Since S.C. Senator John Courson (RINO-Richland County) was passed over for a cozy bureaucratic post last month, he apparently feels obligated to continue demeaning himself by pretending to be a Republican for at least one more election cycle.
Sad, isn’t it?
Anyway, in keeping with Courson’s “desperate times,” he put out a campaign fundraising letter last week – a letter with one not-so-small problem.
In what appears to be a flagrant violation of state ethics law, Courson sent this letter of solicitation from his taxpayer-funded State Senate office.
Well, actually that’s not the only problem with Courson’s letter.
In asking Republicans to financially support his “sound, conservative fiscal policies,” (cough) Courson claims that South Carolina has “the lowest per capita debt ratio in the United States.”
Of course, that statement is categorically false.
According to the latest data from the U.S. Census, the Palmetto State’s per capita debt is the 17th highest in the nation. South Carolina is also one of only 11 states with a debt that exceeds 10% of our state GDP.
Worse still? Those numbers don’t even include the $20 billion in unfunded liabilities associated with our state retirement system.
More fraudulent, though, is Courson’s ridiculous claim that he is a “strong fiscal conservative” who is working “for fiscal restraint.”
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Aside from the fact that a real fiscal conservative wouldn’t illegally force taxpayers to pick up the tab for his political mail, the truth is that Courson has one of the worst fiscal conservative records in the entire General Assembly – Republican or Democrat.
In addition to casting one of the deciding votes against a fiscally-responsible alternative budget that would have reduced waste and prioritized spending on government’s core responsibilities, Courson voted to maintain the fiscally-indefensible legislative slush fund known as the “competitive grants” program.
And this guy claims to be a taxpayer hero? Whatever …
We don’t care what “taxpayer awards” Sen. Courson says he has won, the truth is he’s a big government RINO to the core.
And apparently a lying, law-breaking one at that …

sic(k) willie says Senator Courson is a “lying, law-breaking” RINO.
Wow! Strong words.
RINO is not a bad thing.
But, “lying, law-breaker” is slander.
Prove it, sic(k) willie?
Prove in court?
Not a chance. In court you’d be toast.
Actually, many of the officials sic(k) willie claims are RINOs are among the few elected officials making any sense these days.
God Bless our RINOs.
And our Funding Editor thinks sic(k) willie will be needing some asbestos underwear. When Marines take fire, they return fire.
Semper Fi, sic(k) willie.
Love, Peace and Firepower from Senator Courson.

FITS, I checked the link you had to state’s GDP per capita as a percentage of the debt per capita. The only problem is the chart is completely bogus on its face. Note, S.C. is “ranked” 17th, but it’s percantage was 10.02%, yet there are not (as you can see on the chart) 16 states with higher percentages. On third glance at the chart I realized the “ranks” were based on total per capita amount of debt rather than on the percentage ratio. I.e. the person who made the chart was so stupid they used rankings based on numbers that were not even pertinent to the “ratio” purpose for which the chart was made. Therefore, I can’t even trust the percentages and do the “rankings” myself since the person who made the chart is such an absolute moron.
Please come up with another source, perhaps one with legitimate numbers???

You are so correct on this one. He went “statehouse rino” a long time ago and never looked back.
How can we get rid of these losers.

Apparently you missed the footnote, “Not printed or mailed at taxpayer expense” Do you have proof otherwise? I don’t think there is anything illegal about using the Senate logo for campaign related materials. I don’t give a crap about John Courson, I’m just sick of your continued unsubstantiated claims against anyone you don’t like.

If there’s ever a contest for least reliable blog content, the continuing errors and factual unsubstantiated claims here will blow the competition out of the water.

sic(k) willie, “…you ignorant slut.” Our Funding Editor just loves that classic line from SNL. She thinks it fits sic(k) willie perfectly.
Come on sic(k) willie. You called Senator Courson a “lying, law-breaking” RINO. Prove it. Never mind the RINO part. That’s just political cr@p.
Is he the Midlands’ elected official you claimed has a Strom problem?
No one in S.C. was every closer or a stronger supporter of Strom. Calling Courson a RINO is like calling Strom a RINO.
When you post like that some think you are politically ignorant. Our Funding Editor knows it just proves you are a political slut.

The problem is that too many SC voters just look for the D or R beside a person’s name before voting. Hell, if Jake Knotts passes for a Republican then anyone can. As George Washington said (paraphrasing) “political parties will be the doom of this nation…as individuals will do what’s best for the party not what’s best for the nation.” The Republican Party of Reagan is long dead. And I cringe at what Dumpy Tumpy has done to his father’s good name. Its not a wonder this state is the dumbest and poorest.
