By 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning – after we had received our eleventy kabillionth “Senator So-and-So Issues Statement On Veterans Day” email – our founding editor finally snapped.
“So help me God the next time one of these yellow-bellied, douche bag politicians sends us a friggin’ press release talking about somebody else’s courage and sacrifice, you stick a picture of a horse on my website and wish them all a Happy Veterinarians Day.”
Veterans … veterinarians … get it?
“That’ll show them,” he added.
That’s Sic Willie, ladies and gentlemen. What a true lover of freedom, right?
Anyway, in addition to all you veterinarians out there who courageously sacrifice for the well-being of our animals – we would like to take this opportunity to thank people like Rep. James Smith (a Democrat who recently spent fifteen months in Afghanistan) and Rep. Ted Pitts (a Republican who is heading to Afghanistan in January).
If either one of those gentlemen would like to send us a press release commemorating Veterans Day, we’d be happy to print it …
The rest of you politicians?
STFU.
Oh, and happy veterinarian’s day …

Interesting that you left out Bill Connor.
While there are certainly those that call themselves vets as part of their platform Connor truly served the interests of our state and country. In fact, I believe James Smith served with Connor in Afghanistan.
If you’re going to celebrate vets in this nature, at least don’t leave out the highest profile true veteran in any of the races right now.

Jeff-
Good point. Mr. Connor has been featured – in his own words – several times on this site (see below), but you are right, he is certainly more than welcome to submit his thoughts on Veteran’s Day as a veteran himself.
We would love to print them, too, as his commentary is always appreciated.

In the sentence structure we were aiming for in our article, the Repub/ Dem, coming/ going symmetry that referencing Smith and Pitts seemed to achieve worked for us. In fact we toyed with a version of the sentence that included Connor, and it just didn’t work.
Hopefully this acknowledgment and the above links are sufficient penance.

Veteran’s Day is gone for this year and I want to remind the young generation that those older politicians of the ‘nam generation who were in the National Guard, were in effect …
“yellow-bellied, douche bag politicians sends us a friggin’ press release talking about somebody else’s courage and sacrifice”
These days, our National Guard gets shipped out to duty and service, in the 60s and 70s, the yellow-bellied who had mamas and papas with pull got a very dear slot in the National Guard and hid out there for the duration of their required (draft) enlistment and stayed at home. Getting a slot in the National Guard, back then in the draft years, meant that you would not be shipped to the Asian jungles to be shot, captured or whatever.

Great call:
“yellow-bellied, douche bag politicians sends us a friggin’ press release talking about somebody else’s courage and sacrifice”
The vast majority of today’s politicians no doubt.

Allow this vet (non-bestial) to salute in return one of the best truth-digging bloggers around:
SA-LUTE!
Thanks for all the hard work you do, sir!

Southernmapart–you wouldn’t be referring to Congressman Joe Wilson would you?

This was priceless. The vets in my family thank you FITS, both categories.

If a politician is the age range for the draft years, chances are he hid out in the National Guard.
“Southernmapart–you wouldn’t be referring to Congressman Joe Wilson would you?”
Bill Whitmire (R) House Dist 1, is one of ‘em. Was ol’ Joe one of ‘em? Well, … put his name on the board too.
There is also the issue of draft-dodger babies. If you were born in the 1960s, there is likely a 25% chance that you are a draft-dodger baby.
