Converse Chellis Has A Challenger
Looks like somebody finally answered that Craigslist ad for a new S.C. State Treasurer …
Converse Chellis, one of South Carolina’s most left-leaning, free-spending “Republican” politicians, will face a GOP primary opponent in 2010, FITS has learned.
Clark Parker, a certified public accountant from Horry County, has decided to challenge the RINO incumbent – an intention he is expected to announce publicly any day now.
Parker is billed by his supporters as “ideologically sound” and an “effective reformer.” Here’s his Facebook page, for those of you who want to learn a little bit more about him.
All we know about Parker (at this point) is that his name isn’t “Converse Chellis,” which obviously goes in the “+” column.
Parker is also reportedly able to count, which would be good, too.
Chellis was elected to the Treasurer’s office two years ago by his buddies in the state legislature after Thomas Ravenel resigned from the post due to his indictment on drug charges.
Since his election, Chellis has pushed all sorts of fiscally liberal state policy in his role as the “swing vote” on the five-member S.C. Budget and Control Board, a legislative-executive amalgamation unique to South Carolina which runs a sizable chunk of the executive branch of state government.
Chellis has consistently voted with his liberal colleagues, S.C. Senate Finance Chairman Hugh Leatherman (RINO-Florence) and House Ways & Means Chairman Danny “Egg-Tooth” Cooper (RINO-Anderson), and against the more fiscally conservative positions recommended by Gov. Mark Sanford and Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom.

Good riddens Chellis. Hopefully the “gang” will follow him out the door one-by-one in quick-step time. MAybe he can step ON a few folks on his way out.

Word on the streets of DC is the Club For Growth supports Chellis, despite Matt Moore’s ambition to make a name for himself. CFG may cutoff pass through funding to Moore if he is involved. Isn’t it weird that Moore hates any kind of government, yet is taking graduate classes at a government school?

Sounds like Chellis’ boys are already scared. I’d be scared too if I had Chellis’ RINO record:
Outrageous state spending increases, pay raises for under-qualified bureaucrats, putting Democrats in charge at the Budget and Control Board, no bid state contracts. That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Good luck defending those anti-Republican positions in a primary…

What’s funny about this is people inside Chellis’ office are saying he has the support of the CFG. Sorry Scott…..Chellis is the farthest thing from conservative that one could possibly find in SC….and with the likes of Leatherman and Cooper in this state, that’s saying something.
As for Matt Moore…..last I heard he is the Executive Director of the Club….which by any measure far and away outranks you, dear Scott, when it comes to both success in life and credibility with conservatives who actually have money. Don’t you have an audition to run to?

Don’t forget that his was one of the RINO votes that put liberal Democrat Beatty on the SC Supreme Court. UNPARDONABLE!! HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ELECTED TO ANY OTHER POLITICAL OFFICE IN SC. In addition, Chellis was a strong proponent of the tax shift ACT 388 of 2006 as well as the unconstitutional alternative funding for school construction. It sounds like Mr. Parker is a great alternative! He’s got my vote!
