Jeri Thompson Is Doing It To Us Again

We’ve always been head over heels for Jeri Thompson – wife of former GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson.

In fact, we’re starting to wonder if the woman who was once famously called a “trophy wife” by a SCGOP official wouldn’t make a much better presidential candidate than her husband.

Take Ms. Thompson’s recent interview with FOX News host Neil Cavuto, in which she unapologetically endorses the third-party candidacy of conservative Doug Hoffman, who believe it or not is in a position to upset both a liberal Republican (Dede Scozzafava) and a liberaler Democrat (Bill Owens) in a suddenly high-profile race for a vacant U.S. House seat in New York.

Asked about the possibility of conservative Republicans “splitting the vote” with traditional Republicans – thus paving the way for more Democrats to be elected – Thompson rebuked Cavuto’s logic as “a Washington way of looking at things.”

“You’re speaking of whether or not the conservatives here are the spoilers,”  Thompson says. “You know, I hope we are the spoilers.  If we’re going to spoil someone like Dede Scozzafava’s record.  For goodness sakes, she’s anti-life, she’s pro-tax, she’s pro-stimulus … I’m trying to think of what’s good about her.”

At one point in the interview, Thompson inadvertently calls Republicans “Republicant’s.”  Freudian?  We don’t think so.

What’s the best line of the interview, though?

Accused at one point by Cavuto of “torpedoing the party,” Thompson shoots back that “I don’t think this is about party anymore, this is about our country.”
