Sanford’s Unemployment Circle Jerk
S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford convened an “unemployment round table” on Tuesday to delve into the state’s jobless problem, but the event quickly denigrated into yet another excuse for South Carolina politicians (Sanford included) to wax on about who’s to blame for the state’s economic problems.
The Luv Gov’s “panel discussion” included House Majority Leader Kenny Bingham (RINO-Lexington), State Sen. Greg Ryberg (R-Aiken), Employment Security Commission “leader” Roosevelt Halley (Moron-Columbia) and Board of Economic Advisors Chairman John Rainey (Pompous Windbag-Various Locations).
In other words, all the d-bags who’ve been presiding over the mess South Carolina has made of its finances in recent years were on hand to speak in vague generalities about the problem they created and how “we” had now better do something to fix it.
Isn’t that just like government?
It is in “Republican-controlled” South Carolina, at least, where our leaders create naturally unsustainable programs and encourage them to grow at outrageous levels during the “good times,” and then turn around and bitch about “budget cuts” when the inevitable choking off of economic activity results in reduced revenues to their beloved pet projects and cousin’s nephew’s brother who has some six-figure “administrative” job at the Whatever Whatever Commission on Yet Another Thing Government Shouldn’t Be Doing.
So what do they do?
That’s easy – they maintain (even increase funding for) their pet projects and cousin’s nephew’s brother while simultaneously cutting front-line services and threatening teachers, prison guards and other real public servants with furloughs or pink slips.
Seriously, that’s the “Republican” way in South Carolina, people.
Sad, isn’t it?
Look … here’s some free advice for all these government “circle jerkers” who continue to believe that they know best.
In a word?
“Stop.”
You wanna create jobs? Seriously, just stop.
Stop talking.
Stop promising.
Stop pointing fingers.
Stop spending money you don’t have.
Stop creating so many new programs.
Stop funding so many old programs that don’t work.
Stop holding “round table” forums.
In fact, stop thinking that “economic development” is something you have either the skill or the responsibility to pull off.
Because it’s not.
There is only one thing government should EVER do to “create jobs” … and that’s shrink.

Why was State Sen Ryberg (AHOLE – Aiken) included in this discussion? I guess the total buffoonery of a cheese-head is always welcome?

The only real job-creation machine is those individuals who work hard, advance themselves and make wise decisions about their careers and their businesses.
No circle jerk … um, roundtable discussion … can create jobs, except to employ the catering service that provides a (usually) taxpayer-funded lunch for all the backslappers and gladhanders.

How can shrinking government build jobs? People lose their jobs! People can’t get services. I do not disagree with the bad opinion of Sanford and some of his spawn, but shrinking government is over the top. State agencies are already down to rock bottom with staff, but people still need the services. Lets talk about why some folks want to get rid of services for others. Maybe they just do not care about their fellow human beings.

Sounds like a campaign platform, Sic. I’d vote for that.

Our Editorial Staff takes pride in teaching sic(k) willie. First, we taught him about the moderation option in blogging. Now he is finally learning not to write excessively long paragraphs. Break them up, sic(k) willie.
And always remember to keep your posts short enough that the average voucher clown can read them on a short trip to the loo. That’s their attention span.

I guess you had to be there.
Were you there Will?

Scooter – less government means less taxes, which means more money for people to spend on what they want.
I get sick of this mindset that only government can create jobs or stir up economic activity. All it can do is take away from people with the threat of force.
If you think force is not there, try not paying your taxes and see what happens.

Just look at Sanford’s schedule any given week and that is proof that he DOES NOTHING TO CREATE JOBS for SC. Usually Mondays and Fridays are totally free on his schedule and I am pretty sure he has never worked a weekend in his life.

Um, is “voucher clown” a technical expression? I was actually going to say something nice about the column (title excepted), but I’ll have to know more about “voucher clowns” first.
