Interesting stuff:

1. This was a pretty clunkily written piece by the two elected officials. Maybe they should hire Will Folks to help them write better sentences. Will can write.

2. I kind of generally like the idea of slamming corporate welfare. At the same time, it’s pretty hard to argue with the creation of thousands of jobs — and the possible “multiplier” effect that may take place.

3. The Policy Council has seemed like a pretty lightweight organization to me. Not very impressive “research” or arguments coming out of that group.

4. Having said that (#3), it’s interesting to see right-wing group vs. GOP leadership. Maybe there’s something going on here that could be fairly interesting. I mean, I guess it’s been going on already — Mark Sanford vs. the legislature. But for the Policy Council to pick this battle….I don’t know….could be interesting to see where these sorts of divisions might lead.

I don’t think Evans is there anymore, but your point is still sound. The standard SCPC line seems to be “General Assembly bad, Governor good.”

They didn’t say a word about Sanford charging first-class tickets on the public dime, but lawmakers score 3,800 jobs and they can’t criticize it fast enough. They must be bringing in grassroots cash from people who think their slash-and-burn model is working. But that can’t last long.

They used to. They used to actually have influence and mean something as an organization. But when you have someone like Landess and former Sanford lackeys (Justin Evans) calling shots and researching, they were destined to fail. No way around it. They form their opinions to suit there needs, based on half hearted research and often false research

V – I as well hate to side with the oft costumed senator from Charleston.

This is a HUGE win for South Carolina and due to one thing and one thing only – Boeing finally wised up and is no longer held hostage by the machinist union.

Look at the tea leaves – the machinists union president in Washington is already livid and has said there will be hell to pay by Boeing when the machinists union contract is up in just a couple of years.

Boeing will THEN move MORE production capacity to South Carolna with NO incentives.

Kudos to McConnel, Leatherman, and Sanford FINALLY working together.

Hate to admit it, but these guys are right (even if on accident).
Once the legiislature really understands that lower taxes and an easier route to open and expand business really works, then they can make these programs UNIFORM, not just targeted.
As for the SCPC, they have a great brand and ought to be choosing their battles (and their ammunition) with more care.
