These days, our National Guard gets shipped out to duty and service, in the 60s and 70s, the yellow-bellied who had mamas and papas with pull got a very dear slot in the National Guard and hid out there for the duration of their required (draft) enlistment and stayed at home. Getting a slot in the National Guard, back then in the draft years, meant that you would not be shipped to the Asian jungles to be shot, captured or whatever.

Good point. Mr. Connor has been featured – in his own words – several times on this site (see below), but you are right, he is certainly more than welcome to submit his thoughts on Veteran’s Day as a veteran himself.

In the sentence structure we were aiming for in our article, the Repub/ Dem, coming/ going symmetry that referencing Smith and Pitts seemed to achieve worked for us. In fact we toyed with a version of the sentence that included Connor, and it just didn’t work.

Hopefully this acknowledgment and the above links are sufficient penance.

While there are certainly those that call themselves vets as part of their platform Connor truly served the interests of our state and country. In fact, I believe James Smith served with Connor in Afghanistan.

If you’re going to celebrate vets in this nature, at least don’t leave out the highest profile true veteran in any of the races right now.
