady has defied convention by refusing to “stand by her man.” In fact, she moved her family out of the S.C. Governor’s Mansion earlier this summer after attempts at reconciliation with her husband failed.

More recently, Mrs. Sanford told friends at a wedding for a former Sanford staffer that her relationship with the governor was “over.”

Any campaign strategitician will be foolish to ignore the effect of Lady Sanford’s endorsement on the female vote, which will be highly positive for Haley. The media boyz club will attempt to ignore the endorsement, but the game is not the same.

Any women who would be swayed by Mrs. Sanford’s endorsement are all feminist democrats and dont vote in the GOP primary.

Second, I used to think Mrs. Sanford had class…instead she has taken her personal tragedy into the public arena instead of focusing on her sons.

Trailer park trash air their grievances on Jerry Springer. The Sanfords air their dirty laundry threw the political media in the state.

I really can’t say that this is a surprise. The Luv Gov supports (while not officially) Haley as well. I know the Sanfruads have supported other candidates in the past. AND their track record is not that flattering. However, because of the affair, more women are supportive of Jenny. Why? I don’t know. She needs to work hard on her personality – like getting one. She’s not that nice to “regular” people.

This could springboard Haley in the polling. I really think SC is underestimating her. She could be a game changer. Now, if Palin comes here to support her – she can HANG IT UP!

I would also speculate that the majority of FITS readers are male. Jenny’s endorsement just might help sway the female vote. Both women appear to have intelligence and backbone and don’t cater to the good ol boy club.That is worth some votes.

Nikki Haley is not ready to be governor. I don’t give a crap about what the-soon-to-be EX Mrs Sanford has to say on this issue. She needs to focus, as she keeps saying to the media, on her family and get the heck away from politics. She was WRONG about her husband, and she’s WRONG about Haley. So, whether you’re male or female, a redneck or a sophisticated snot who’s too good for us poor SC natives, this endorsement just shows how desperate some people are to stay in play and to stay relevant.

If anybody will say an end to income and property taxes they will get my vote. Follow the Constitution and let’s secede. Man, the mainstream media has really done an excellent job on these Sanford bashers. Mark Sanford’s politics were right on the money on behalf of his constituants. What Mark did is between he & God & family. Ye who are without sin cast the first stone. Where we really need a house cleaning is in the state legislature. They run the state—-not the Governor. As far as wrong doing, most them have done worse than Sanford—-they just haven’t been caught. During his term he tried to begin to streamline state government—but the good ole boy’s were just too corrupt to go along with his platform—even his fellow republican’s—which I find appalling. Oh, by the way, Sanford’s indiscretions did’nt seem to hinder Boeing from coming to the state. You people—get off of your media hi’s & start being rational.
