What’s In “Obamacare?” You’ll Never Know …
U.S. President Barack Obama’s under-the-radar push to secretly re-insert a “public option” component into the latest socialized medicine scheme is reigniting an important debate in Washington, D.C. – one that has nothing to do with health care.
It’s all about transparency – and not just in a public sense, either.
With trillions of debt dollars flowing out of Washington, D.C., you would think that the people approving this unprecedented barrage of government spending would have some idea of where it was all going.
You’d think that … but you’d be wrong.
For example, you’ll recall that when Congress passed its 1,100-page “stimulus” earlier this year, only one elected official in Washington bothered to attempt reading the text of the massive boondoggle. Obviously, he didn’t make it through – because Congress voted on the proposal just 13 hours after its final version was made available to lawmakers.
And that was one of the highest profile pieces of legislation ever to come out of Washington …
Among the last-second changes to this so-called “stimulus?” The raiding of $18 billion that was supposed to go to a small business stabilization fund so that pork could be spread in Democratic districts on projects like Senate Leader Harry Reid’s “mob museum.”
How fitting, right?
We’ve written on this subject in the past, but this tendency to shove through unexamined – and intentionally unexaminable – legislation is not “democracy.”
It’s the political equivalent of gangsters keeping their getaway cars running after stealing from the public trust, literally and figuratively.
That’s why we’ve always supported the efforts of a website called ReadTheBill.org, which is seeking to implement a “72-hour rule” that would require most legislation to be posted online for 72 hours prior to Congress commencing debate.
This sort of 72-hour “review period” is even more critical to the health of our democratic process when you consider the “hook or crook” conduct of the current administration and its Congressional allies. For example, last month, U.S. Sen. Max Baucus (D-Montana) refused to put the language of its $900 billion socialized medicine proposal on the internet for the public to review. Obviously, we now know why …
For more on this subject, there’s a great post on GetLiberty.org that has a ton of information on the importance of the 72-hour rule.
Also, it’s worth noting that a number of fiscally conservative S.C. lawmakers are pushing for the same 72-hour-rule here in South Carolina.

Obama pledged transparency in government. Yawn… Yet another Obama lie…

There is a rule already in place to post bills for 72 hours. It was basically tossed aside in 2001 and ignored for the past few years. The healthcare bill, however, will be posted for 72 hours. The first drafts are already posted.
The point is valid, we need more access, but it doesn’t apply here.

So who is lying, Fitsnews and Larry or Pat?

So much spin and BS is spewing forth from the White House and MSM concerning healthcare, people probably don’t know if they’re stating fact, fiction, or mere 1/2 truths.
If the above is fact, could Obama “re-insert” chiropractic care back into my government insurance plan I rely on, considering I and many others can’t find a job shoveling proverbial sh*t or digging proverbial ditches up here in Chesterfield County?

FITS, YOU ARE THE BIGGEST LIAR.
The GOP controlled the US Senate and the House from 1994 until 2006.
If you “always” supported the 72-hour rule let’s see all of your posts in favor of it for the decade plus the Repubs ran the US Capitol. SHOW ME ONE!!!!!
Obama’s made plenty of mistakes and I have my issues with him. But as long he has people like you who think the public doesn’t remember all the years the GOP had to “fix” all these things and instead just sopped up lobbyists $$$$ while butt-f*ck!ng the American public he’ll come out on top.

Madcock-
We became aware of the 72-hour rule’s existence in March, and we wrote an editorial endorsing it here.

As for the insinuation that we’re hard on Obama where we were kind to his GOP predecessors, you are obviously new to this site.
Here is our recap of the Bush presidency, for example …

And here is our recap of the McCain candidacy …

Now, STFU.

And yet Madcock you said nothing about Obama’s “promise/pledge” etc of “transparency” and placing all legislation online. But simply said “well the other guys didnt do it” – Im not so sure the “other guys” made that promise.
It seems Mr. President is falling short of all of his promises. Hmmm I think another round of “I didnt vote for him” bumper stickers is in the wind.

Pat,
If the concerns about transparency/posting of bills does not apply to the healthcare debate, what do you make of:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/Congressional-leaders-fight-against-posting-bills-online-8340658-63557217.html
Of course, there are other articles/postings that refer to the threat of no public posting of whatever healthcare vehicle Barry tries to force down our throats. So, are you lying, uninformed, or just plain stupid? We already know your an admitted ass of monumental proportions, so perhaps that’s the mechanism you are using here. If so, well done, sir. Well done.

Obama is confusing his rhetoric with his promised transparency. People want to see documents, not hear his rhetoric. His speech is peppered with condescending tones and arrogance. Even his press secretary’s comments are a chore to listen to.
At least George W. was comical and provided some amusement.
