Hugh Leatherman: Economic “Maestro”
Last week we told you about the latest taxpayer-funded overseas “economic development” trip being taken by S.C. Senators Hugh Leatherman and Yancey McGill – a dynamic duo on the global economic stage if we’ve ever seen one.
Seriously, when it comes to taking their wives with them to tour castles and cathedrals, take ferry boat rides, visit art museums and attend wine tastings in exotic lands – you’re not going to find a more willing pair of politicians.
Just don’t ask them about South Carolina’s record unemployment rates …
Anyway, Leatherman and McGill are currently taking their “show” back on the road, this time to Japan and China, two countries where Leatherman is (amazingly) still considered short.
From Leatherman TV (a.k.a. WPDE TV 15, Florence):
Senator Leatherman says despite the rough global economy, he believes some businesses may build operations here.
“These companies look long-term, particularly over here in the Asian countries. They’re not looking for a quick profit, they’re looking long term. I’m excited about the response we’re getting. I believe we’ll see some of these companies come into our state,” said Senator Hugh Leatherman.
Senator Leatherman will be in Japan until Wednesday.
Then he’ll visit businesses in China.
“Companies look long-term?”
Wow. Leave it to a redneck midget to put the global economy in perspective.
Of course, given his stewardship of the State of South Carolina’s finances, the concept of “looking long-term” probably does strike Leatherman as “foreign.”
Anyway, enjoy those mints on your pillows, boys …

OK so we are recruiting foreigners to South Carolina. Will they hire locals or foreigners?
