The socialist political advocacy group MoveOn.org has released a new video starring Hollywood hottie Heather Graham as “the public option” in the ongoing national “health care” debate.
Not surprisingly, the aim of this clip is to make the “public option” appear as attractive as possible, an endeavor that we must confess is aided “amply” by Graham’s breathtaking cleavage.
Here’s the clip …
“Some in Washington say this is unfair competition,” the ad says, referring to the public option. “But competition is American as apple pie.”
Well, duh … yeah …of course it is. And nobody’s got (or nobody should have) a problem with competition – especially when a portion of it is represented by Heather Graham’s boobs.
Our problem is when government competes with the private sector – in a market that government controls.
That’s not competition, people, that’s a prelude to a government monopoly.
Sort of like public education …

It seems to me that most people I talk to all have complaints about their health care. Something needs to be done. The problem is if its a Democrat plan all Republicans will be against and if its a Republican plan all Dems will be against it.

Government has a monopoly on education? Private schools do not exist? News to me.
Government is going to control the health care market? Gee, I didn’t know that regulating a market equalled controlling it. By that definition, government controls every market there is, since pretty much every product and service is in some way regulated.
Government is so inefficient and wasteful compared to the private sector – and yet private insurance can’t possibly compete with the public option?
Government involvement in health care will be terrible – but I don’t see people calling for an end to Medicare (and its an opt-in program for the states, but none would dare opt out). Customer satisfaction surveys show vets are happier with the VA than the average person is with the medical care they get in the private sector – and both Medicare and the VA deliver care at lower cost than the insurance system, which only spends 70 cents of every dollar on actual medical care.
Seems you’re a little fact-challenged. But in the spirit of bipartisanship let’s find an area of agreement: Heather Graham’s boobs are spectacular.

Please cite your source.
Additionally, most VA patients I know have no choice BUT to receive VA treatment and thus have no standard for which to compare their treatment.
I know Vets who will wait 4 hours at the Dorn Medical Center to get their cerumen disimpacted.
No complaints.

Rondo, I fear you are ill informed, but I am not assuming ill-intended.
There are two facts that should be present in this conversation. First, the goal is to make the public option national while keeping the private options restricted to state-by-state. The second is the 40% tax on “Cadillac” plans when such plans lower threshold is only $2000 above the public option for a family of four.
The point here is this is about creating an uncompetitive market for the private insurers to allow the public option to choke them out of business. On the first hand they will be at a disadvantage in overall cost as not being allowed to be national and on the second hand if they do find a way to offer an option folks might want more option there will be a death tax on it to make it cost even more.
I am not health care. I am against a plan to destroy the entire industry of private insurers that will leave us with what? Can you name a single government controlled organization you look forward to dealing with? IRS? DMV? Jury Duty? Post Office? Etc.
Let the private insurers compete nationally. Raise the threshold on the lower end for “Cadillac” plans or get rid of it all together. Maybe then it might be about competition.
AND . . . tell the truth on the cost. That it is 900 billion over ten years, but they collect taxes for five before even starting. That makes it really 1.8 billion for every ten years. Or how about the other 300 billion they stripped out to hide elsewhere and pass separately? It’s not about being against healthcare. It’s about being against this sneaky and shady attempt to lose even more jorbs and not even really fix the problem.
