FITS Versus The Shop Tart – It’s On!
In the battle for new media supremacy in the State of South Carolina, an unexpected adversary has emerged to challenge the dominance of “ours truly.”
Her name? The Shop Tart.
Her M.O.? Shoes. And clothing. And food. And culture. And last but not least, bargains pertaining to all of the above – in other words everything we’d be spending our days doing if we didn’t feel such an obligation to hold all of the Palmetto State’s government goons accountable. Which we do heroically, and with abs you could fry an egg on.
Anyway, The Shop Tart has been voted by readers of the Columbia, S.C. alternative weekly Free Times as the “best local blog,” prompting two curious reactions from our founding editor.
On the one hand, he’s not the least bit jealous. “Blog” is a categorization that Sic Willie insists we shed a long time ago for the more ostentatious pastures of “new mediaism.”
“We have evolved past that sort of thing,” he snorted.
On the other hand, Sic immediately locked himself in the bathroom with a pair of Christian Louboutin heels and is sobbing uncontrollably, so there may be a bit of jealousy involved after all.
Interestingly enough, at least one editor at Free Times took umbrage to The Shop Tart’s selection …
Dear readers: If you believe that the purpose of reading blogs is to understand the lives of wealthy shopaholics with more time on their hands than you can possibly imagine, then you have rightly voted The Shop Tart as Best Local Blog. If, however, you find more value in breaking local news and off-the-rails commentary, then you might have considered such choices as FITS News, The Palmetto Scoop, SC Hotline or Indigo Journal.
Sha-zam!
As grateful as we are to Monsieur Cook for the nod, is comparing The Shop Tart and FITS (or any of the lesser political “blogs” mentioned) even possible?
Forget apples and oranges, aren’t we talking about kiwis and pineapples here?
After all, The Shop Tart is like Project Runway – or one of those cooking shows that our man-visor hates – while FITS (as Sic recently observed) is “Project Mayhem.”
Irregardless (which is a real word), props to the Tart. At the end of the day, we are perfectly content to serve as the dessert (or even the palate-cleansing sorbet) to her always delicious main course.
All we ask is few more shots of 5.5″ heels, darling …

FITS:
WTH? That’s not even apples v. oranges. It’s apples v. motor oil.
When I want to find out where to waste money I don’t have (ooohhh, sounds like a Govt. program), I’ll check that ‘blog’ out.

“Irregardless” isn’t a word, idiot. Is this the misbegotten intelligence you’re imparting to your children?

Is it wrong of me to love this? I think it’s like comparing shoes to…ideology. Ore lip gloss to economics. Handbags to religion? Or something like that.
I wondered about Dan’s categorizing of FITS and some of the others as blogs, too. I think of y’all as being a news site with its own style.
I appreciated Dan telling people who didn’t already know what my blog was all about. I’d also like to give a shout-out to the other winner in that category, SceneSC.com They have a great site that didn’t get the attention they deserved.
Peace, Fits. Maybe we can have a cocktail together some time? But let’s not talk politics.

Shop Tart is great! Yes your blogs are different categories completely, duh. We are all smart enough to realize that – thank you. What is the big deal? News and politics – FITS, fashion, great food, etc. – The Shop Tart. Just be happy people read you and voted. Such a dumb article for FITS……

And what’s up with the shoe porn at the top of the page? Such a tease. At least the Shop Tart tells us where to get the goods.

This just in from Steve V, The Shop Tart has been disqualified for excessively sandy vaginas. And I quote, “they just shoveled out fifteen cubic yards, and that was just The Shop Tart herself, they haven’t even started on her sister.” What a relief, now I will be able to sleep this weekend, knowing that FITSNews has been restored to its rightful spot at the top. After all, there can be only one “most innovative and influential new media source”!
