D.C. Sniper To Be Executed

While America speculates as to the motivation behind of one of the Army’s most brutal mass murderers, Major Nidal Malik Hasan – another soldier gone bad, former Gulf War veteran and Nation of Islam member John Allen Muhammed is about to die for his role in an infamous shooting spree that paralyzed the nation’s capital seven years ago.

Muhammed, the mastermind of the 2002 D.C. Sniper slayings, will be executed by the State of Virginia tonight at 9:00 p.m. barring any last minute appeals.

His three week shooting rampage left ten dead and three wounded in October 2002, including a Vietnam Veteran who was filling his car with gasoline at a Manassas, Va., filling station.

Arrested in Maryland, Muhammed (born John Allen Williams) was extradited to Virginia due to its death penalty laws.

Muhammed’s accomplice in the slayings, then 17-year-old Lee Malvo, is currently serving a life sentence in Virginia.

What motivated Muhammed?

He claims that his plan was to use the killings – and the $10 million ransom he hoped to collect – as a springboard for creating a militant youth organization that would launch additional attacks against Americans.

UDPATE: Muhammed was executed by lethal injection.

Everyone can point to someone who “deserves to die” for the crime they have committed. But look at the company we keep when you consider nations that officially carry out that sentence.

Wisconsin does it better. Remember Jeffrey Dahmer?

And I’m guessing the cheerleaders above are staunchly “pro life.”

What he did is never to be excused. He obviously had tremendous demons, and unleashed them on others. However, it is never right to kill in the name of justice. No parole, no probation, ever. Just in prison until he dies a natural death. And lets not draw a comparison between pro-choice and the anti-death penalty.

    Scooter.. I agree in part.
I believe most should get life as there are too many innocent people in prison. But when it is without doubt..such as this or the clevland killer or Manson.I dont want to pay to house and feed them.Think about how much work you will do in your life to take care of people who desrve none.I think that is the perfect outlook. But thats just me.In this case I would pull the trigger myself.By the way,a bullet would be the most efficent and humane.
