Barrett On Obama’s Nobel

barrett speaking

In case we haven’t made it abundantly clear, we can’t stand U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett. Having said that, “blind hogs” occasionally do manage to locate acorns from time-to-time, and Barrett hit the nail on the head with his assessment of U.S. President Barack Obama being award the Nobel Peace Prize.

“Congratulations to President Obama on his prize,” Barrett said in an email released from his gubernatorial campaign.  “I’m not sure what the international community loved best; his waffling on Afghanistan, pulling defense missiles out of Eastern Europe, turning his back on freedom fighters in Honduras, coddling Castro, siding with Palestinians against Israel, or almost getting tough on Iran.  The world may love it, but following in the footsteps of Jimmy Carter is not where America needs to go.”

Nice!

So why did “Pretty Boy” Barrett resign from the House Ethics Committee?

By Mike Honcho on October 10th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Something, something, something….

If you can’t be bothered to really do any analysis, why should we?

Nice.

Wouldn’t it have been great to have had the internet back in 1964 to read the responses of Strom Thurmond, Floyd Spence, Albert Watson and their fellow South Carolina conservatives to Dr. Martin Luther King’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize that year?

Now Obama is sure no Dr. King, but I’m sure the responses would have been just the same. Lot’s of people calling him a communist, un-American, those always clever “Amos and Andy” dialect jokes.

I’m so glad, as a Dem, that Thurmond, Spence and Watson left the Democratic party because of its support for the radical idea that black American taxpayers should be allowed to use the same water fountains, toilets, voting booths and schools as whites and founded the modern South Carolina GOP.

Its a great reminder that its easy to see why most SC Republicans dismiss the theory of evolution as the work of Satan too. After all, the SC GOP hasn’t evolved one bit since it was birthed by its racists daddies back in the 60’s.

I’m impressed you actually admitted Barrett was on point about anything…well done.

Don’t know Barrett but he certainly has Obama pegged. Obama getting the Nobel is a joke. All he has done for the short time he has been in office is “talk softly and carry a little stick”.

Thanks Will,
We’ll chalk one up to “the blind hog”.

WOW…..Gresham really knows how to use a Power POINT Slide in expressing SOLUTIONS to this classroom…!!!

Both the computer and huge Monitor are ….WHAT …in this picture..!!

We’re sure Barrett KNOWS something; BUT …WHAT ?????

yes, it is a surprise, but let’s not forget that the nobel is not a lifetime achievement award.

– Myth: The prize is awarded to recognize efforts for peace, human rights and democracy only after they have proven successful.

More often, the prize is awarded to encourage those who receive it to see the effort through, sometimes at critical moments.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/09/nobel-prize-to-obama-defe_n_316 098.html

some of the recipients mentioned above had not yet completed their goals, but were, indeed, on their way.

given the current climate, it is fair to say that obama has done much to inspire the american people and those internationally as well…there is a sense of hope that was lacking and there is value to this.

“Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?” -browning

obama has, at the least, hit a “reset” button of sorts, provided a wake-up call that we need not settle, and, that one person can make a difference.

the nobel is simply an affirmation of this and it should inspire america and its “powers that govern” to strive to be better, to do better.

given that one cannot obtain a divorce in less than a year in the state of south carolina, it would behoove mr. barrett to be as accommodating to the president in his attempt to right the abysmal wrongs of the last 8 years by the “grand” old party.

Easy question Phil,
Barrett know how to bail out AIG and Citicorp!! He won’t live this down, but at least he’s leaving the Congress!

Look at it this way, Obama is the perfect candidate! He is aimed at weakening America to the level of a Banana Republic. He’s a pure socialist. He is a fervent liar. What a man for peace!

By Skidmarks on October 12th, 2009 at 11:33 am

So, Barrett is running for Governor of South Carolina by running against President Obama?

Recall that Barrett said the House disapproval resolution against Wilson – which Barrett passed on – was the President’s fault because Barrett wrote the President a letter asking him to block the House vote!

Barrett might have a winning strategy here since it has been successful in SC before. Fortunately, Barrett won’t be able to pull it off. I mean “turning his back on freedom fighters in Honduras,” which side is he talking about? Well, that happens when you get your facts from DeMint.

By Pat Hendrix on October 12th, 2009 at 11:41 am

But for all the stupidity in this email, this has to be my favorite: “turning his back on freedom fighters in Honduras” Now that’s just rich. Barrett claiming the military coup leaders are freedom fighters while they suspend freedom of press, freedom of assembly and dismantle the constitution is priceless. Perhaps he defines the word “freedom” as broadly as his notion of “fidelity.”

By Patriot on October 12th, 2009 at 12:22 pm

Barret is a talker, that’s it. He voted for the bailout, then talks against it, he has done nothing for the individual human citizen. He loves big business.

By Reginald on October 12th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

And while you’re fact checking Barrett’s ramblings:
“waffling” on Afghanistan equates to a committment of 30,000+ additional troops made less than 2 months after Obama took office?
“pulling defense missles from eastern Europe” ? Does he mean the redployment of the missle shield to where it might actually be able to defend against the Iranian capabilities?
“coddling Castro” by extending the decades old embargo?

Barrett is playing the tried and true fear mongering sound bites that play to the republican base. And he knows that faithful mouthpieces will simply pick it up and repeat it without any critical analysis of his nonsense.

By Crooner on October 12th, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Yeah, I got this email from his campaign. It inspired me to go through the “unsubscribe” process.

I guess the fact that I have, from time to time, financially supported worthy Republican candidates makes every mouth-breathin’, knuckle-dragging Republican campaign manager add me to the email list.

This just in: DeMint’s running for re-election to protect our “freedoms.” How’s he gonna know how to vote now that Bush is gone?

By T4 on October 14th, 2009 at 3:00 am

Is anyone else tired of going to Barret’s office, and having to hear apologetics and excuses as to why Barret is a phantom representative? If I have to talk to one more twenty-something, upper middle class, prima donna offering me sweet tea, I’m gonna stick some of “T-Rav’s” boys on ‘em! Thank God for the Charleston Mafia!
