Sanford To Host Unemployment “Roundtable”
S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford will host an “unemployment roundtable (sic)” later this month, according to a press release issued Friday from his office.
Aside from the fact that “round” and “table” are two separate words (grrrrr!), what exactly is Sanford hoping to accomplish with this latest distraction? It’s even worse when you consider that the seats at Sanford’s table (which damn well better be round) are going to be filled by the same lazy asses that have been holding this state back for decades on the economic development front.
“Members of the General Assembly, key leaders from the business community, relevant officials from across state government, members of the media and interested citizens” are being invited to attend the round table, Sanford’s office says.
So in other words, four-fifths of the audience (i.e. everybody but the “interested citizens”) has either been actively screwing the pooch or completely asleep at the switch on this issue, which is no doubt why South Carolina’s unemployment rate is ALWAYS among the nation’s highest, irrespective of the national or global economic climate.
Here’s a hint, politicians. Stop holding all these ridiculous meetings about what government is going to do to stimulate jobs …
Creating jobs is not government’s job, it’s the market’s job.
Just shut up, give us more of our money back and get the hell out of the way.

round table?
–noun
1. a number of persons gathered together for conference, discussion of some subject, etc., and often seated at a round table.
2. the discussion, topic of discussion, or the conference itself.
3. (initial capital letter) Arthurian Romance.
a. the table, made round to avoid quarrels as to precedence, about which King Arthur and his knights sat.
b. King Arthur and his knights.
Also, roundtable (for defs. 1, 2).

He has gone back to work. Good for him. Good for us.
Things are not ideal…but it is the best we can hope for.

“Round” and “table” are, as you say, two separate words. So are “earth” and “quake,” as well as “by” and “pass,” but when you put them together, you get earthquake and bypass. Literate people call these compound words. Compound words that might be familiar to you, Will, are “asshole” and “dickhead.”
Oh, and the American Heritage Dictionary, 3rd edition, lists roundtable as one word: “A conference or discussion involving several participants.” It’s two words when you’re talking about King Arthur.
Asshole.

OMG, laughing like crazy about the post from Micael Weissenfeld. It’s Okay SIC. I’m just amazed that people are still standing by Marky Marc.
I’ve got a compound word for you Michael, douchebag, as in our State Governor! :)

Sanford had to do something to look relevant. The Chamber of Commerce has held a number of meetings over the last few months and hasn’t invited him to a single one. Certainly not the one where they discussed how he is contributing nothing but distraction to the economic development cause in South Carolina. I doubt this will change his standing, or lack thereof, in the business community. I wonder which members of the Assembly he will invite? The few that haven’t called for his resignation.

Fits, I gots to agree with Mr. Weissenfeld here, you did indeed make an ass of yourself on this one. But perhaps even more shocking is that you’ve neglected to fit into this story the most well known compound word of them all, “Soulmate”. No matter, here’s to you brave knight…

Sir Lancelot our governor is not. Little late in the game, isn’t it Sanford?

So after 7 years, the Gov is finally concerned with unemployment. Is the Commerce Secretary going to be a part of the roundtable (round table?)or is his agency planning another South American soiree for the Gov?
How can anyone truly feel that Sanford will ever be taken seriously by anyone wanting to locate a business in SC? Whenever total buffoonery is valued as a prerequisite for leadership, Sanford will be the standard bearer. Or is it standardbearer?

“I wonder which members of the Assembly he will invite…”
I wonder who will show up and support another distraction by our delusional gov?

Fascinating article – except for the part about the grammar lesson and the obsession with round.
I might actually be with you on this. But other than attacking the Governor, which you do like it was your job, who in this nameless, faceless collective of lazy asses is responsible?
I know, you’ll call out your usual list of punching bags like Harrell and Leatherman…yawn.
Who are these business leaders who have been slack in their role? Come on, do that naming names thing that you keep talking about. And since you have all of the answers, who can fix it? Cause it needs to be fixed. Don’t half-ass a potentially useful story. Or have you caught the lazy ass?

The great irony is that his trouble started not because he pulled his sword out of a stone, but because he kept sticking back in.
