Course Correction?

course correction

Americans head to the polls on Tuesday in several states – including three key races that many believe will determine whether or not our nation continues down its current socialist path.

And yes, “our nation” is metaphorically represented in the illustration above as the R.M.S. Titanic.

Get it?

We figured there weren’t enough “Titanic” references in politics, you know?

Anyway, gubernatorial contests in New Jersey and Virginia and a high-profile Congressional race in New York are being widely watched as a potential barometer for the Obama administration as well as the two-party system.

“President Barack Obama believes in the saving grace of the federal government,” MSNBC political analyst Howard Fineman asks. “But do the American people?”

In New York’s 23rd Congressional district, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman is on the brink of a historic upset.  A month ago, Hoffman was polling well behind “Republican” Dede Scozzafava and Democrat Bill Owens, but thanks to the support of Fred and Jeri Thompson, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and others in the conservative wing of the Republican Party, he has surged to the front of the pack.

In fact, over the weekend Scozzafava – who was supported by the GOP establishment – dropped out of the race and endorsed Hoffman’s democratic rival.

In Virginia, a state that Barack Obama narrowly carried in 2008, Republican Bob McDonnell heads into election day with a commanding lead in the polls over Democrat Creigh Deeds.  Meanwhile in New Jersey – a state that hasn’t elected a Republican governor in over a decade – former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie is giving fits to incumbent Jon Corzine.

Obama carried New Jersey by a fifteen-point margin in 2008 and has made five campaign appearances in the state on behalf of Corzine, yet polls show the race deadlocked.

Check back with FITS later tonight for complete election results …

Don’t forget about the judicial race in Pennsylvania! The partisan PA Supreme Court is currently split 3-3, with strong candidates running on both sides of the aisle. Today’s vote may have a huge impact on 3rd branch rulings.

Sara-

Good pt. We’ll also be following several mayoral races and various referendums …

… or is that referenda?

Or reeferenda?

Thompson and Huckabee are not real conservatives when compared to Ron Paul. They are servents of big cooperations not the people. The best way to figure out who the most honist politicians are is to look at who the media shuns and smeers!

It’s reeferenda in Maine, I believe.

By larry on November 3rd, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Expect NJ to remain in Democrat hands. I hear that absentee voter fraud is anticipated to be very high.

By Snead on November 3rd, 2009 at 2:19 pm

“a historic upset”?

The only history that could be made in NY-23 is if a Democrat wins the seat for the first time since Grant was President. Hoffman will obviously caucus with Republicans should he win today.

I would say you should check your sources but you don’t credit anyone except yourself with this info.

By RedBank Bar on November 3rd, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Geez, Larry, you do drink the kool-aid with your fact-free post. “I hear that absentee voter fraud is anticipated to be very high.” Only in your fevered puny brain, Larry.

“Voter fraud” does seem to whip up the wingnuts, without any evidence, of course.

Further, Atlanta might elect their first white female mayor.

Course Correction? With that title, I thought this piece was commemorating the one year anniversary of an historic course correction.

By sid on November 3rd, 2009 at 4:28 pm

It seems it would be rather pointless to say no Democrat has won the seat since Grant, considering district lines and numbers shift fairly regularly. What encompassed District 23 when Grant was in office is likely quite different today, both geographically and demographically. That said, I’m not aware of any candidate who was not from one of the two major parties having won a Congressional seat in New York in the recent past. Therefore, I think it is probably OK to say a Hoffman win would be historic. The manner in which this race has played out seems unique, as well, so that would probably also qualify as being historic. Hoffman may very well caucus with the Republicans, but the fact is he is running as a third-party candidate. If he wins, it will be historic. If Owens wins, it will be somewhat historic, perhaps, but not nearly as much as if Hoffman should win.

By sid on November 3rd, 2009 at 4:30 pm

Crooner,
That would be “first anniversary” of the “course correction” sending this country towards the iceberg of Barry’s agenda, not “one year anniversary.” Just a little pet peeve of mine.

By RedBank Bar on November 3rd, 2009 at 4:31 pm

I repeat, fact-free posting from larry. Repugnants can’t win elections fairly so they must suppress voting and/or cry about stealing elections (as they did in Florida-2000).

By sid on November 3rd, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Typical, RBB. Ignore the news, and focus on repeating pointless attacks. Then again, virtually all of your posts are pointless, so at least you are consistent.

I think its pretty cool how <> Americans who disagree with The Agenda are always called “fevered”. I may change my interwebs arguin’ name to “fevered teabagger”.

By larry on November 3rd, 2009 at 8:28 pm

RBB-

Read the link posted by Sid. It is from the Wall Street Journal–right-leaning but at least validates my point.

By Red Bank Bar on November 3rd, 2009 at 10:22 pm

Sorry, Larry, wrong again. John Fund is simply NOT credible in the least. He just made it up and has admitted it. The story line comes from a column he wrote in 1993 alleging misconduct in Philadelphia.

The WSJ news division used to be credible. John Fund has never been anything other than a rightwing hack.

By sid on November 4th, 2009 at 1:07 am

Where, RBB, did Fund state he made this story up? You can offer an opinion regarding his credibility, but you cannot make a statement of fact without backing it up. Also, in order to refute his allegations, you need to…well…refute his allegations. Are you so far left that you actually believe there are no legitimate scandals involving Acorn? What, precisely, do you refute from the article, and what is your evidence to support such a position? Or do you feel all you need to do is post some hack liberal talking point you’ve been fed, and everyone will just believe you?

By Red Bank Bar on November 4th, 2009 at 10:51 am

Let’s hear it for Wing Nuts everywhere. The one election in the US where propeller beanie Repugnants tried to nationalize the election, they managed to lose a congressional seat that hasn’t been Democratic since U.S. Grant. An unprecedented loss.

Keep it up, angry bubbas, shrink that party.

And BTW, Sidney, give us a cite on any voter fraud conviction for ACORN anywhere in America, at any time. And don’t try to weasel by citing allegations of voter registration fraud. Just because a contract worker signs up Mickey Mouse or you, Sidney, doesn’t mean MM VOTED. I’ll leave the light on , Sidney.

By sid on November 4th, 2009 at 11:51 am

Wow! You really are delusional, RBB. Here’s just one example, from Washington:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/22/voter.fraud/index.html

There are other cases pending, and considering the volume of the allegations, only a fool (or an intentionally blind liberal, which is really the same thing) would think that all that smoke really means…what…water?

Your light, already dim, is growing dimmer every time you post.

By RedBank Bar on November 4th, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Uh, Sidney…. Did your sitter not read my posts and the cnn.com articles to you?

The CNN article YOU posted confirmed my multiple prior posts. VOTER FRAUD is a Repugnant Party and delusional dumb arse like you M Y T H.

I’ll repeat it and type slower for you…..M Y T H.

Mickey Mouse may register but rat boy hasn’t shown up to vote EVER. Your posts confirm either your inability to read, comprehend, or analyze the English language OR confirm you’re just a moron.

ACORN is the victim of voter registration fraud. They’re paying people to register real voters and they’re being victimized. Sidney, can you understand the concept? MICKEY AND MINNIE aren’t showing up to vote.

Geez, it’s exasperating, but somebody’s got to educate wingnuts like you.

By sid on November 5th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

I guess you really are as stupid as your posts indicate. Not because you don’t get this whole thing. I’m pretty sure you do. But the idea that you think others would believe your ridiculous rants from your lefty talking points (other than other lefties, of course) is really quite amusing.

Of course, nobody was ever concerned about fictional names being registered. That’s the red herring you’ve been instructed to parrot. It’s the names of real people who may have died, or moved, or are having their identity stolen that are of concern. I’d try to explain to you the concept of how registration fraud leads to vote fraud, but I know you are either too stupid or too blind to understand or accept it.

The icing on your delusional cake is the concept you state that ACORN is being victimized. Yes, that’s why the organization is going down in flames. Because it is the victim of some crazy conspiracy. You may want to check your pulse, because I don’t believe it is possible for someone with such limited brain activity to sustain a heartbeat. You obviously cannot sustain an intelligent thought.
