Cold!
You gotta love South Carolina … or at least the bumpkins who pass for “influential” in this perpetually backwards state.
Take “Clinch” Heyward, for example, who in addition to serving as head of the S.C. Wildlife Federation is also now apparently a “climate change” expert.
Well, sort of.
In his rush to provide political cover to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (who last week joined Congressional Democrats in support of a massive energy tax hike), Heyward offered the following rationale for committing the support of his organization …
“I was deer hunting last weekend and here it is October and it is 90 degrees,” Heyward told reporters during a conference call.
Wait … what?
This guy is basing the official policy position of his organization based on how hot it was during his last hunting trip?
If that’s the case, then Heyward might be interested in knowing that it was 36 degrees this morning in Columbia, S.C. – with temperatures forecast to dip down near freezing levels again tonight.
Does that mean the S.C. Wildlife Federation now opposes this $4,000 annual “energy tax” on South Carolina families?

If I had a dollar for every time a reporter got snookered by a drawling South Carolinian, I’d be Anne Cox Chambers by now.

Willie, you ain’t caught on yet? Most South Carolinians don’t perceive and process information and make judgments intellectually–they do it more in a “touchy-feely” emotional, personal way. How else could you explain the fact that they elected “Family values” and “Frugal with your tax dollars’ Mark Sanford twice and a “Fiscally conservative” Republican legislature continuously?
