GOP Bottom Feeder Contemplates AG Bid
One of the South Carolina Republican Party’s most ethically-bankrupt bottom feeders is contemplating a bid for Attorney General, sources tell FITS.
Charleston shyster and disgraced former judge Larry Richter – who lost his seat on the bench after he was accused of offering cocaine to a female law student – has reportedly been talking up his candidacy within the Lowcountry legal community.
Specifically, we’re hearing reports that Richter plans to drop as much as $1 million into television ads in support of his candidacy.
Richter previously ran for Attorney General in 2002, but was forced to abandon his bid when his cocaine allegations resurfaced.
Richter’s name last hit the public radar back in February, when he was accused of selling out victims of sexual abuse by colluding with a Circuit Court judge to pocket $2.5 million in legal fees and insulate the Charleston Diocese from prosecution.
Classy guy, right?
Frankly, we hope Richter runs. We’re overdue for a protracted public evisceration.
Also running for Attorney General are former prosecutor Robert Bolchoz, attorney Leighton Lord and Alan Wilson, whose claim to fame is being the son of “you lie” Congressman Addison Graves “Joe” Wilson.

I was at the Clemson TCU game on Saturday 9/26 tailgating (with sibling) at FlipFlops, aka Explorers, aka FRAT ROW, and there was an exceptional overabundance of Alan Wilson for AG stickers pasted on many a frat star’s lapel and many a drunk girl’s strapless dresses. I hope they can all make it to the polls on election day.

FITS, you say “accused”. I take that to mean there was never a conviction. That right?
By Somebody on September 30th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
He didn’t dropout, dipsalad. He ran and made it into a runoff with McMaster. Maybe if you didn’t have your head so much up the butt of your now-betrayed buddy Sanfraud duing the ‘02 primaries, you would have known that.

Just when I was about to go over to the Dark Side another opportunity pops out of the septic tank. Rather than opposing Little Cisco Bauer I was planning on establishing a PAC to push for his election as Governor. As founder and only member, our PAC would go after Democrats, Independents, Conservatives, Kooks and Shitheads. With a little organization DICKS will be out in front of the movement. Along with some hard work DICKS should be able to stick it to one and all who oppose Little Cisco. DICKS will warn everyone that stands in their way not to turn around or they will get it the end. Now after all this planning along comes a bigger peckerhead, Richter. So, would DICKS be better off supporting the little peckerhead or the bigger peckerhead?

Next question: was Richter the attorney for someone you had a falling out with? There are no personal motives in this posting, are there?

Again FITS, you continue to give no credit to the only candidate in this race who has in recent times actually prosecuted bad guys and sent them to prison:
http://www.goupstate.com/article/20070613/NEWS/706130330
“Former prosecutor” Bolchoz hasn’t been in this role since the mid-90s. “Attorney” Leighton Lord seems like a good enough guy, but has never prosecuted a criminal case as far as I can tell. And Richter…well I don’t even need to comment on how sketchy that guy is.
Alan Wilson is the best candidate in this race and you know it. Continuing to marginalize him by dismissively associating him with Joe is not going to make him go away. so go ahead and warm yourself up to the idea of him being the next AG.

I’m going to have to echo people from Louisiana when David Duke ran for office. If it comes down to Alan Wilson and Larry Richter, vote for the crook, not the racist. Wilson’s support for his lying neo-Confederate nincompoop father renders him unsuitable to serve.
By Red Bank Bar on September 30th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
Wilson is a lightweight, just like his non-biological dad. Ask him how many times it took him to pass the relatively easy SC Bar?
Ask him how many first chair trials he’s had? If the over-under is five, my bet’s on the under.
By CNSYD on September 30th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Interloper, and you would have applauded him if he had trashed his father? Would you publicly trash your father?
By Nitpicking Factchecker on September 30th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Fits, you are great but you need to consult with an old geezer with better institutional memory. McMaster won AG in 2002 over Steve Benjamin and was unopposed in 2006. I believe Richter ran for AG in 2004 vs. Charlie Condon, Steve Hamm, and David Eckstrom with Charlie beating the Pootster in the GE.
I may be mistaken but Richter’s indiscretions were barely publicized, not registering much at all with the voters on the, ahem, Richter Scale.
Still, unless the GOP only fields a band of nonentities for this position, Larry is toast.

Red Bank Bar wins the door prize. Wilson overstates his qualifications as a prosecutor. On major civil litigation, zero. Capital litigation (death penalty appeals), none. Direct appeals & PCRs, none. Management of staff, none. Here’s a thought: when his latest gig at the AG’s office was up (grant not renewed) he was not informed until the last minute — literally — and was not retained on contract or moved to another position. The AG’s office didn’t create a position for him either. All three options have been used in the past for attorneys and nonattorneys. Draw your own conclusion from that.
Don’t sell Bolchoz short…he was a strong leader as Chief of Staff and ran a tight ship under Condon. If he indeed runs he will be the only candidate that can start work from day one, no learning curve necessary.

Lord worries me because how can a guy who worked and was “made” by a big law firm actually serve as AG without some sort of bias towards the people who made him. Lord will be weak on the campaign trail as well. Mingling with the little people just isn’t his thing.
Larry the Lounge Lizard….please. We went down that road 8 years ago.
Alan Wilson at least is a career prosecutor, has served his country with honor in the military and despite the cheap shots from the peanut gallery, comes from a family that has served its country at various levels.
I will address Red Bank Bar directly. Have you passed the SC Bar exam? If so, great for you. Also, Joe Wilson raised Alan as his own son after Alan’s father died. How in the Hell are you so twisted that you think that is a something to throw a cheap shot about? Criticizing Joe for his outburst is one thing, but somehow making a cheap shot because he adopted Alan? Come on, that’s weak. And, it might even be against the lawyer oath on civility when I think on it.
By Calhoun Fawls on October 1st, 2009 at 12:30 am
Interloper, give a specific case in which Alan Wilson has been racist. Are you Jimmy Carter?
By Soft Sigh From Hell on October 1st, 2009 at 7:29 am
“the lawyer oath on civility”
I stand astounded!
I also thereby assume that few of us are lawyers.
By funny on October 1st, 2009 at 8:02 am
I agree with others – Alan Wilson is the best candidate – you cant marginalize people because of what their parents do (cough cough Chelsey Clinton)…
Alan has prosecuted a significant number of cases in SC while working at the AG’s office. He is a great family man and a good friend to those in need.
By AI on October 1st, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Interloper,
Alan is his own man, but who’s going to throw their own father under the bus? Do you want him to dance on Joe’s grave? What are you expecting?
Red Bank,
You obviously have a large ax to grind, so don’t let me get in your way. Having tried cases with Alan, I know he’s both talented and hard working. I don’t carry around the guy’s resume, but you throw around that number of first chair trials like you have any knowledge of how many he’s had.
By RedBank Bar on October 1st, 2009 at 3:04 pm
“A significant number”? Let’s put some money on this. I say THREE first chair trials.
THREE! Only in some alternative universe is THREE a “significant” number.
Bottom line, an inexperienced, lightweight, decent fellow. Only in South Carolina could such a Republican draw such “glowing” endorsements.
By AI on October 1st, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Red Bank,
Your persistence in lowering the number doesn’t make it true. And why do you care whether Joe is Alan’s biological father? How petty can you get?
By Toughgirl on October 5th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
To Ma’am and RedBank,
First, Alan’s position was not terminated. He was not asked to leave. The State Grand Jury/ Prosecution sections are not funded by a grant. He decided to leave of his own accord. In fact, he left on very good terms. Second, you say he has no staff management skills. He led troops into battle… Oh, I guess that does not count? Next, you claim Alan first chaired less than 3 trials? He first chaired seven trials at the Attorney General’s Office. He first chaired twelve general sessions trials in Lexington. This is not counting his magistrate court trials.
The “biological son” comment is not only distasteful but also
nonsensical. Shame on you for whatever you were insinuating.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but get your facts, straight please. No sense in circulating unfounded and vicious lies.
By TF on October 18th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
I don’t mean to scoop you, FITS, but I heard that David Pascoe has filed as a Democrat in this race. He is the clear best choice. Unfortunately, he has a (D) next to his name so he’ll start out as a ten point underdog. Hopefully, our voters will look beyond party. If they do, we will have a topnotch AG.
By TF on October 19th, 2009 at 11:45 am
In fact, if Lord makes out of the Republican primary, and it’s Lord v. Pascoe, it’ll be win-win for this State. Both are intelligent and charismatic. That would really be refreshing for this State. I don’t know about y’all, but I am sick of boob politicians and Free Times articles titled “Our Dumb State.”
By R on February 10th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
Good God, no wonder South Carolina is the dumbest most backwards state in the union. Look at our “leaders”, they are the most corrupt, dirty, and dumbest people on earth. Voters REALLY need to look at who they’re voting for besides the D or R besides someone’s name. How we’ve fallen. From George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, men like Robert E. Lee to crooks like Richter and the ultimate moron Tumpy Campbell. It must be all that inbreeding amongst members of these uppity all white clubs that continues to dumb down each successive generation of politicians.
