A day after New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg purchased a third term for himself at the bargain basement price of $100 million, the owners of the New York Yankees baseball team bought themselves a twenty-seventh World Series Championship.

Thanks to $423.5 million in off-season free agent acquisitions (detailed here), the “Damn Yankees ” capped a championship season by defeating last year’s champs, the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3 Wednesday night.

The Yankees won the title in their first year at the new Yankee Stadium, which cost $1.5 billion and which features an average ticket price of more than $70 a seat.

“You can call us anything you want, but you also have to call us world champions,” said team General Manager Brian Cashman.

Really?  We can call you anything we want?

How about shameless.

Speaking of shameless, winning his first World Series title this year was disgraced Yankees’ slugger Alex Rodriguez (a.k.a. A-Roid), whose use of illegal performance-enhancing drugs was exposed nine months ago.  Prior to getting busted, Rodriguez had gone on national television with Katie Couric and denied having ever used steroids.

Rodriguez, incidentally, is in the middle of a 10-year, $270 million contract with the Yankees.

WOW…How did they ever win with almost unlimited money???…I really think there should be an averaged team spending limit…oh and a ban on dicks..A-Rod I guess would not have a job

Will, stop your whining. You sound exactly like a socialist.

What is your complaint, anyway?

You want the government to mandate $7 Yankees seats instead of $70 ones?

You want wage and price controls on players and stadiums?

You know as well as I do that people ought to be able to pay whatever they want for whatever they want.

It’s the magical, invisible hand of the free market, right?

Are you crazy to object to any of this?

I guess you weren’t thinking straight . . . again.

Like that magical time when the police had to be called to regulate the free hand of Will Folks.

They just didn’t understand survival of the fittest.

The ‘Yankees’ have been winning since the mid 1860’s.

Well, A-Fraud finally got his ring he’s been pissing and moaning about. I think as soon as the final out was made, the entire Spankee lineup should have been made to submit to a piss test. Especially Matsui…
